You know how mad scientists are, if something doesn't work just right the first time, they chuck it in the bin and start from scratch.

The fact that he stuck with the theme of Androids for 20 of them suggests otherwise.

I wonder what happened to Androids 1-7 and 9-12.

Don't recall about the first 7, but 9-12 were considered failures. One of the chapter title pages during the Cell saga had timeline of sorts for Gero's creations.

Maybe he was afraid the infinite energy model screwed up the mind?

Personally, I like to believe that Gero just really liked the idea of his ultimate creation being Android No. 1, so he started at 20 and just worked his way down. This also explains why lower numbered androids are consistently more powerful than higher numbered androids. It doesn't explain the existence of Eighter, however.

Also doesn't match up with the timeline, or the information we're given on Gero's creations in general.

Well, Eight is really not a creation of his originally. A Retcon was made in order to make him look like he was.

Er, what? I thought Eight was, and some outside source pegged a different scientist as his creator, long before Z revealed anything about Gero, obsoleting that source.

Please tell me we aren't too far off from a new episode.

They were going one episode a month until the 2 month gap between the last two. The last episode was a month ago.
