^ I think that post may have some kind of Somebody Else's Problem Field or something, cuz I combed this that page three times before I noticed it. 0_o

EDIT: Of course, this would be page topper. -_-

Okay, I'm more than halfway through Friday now: where's my video? Yahtzee, you're in my timezone man, work with me. grin

(I've decided I'll pretend to be a nerd, sneak in and hide at the back)

I thought he updated American time. (I wouldn't know.)

I haven't watched the Other M review yet, but if he criticizes the Took a Level in Jerkass Samus got in her backstory, that'd be the most accurate thing he'd say in his reviews for... ever.

Besides Borderlands.

I live in the US Eastern time zone, and Yahtzee's videos always go up at noon for me (it's 8:25 am here right now)

Upon seeing the title he was reviewing, I knew Yahtzee's review this week was going to end up being somewhat positive. He has a definite soft spot for indie games.

And for horror games. Of a certain make, that is.

It seems like his second-to-last joke could've been his last joke and we wouldn't have really lost anything for the omission of the last one. The second-to-last one even had the usual tone of voice for the end of an episode.

Completely over-hyped franchise. Thank god there's someone sensible to tell it how it is :)

I'm not surprised at this comment, and I'm also not surprised on how much I want to snap ZP's fanbase's collective spine.

Quite frankly, I'm only mildly surprised at Yahtzee's surprise of what Reach did.

He didn't mind Halo 3, just wondered why it was so overhyped for a typical FPS game.

Well, I agree with that sentiment. I've never quite understood why the Halo series is as revered as it is..

Yeah, if you come from a PC Gaming background - which is where Yahtzee does come from - Halo is incredibly overhyped. It doesn't do anything new, as such, if you're already steeped in older franchises.

Just explaining why it would seem overhyped (overhyped, not bad before anyone tries to call me out on that) to someone in Yahtzee's position.

^^ Same. I've been a console gamer for 20 years, and I agree that Halo is overhyped.

Personally, I attribute it to the same attitude that made Final Fantasy VII the BEST RPG EVER: to a not-insignificant portion of gamers, this was their first console, and for those gamers, Halo was their first FPS. It was exciting and like nothing they'd seen before and it made them go, "WOW, this is the most awesome thing ever."

It wasn't anything particularly special for those of us who've grown up with gaming, not BAD, certainly not, but not the most glorious, amazing game ever to grace a console. But that's because it wasn't our first rodeo.

Pull your head out of your asses, PC gamers. Like it or not, the original Halo was a major step above PC shooters at the time in nearly everything it did, so don't look down on it like it was nothing special.

It standardised regenerating health, open colourful environments and a limitation of ammo, something PC games desperately needed.

Halo was fucking boring, but don't try and claim it wasn't better than PC shooters.

Pst, Indigo, maybe you should yank your own arsecheeks apart. Nobody's slagging Halo off, just stating it was overhyped.

I thought Halo was amazing, and it wasn't even close to being my first fps on PC or a console.

Why do we always get people showing off as the one special snowflake, christ. It's kind of a given these opinions aren't global, just very general.

My point was that a generalisation like that only takes one person to make it fall apart. Not trying to start a fight or anything.

Half-life had open, colourful environments, limited ammo, and an actual plot that doesn't make you want to tear off your head. Half-life 2 and the episodes have something significantly better than regenerating health.

Really, the game that proved consoles could do FPS was Goldeneye 64. Halo just popularised the genre, and rather lamely at that. Call of Duty is certainly a much better series, which works well on both the PC and consoles. It also, again, doesn't have a mind-blowingly stupid plot. Hell, the defining feature of the genre since Half-Life is the 'roller coaster ride' format, in which the player never has to relent control of the character he's playing, and Call of Duty embraces that much more than Halo, by making it about the player's experience rather than tacking on a schlocky plot to an arcadey game about gunning down cartoony aliens.
