Do you want to start slow and work your way up to the full-on yuri, or do you want to jump right in? 'Cause I don't know anything about actual yuri series, but I do know a fair bit about mild GL series.
If you want something to get you in the right frame of mind, Cardcaptor Sakura has a gentle feel that'll prepare you for anything. Follow it up with Revolutionary Girl Utena. After that I don't know.
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!I'd just look through the list on mangafox 'til you find something that looks interesting, if you don't have any particular preferences.
I'll post some recommendations from manga.
Funny: Honey Crush
Kinky: Gokujou Drops
Moe (but not fanservicey) : First Love Sisters
Realistic: Octave
Silly and Fanservicey: Otome Kikan Gretel
Slice of Life: Aoi Hana
Warm and fuzzy: Ame-iro Kouchakan Kandan

and that's how Equestria was made!I would add to that list under Slice of Life/Comedy: Sasameki Koto
Visit my contributor page to assist with the "I Like The Cheeses" project!I haven't actually seen or read any proper GL (well, unless you count Kannazuki No Miko). I just happen to be into things in which it's suggested, like Lucky Star or Nanoha.
I really ought to get around to Strawberry Panic one of these days.

Play Again? Y/NYeah, Manga Fox is great for Yuri manga. If you don't mind it being explicit, I'd recommend this anthology in particular.

Scanlated yuri manga? May I direct you to the Lililicious site?

I have a very good Shoujo Ai manga that I want to introduce to people, but its not popular so I can't introduce it to people who read scanlations. Please, those of you who visit scanlations sites for yuri/shoujo ai, please help me find the manga Blue by the author Kiriko Nananan. Its just one volume, but its the most realistic shoujo ai manga I read.
Edit : The is an official English version, its been officially translated, thus I fear there won't be a scanlated version online.
Edit 2 : Sorry if this sounds like a thread hijack. I just want to recommend this manga to be people, but its awfully difficult to get hold of, legally or illegally.

It really depends on what you're looking for. Yuri is a pretty diverse genre, so it's somewhat hard to make a good recommendation without an idea of what you want in a series.
And Crunchyroll has at least two notable Yuri series. Aoi Hana and Sasameki Koto.

Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully, I'll remember to act upon them some time.
To answer the question about what I'm looking for in a series, specifically, I really don't know. My knowledge of the genre extends about as far as the wiki page and most of the associated tropes listed on it. I get the feeling I'll know what I like when I see it, and not a minute sooner.
Alright, well:
Ame-Iro Kouchakan Kandan is a nice series if you think you'd like something warm and fuzzy. It's... adorable.
Aoi Hana is probably the best Slice of Life Yuri series out there.
Pieta excels in the drama and psychological aspects of Yuri.
Sasameki Koto is a good Slice of Life comedy. It bit more fanservicey than the rest.
Honey & Honey is in no way typical of a Yuri, but it's a good comedy series and gives some insight into LGBT culture in Japan.

Personally I'm fond of Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl and Iono The Fanataics (Though my greatest wish for Iono is a short anime series and for someone to officially release volume 2 in English)
Welcome to the Sea of Chaos@ Mapi - I'm surprised you didn't also recommend Saki since I know you're fond of that one. Of course, with Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl and Maria-sama ga Miteru already listed, maybe you didn't feel like giving Kana Ueda a hat trick.

and that's how Equestria was made!Actually, you're right; I might get blatantly drawn out for fangirling Kana Ueda...
...
Oh well, now that that's out, Saki. It's either a Shounen Mahjong anime or some really WAFF-y Girls' Love. Take your pick; I loved it.
My FF.net accountI like Saki too, but I"m only on volume 2 of the manga. So far there hasn't been that much GL, but Nodoka and Saki are definitely into each other.
I mean, the very first line is Saki mooning over how pretty Nodoka is.
Play Again? Y/NYOUR BOOBS.
STOP HIDING TILES IN THEM.

Time for a derail: Kana Ueda as a Yuri poster girl.
Cases in point:
- Hazumu
- Saki
- Hayate
- Yumi
- Rin
- Rika
- Real Life (with Kaori Shimizu, Mamiko Noto, and Shizuka Ito)
Discuss.

My FF.net accountOH SHIT MAPI'S COMING QUICK HIDE YOUR LESBIANS
@ zeroplusalpha - If you ever get a chance to watch the anime, you'll find that it's a lot more yuri themed than the manga.
and that's how Equestria was made!Nodoka is (in)famous for blushing so often due to yuri stuff.
My FF.net accountWHEN A MOMMY AND A MOMMY LOVE EACH OTHER VERY MUCH...
I don't know if I'm ready to open this particular can of worms just yet, but I have sallied forth deep into the uncharted wilderness known by the ancients as the Manga & Anime subforum to seek your counsel, so I'm not about to turn back now.
The heart of the matter is that regardless of your preferred nomenclature for the genre, I'm looking for recommendations. Scanlated manga is probably my best bet, unless you happen to be able to divine if an anime series is available for streaming in Australia PROTIP. For the moment, I don't have enough hard drive space to use torrents, and regardless, I wouldn't know where to find such a beast.
If you need more information, don't hesitate to ask.
