That wasn't a red herring, that was just bad teammbuilding.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Charizard and Lopunny (and Gardevoir) just don't go together. And Altaria. What was that guy thinking? You want some Mega mindgames, run Tyranitar and Garchomp and Scizor or something.

Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Do normal Gardevoir run Hyper Voice?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Tyranitar and Scizor are in the "Don't Use These Ever" Rank while Mega Garchomp isn't even listed, but I'm not entirely sure why since admittedly my knowledge of the tier is not the best.
No.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?We now need a Red Herring mon.
Secret SignatureOh, I meant in Singles. Wow, the Doubles viability rankings are fucked up.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Magicarp comes close.
But for Megas; it definitely depends on the Mega and the use. I don't think it's strictly necessary to have one. If you're looking for pure brute Force, I imagine in many cases you can get the same or better with a Stat boosting item on the same or even a completely different Pokemon.
But Megas can give Speed /and/ Attack in exchange for just sacrificing their item. Many also give utility with a great ability. I am hoping to snag a Charizard Y in OR, solely for its drought ability.
Also, on Mewtwo; Fighting/Psychic has the same amount of resists and weaknesses as pure Psychic. It changes Bug and Dark for Flying and Fairy in terms of weakness and trades resistance to Psychic for Rock. I'm not a Smogon player, but one set doesn't seem apriori better. Rock is a common physical attack and ever present with Stealth Rocks where Psychic is just common in general. Over all, I think the ability to control weakness with a second STAB is a nice trade.

Mé féin ag daṁsa faoin ngealaċ seanrince gan ċeol leis ach ceol cuisle. DS FC: 4141-3472-4041, feel free to add me.I had the same idea. I also thought it should be super effective against it.
Since, it's sort of a Science vs. Magic type deal, and magic usually loses to science.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI felt that Steel should have lost its resistance to Psychic instead of its resistance to either Ghost or Dark.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Well, it not resisting Ghost makes sense, since ghosts are intangible and stuff.
It not resisting Dark makes a bit less sense, since most of its attacks are biting and sneak attacks, which don't really work against armored stuff.
So yeah, I agree it should be neutrally affected by Psychic.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elsePart of the reason Steel was made was to Nerf Psychic-types. Removing that resistance would undo that, potentially making it super powerful.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? Not like Knock Off wasn't annoying enough.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.If Steel loses its resistance to Psychic, there wouldn't be a typing which exists which would quad-resist Psychic.
Thanks.

"Strategy? Spacing? I just keep punching until I hit something." - Sol BadguyWell, there isn't really a type that has something immune to it that's overpowered.
*its

what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseFairy, arguably.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Nothing is immune to Fairy.
I meant immune to it, not immune to something else.
Ghost, Dragon, Normal, Electric, Psychic, and Ground are not overpowered.

what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseDragon, then. Considering Fairy was created pretty much just to nerf them. Gone Horribly Right much?

Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Psychic types will NEVER be as powerful as they were in Gen I. The reason they were so broken was due to the lack of distinguishing between Special Attack and Special defense, bad programming on Ghost types offensive abilities, and extremely weak bug moves. Now it's useless against Dark Pokemon and is weak to three types and strong against only two.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. There was an extensive constellation of events that lead to Psychic being super potent in Gen I, almost none of which remain. Psychic is honestly kinda bad now, and Steel losing its resistance to it wouldn't make it broken by any means, all else being equal.
I sure said that!They aren't overpowered anymore.
Considering they have something immune to them......
,Yes, exactly.
Being immune to Ghost didn't help.

what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseEssentially, Psychic was overpowered because it was super effective against quite a few otherwise good types, and immune to another otherwise good type, and weak to only the weakest type in existence.
Doesn't that sound familiar......?
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseThe ghost immunity wouldn't really matter because Lick was the only Ghost type move to deal damage, and Gengar is weak to Psychic anyways.

I just double-checked the analysis, and the recommended set doesn't even run Zen Heabutt. It's Low Kick, Taunt, Earthquake, and Ice Punch/Stone Edge. Huh.
