This thread is for tropers who have trouble with English and would like some help with the crazy grammar of this crazy language.

Write down what you wish to edit on the wiki. If you have been suspended from editing, another troper might be kind enough to edit for you after your suggestions have been corrected.

The thread is for help and feedback on your own suggested edits.

If you want help correcting other people's edits (e.g., if you find a page which seems to have grammar problems but want a second opinion, or you don't feel able to fix it by yourself) then that's off-topic here, but we have a separate Grammar Police cleanup thread that can provide assistance.

That's because some of the wiki markup doesn't work on the forums and some of the forum markup doesn't work on the wiki.

This wiki markup is intuitive, but can be really baffling at time.

Yeah, it drives me nuts sometimes because I am also on IJBM II, the Drowtales forum, etc., and they all use different markups. What do you need help with?

"This wiki markup is intuitive, but it can be really baffling at times."

Technically, the "it" in that sentence is optional. English allows implied pronouns in some cases, when you're using a series of phrases with the same subject.

Well, I was aware that the "it" was optional, but the "times" was a genuine mistake.

Hm, I still don't know some specificities of the markup, it will take time.

How to pothole properly is probably the thing you're going to use most often. Next up would be formatting things like folder control and image controls.

[up][up] Really, image control? Wouldn't bulleting lists properly, headers, itatics and bold, and categorization go before images, since images aren't required?

Hmm...let me see if I can take a jab at this:

Ice King's favorite penguin, according to Marcelline's dad, is the real Ultimate Evil of Ohhho.

Is that what you meant?

[up][up]Ice King's favorite penguin and, according to Marceline's dad, is the the real Ultimate Evil of Ooo.

(Marceline only has one l in her name. I worded this differently than chihuahua because this creates more of a separation between the two ideas.)

And I'll tweak it a bit further:

Gunther

The Ice King's favorite penguin and, according to Marceline's dad, the real Ultimate Evil of Ooo.

I took out the "is" to make the two clauses parallel in construction. The first one didn't have an "is", the second one did. You also had a case of "the the"

Your money is not useful. Of course, you can melt coins and make something of them (but it's more like an art project than real application), you can burn your paper cash to warm yourself (but paper/cloth is not a good fuel). But the only real reason for people to accept it, is because everyone agreed to do so, and you can guarantee that money you got for your goods and services you can trade for goods and services. The moment people lose faith in it, money will be worth nothing.

But this money is different. You can actually use it. Maybe you can eat it if you are hungry, or kill people with it, or treat sick people with it. It is not too different from a barter economy - it is still goods in exchange for goods and services. But now we have a thing that is universally accepted, even by people who don't need it (because they can pay for something else), something that can be used to estimate worth of everything else in a world. This is a subtrope of Weird Currency as using ammo or canned food as money is weird, but shells and wooden plates are not useful.

Highlight and copy, no coding. Don't talk about how it hasn't launched in the description. What kind of "shells" do you mean? Shells are a type of bullet.

"Shells" as in seashells, I believe.

I'd expand it to seashells or possibly bottlecaps if you want to continue what it is.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

In most contexts, "shells" would be fine, but since you're using it so close to the word "ammo" it'd be best to distinguish them.

I'd also suggest that first sentence should say "...than a real application..."

Good Bad Bug deviantART had a bug were if you got a message as soon as you check them the time would sometimes say "In the future"

Good Bad Bug: Deviant Art had a bug that if you got a message, when you checked it, the time would sometimes say "In the future."

  • Colon after the name of the trope.
  • spelling, wrong word: "Were" is the plural of "was" (I was", "we were", "they were"). "Where" is identifies location ("the place where I left my purse"). The bug wasn't a location, so use "that" ('the thing specified', in this case, "the bug").
  • Word choice: "as soon as" is generally used to mean means "and not before". In this case, it's clearer to say "when".
  • Tense: The checking had to have already happened for the bug to be noticed. Use past tense.
  • Pronoun/antecedent agreement: The sentence is talking about "a message". That is the antecedent, and it's singular. "It" is the singular pronoun; "them" is plural and would be correct if the sentence read "If you got messages...".

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.

OK I don't think that conveys what I'm trying to say exactly right. Getting the message and reviving has to be simultaneous.
