There's no Ls in Japanese language, so that's why alola is arora.

Do they not even have an "L" sound?

[up]Nope. It's why Japanese Ranguage is such a common stereotype.

The Japanese sound that's represented in romaji as an R is a sound that isn't really used at all in English, and can most simply be explained as a combination of English R and L sounds. Because of this, native Japanese speakers tend to have a hard time telling the difference between R and L sounds in English speech. And native English speakers tend to hear the Japanese sound as either a strange R or a strange L depending on the word and how someone said it.

Combine that with the fact that Japanese people tend to be pretty bad at correctly spelling and double checking English words and names (for example, the Japanese version of Sun/Moon misspelled UB02 EXPANSION as UB02 EXPANSIONE at one point), and there's a lot of the cases of words or character names getting spelled with the wrong letter. So basically, they wanted to write the romanized region names, didn't double-check on what アローラ is supposed to be, so they just guessed it was Arora.

It's somewhere in-between an L and R, with a bit of W thrown in.

So i need a bit of a History lesson.

Regarding the Mythicals, I want to how many times has a generation ensure that all the mythical pokemon up to that point has been available at least once.

  • For example: Gen 6 had the Delta Episode and 20th Anniversary distributions as well as distributions for Keldio, Victini, Darkrai, Celebi and Shaymin before, on top of the Movie distributions for Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion.
  • As another example: There Gen 3 had Celebi being available thought a bonus disc, Mew having a Japanese only event, and Deoxys and Jirachi having several distributions

So Mega Metagross is being suspect tested in SM OU. I think it's going to get banned.

You're next Greninja.

Can't say I'm surprised. metagross is the only mega that fits the known criteria

  • Available at the Beginning (due to Beldum near the observatory)
  • Steel-type, best STAB for countering fairies
  • Psychic-type which adds to resting Tapu Lele's other type (speaking of which, as much as I don't want it happen, I think that pokemon will likely be next to get suspected)
  • and is pretty much the Landorus of the meta. Versitility, Earthquake, goes with everything, blah blah blah.
  • Add in the fact that only one Pokemon can mega evolve means that all of the above gives Metagross a high chance to be used unless you're using Stall or want to take advantage of Mawile's Offensive capabilities (in which case it goes to the Version exclusives, funnily enough)

Don't see how this is relevant to the suspect.

But Mega Metagross fits Garnet so well!

It has the giant fist things, and is a Psychic type, and is a fusion of two smaller, weaker pokemon, and even does the Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs thing that she does.

Besides, it's not like it's broken or over-centralizing. It has counters and checks.

[up][up] I find it relevant, Because GF made the only in-game mega stones to be for pokemon already in the regional pokedex, that means that there are 3 Steel-type pokemon readily available for use within the meta game from the beginning.

  • Lucario: Riolu is found in Poni island, It got quickedbanned however.
  • Siczor: Which is rather hard to get (trade+item evolution) and is statically weaker than Metagross, though the bug type allows it an advantage and I hard that it was enough for it be used for counterplay. Scyther is found on Poni and is also a common Pelago pokemon after the E4
  • Metagross itself: Beldum is already found near the observatory in Ula'Ula, as I previously mentioned.

In addition to the other Steel-type megas that I know are

  • Mawile: Had to wait for an online tournament at earliest for that so Metagross had a head start for Complacent Gaming Syndrome to set in.
  • Aggron: The mega stone is still unavailable in Sun/Moon AFAIK

Why is the steel-type important. Because it has an advantage over the Fairy-type, specially, Alola's Guardian deities.note . Of the 3 Alolan Steel-type Megas, Metagross by virtue of being a psuedo-legendary has the highest stats and has the most Attack (145 base) of them, only Mawile can surpass that and only because of Huge Power.

but I digress, point is, that metagross was among the first megas to be available for the metagame, which meant that it filtered out other contenders early and had the most time for players to theorymon to adapt to the shifts.

Tapu Koko isn't weak to Steel-type too as it's an Electric-type.

It still dies to Tough Claw Meteor Mash thanks to mediocre bulk, I think.

Mega Metagross' Tough Claws boosted attacks + synergy with Tapus (Electric Terrain Thunder Punch and Psychic Terrain Zen Headbutt) + versatility (Hammer Arm, Earthquake, the aforementioned Thunder Punch and Zen Headbutt, Ice Punch, Bullet Punch, even Stealth Rock) + can be able to hax with Meteor Mash attack boosts (which is also boosted by Tough Claws) makes me think it's too much.

It's got good coverage, but not brokenly high attack and no set up moves or recovery.

Plus its speed is good, but not great. It's outsped by a fair bit and doesn't have very significant special bulk, meaning most special attackers can 2hko it at least.

Talking about Megagross?

I don't feel it should be banned. It's popular for sure but that's due moreso to the dominant threats rather than being too good itself.

#156425: Apr 29th 2017 at 6:24:15 AM

I also don't think Mega Metagross should be banned either. That again, it might happen given the fact that Steel-type Pokemon (such as Aegislash from OU and Jirachi from Doubles) tend to receive the banhammer treatment. I'm not going to mention Magearna because Soul-Heart is absurd in doubles.
