Link.

So, I'm not certain that dedicating a button to shouting is tropable, as the effect on gameplay varies wildly. And if we want to keep it it really needs a more intuitive name.

Edit: Taunt Button covers ambient actions, so we can't rework it to be about that.

Eh, it's a clear description and a good five examples. Seems tropable; I suspect more examples can come.

If we want to refer to any button that seems to only trigger a yell or other sound-effect, not merely calling a name, maybe we can rename it to Press X To Holler.

EDIT: Maybe Holler Button.

Again, the yelling doesn't have a consistent effect. One of the examples is the inventory button, for god's sake.

And we already have Taunt Button for a button that produces only atmospheric effects.

I'm reminded of the button from Pikmin that whistles and calls all the pikmin to you.

Dunno if it's really tropeable by itself.

I was expecting it to be a page on the flash parody game.

I vote keep the trope. Maybe add a redirect, something like Push A For Ambient Action?

It's not about atmospheric actions. That's covered by Taunt Button. It's about buttons that trigger sound clips.

Eh, much as I feel it's silly, it is a real trope. Just needs a better name. I'd be onboard Press X To Holler.

Best I can figure, this is a subtrope to Taunt Button, and I'm not sure it's different enough to warrant a split.

Perhaps you could expand it to examples of making some kind of noise with a button (And not just "talking") even if it does serve a purpose, but I wonder if there's enough examples? (Whistling in Pikmin and Shadow Of The Colossus, the various chants in {{Oddworld.}}) Or if that's different enough to be its own trope.

I'm not sure that we need this one, but if we keep it, please, keep this title too, it's silly in a good way.

Ugh, I enjoy witty titles if they're actually meaningful. This one is just plain dumb, in the Face Palm style. Kill it please, or at least give it a better name.

I prefer "shout" to "holler". Vote rename to Press X To Shout.

I'm for Press X To Speak, though Press X To Shout is good, too.

Or Press X To Call, since most of the examples are about using the button to call someone by crying out their name.

Oh, and it overlaps heavily with Taunt Button. It is noted in "Press X To Jason" that pressing X to do that rarely has any other in-game effect — it usually is a Taunt Button, only it's not quite a taunt.

This is a Video Game trope where the game provides a button or command that serves no tangible gameplay function, but is included for atmosphere or effect.
Now that I bothered to look at the page.... yeah. Forget overlap—this is Taunt Button.

Taunt Button has a bit of an unintuitive name in that the name is rather narrow whereas the trope is rather broad. Maybe merge them as Press X To Taunt?

Can we get a page action crowner? Rename vs Merge with Taunt Button.

I was actually for Press X To Jason as a title, because it was stupid, but then

I was expecting it to be a page on the flash parody game.

If there's a game by this name, the title should be kept for the game.

Of course, if this can't be differentiated from Taunt Button, there's no point keeping it at all. And I personally don't see a trope in "press button to make voice, may or may not actually have gameplay effect".
