"Velma is gay" gets on my nerves for the same reason "Rainbow Dash is gay" gets on my nerves. Short hair and being bookish (in Rainbow Dash's case, athletic) do not a lesbian make. Neither of those characters show interest in ANYBODY. They could be any orientation. And ultimately what does it matter? Who are you gonna ship Velma with, Daphne? Daphne has Fred and she's boring anyway.

For that matter, Gren isn't gay, a lifetime of trauma just made him asexual.

According to Wikipedia, the creators thought she was towards the other side of the Kinsey scale too, but there weren't any practical applications. And then she and Shaggy started dating but it was in secret because Shaggy was afraid of Scooby's reaction and it was a huge mess.

ANYWAY. She can be gay in the same way Dumbledore was gay. It's just another aspect of her character that adds context to the things she does.

For the record, my mom didn't let me watch Scooby Doo when I was growing up. I had to watch it at my friends' houses.

Well, I'm not going to derail this thread with all the reasons you're wrong, but know that I have a rant inside of me and it is absurd how much thought I've put into it.

RE:Rose Man, Rose is the best character! She's easily the smartest of any of the kids, she's snarky and adorable and super funny, and she didn't resign herself to the whole predestination thing! Not to mention she's a stone cold badass. And the puppet was an OMNISCIENT MANIPULATIVE BASTARD! Not too hard to be fooled by.

Rose only got played by Scratch because he timed it right when she was most vulnerable, immediately after she learned her mother was murdered. She was hardly in an analytical mood.

Look, we all know Rose is fabulous, Bocaj is just being ridiculous as always.

How did Dumbledore being gay add context to his actions? I don't know why we insist that characters' orientations somehow affect how they act.

And once again, Velma being gay would only make me disappointed because that'd mean her unique traits would be nothing but results of stereotyping.

Personally, it would make no difference to me if Dumbledore and Grindlewald were lovers or just really close friends (or "bros") or even if Dumbledore just had a crush on him that grindlewald took advantage of. The point is that they were close and Dumbledore did stupid things in his youth because of Grindlewald. Right?

Of course.

It painted his interactions with Grindelward (am I saying that right?) in a different light. It lent a lot of credibility to the idea that they were lovers. Other than that, nothing.

I really wish I could argue with you about why Velma is awesome no matter her sexuality, but

All I knew growing up was that the animation was pretty terrible, Daphne had the same name as my cat, and Velma was smart and pretty and got shit done.
