Literally no one Melisandre has killed is a more interesting character than her except maybe Cressen, who's certainly the best prologue/epilogue POV but played out his role nicely in the time he had and didn't really have anywhere else to go.

Be fair. Cressen killed himself. Technically. And she did warn him not to do it.

Heart of StoneChrist, are people having the "how can you like X they're horrible" argument again??
What is so hard to understand about the concept that you can "like" a character for making things interesting without "liking" them as a person?
~Puts on asbestos suit~
I thought Davos was the most boring POV in ACOK and ASOS. Okay maybe Sam was worse...maybe.
At least his POV has Whatsherface. The green haired Manderly girl.
Heart of StoneBurn the heretic.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Don't bother, he's wearing a suit made out of asbestos; he'll get cancer soon enough.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Wow wow wow, what is this? People are speaking ill of Davos? The hell?
I do like Melissandre as character, though I didn't really liked her until we got more human characteristics from her in her POV chapter on ADWD, plus she is somewhat connected to the bigger plot that will fall upon everybody when, hopefully, TWOW finally comes out. That being said, I will also enjoy seeing her fall, because c'mon, visions and prophecies always end biting the people who makes them or believes in them in the ass in Westeros and beyond.
I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.Hello everyone ^-^. Glad to see you all are keeping this thread alive (it's one of the two threads I actually bother to visit.)
I'm curious, how many here have read the Tales of Dunk and Egg? I was given the actual novellas as an early Christmas gift from my brother and I LOVED them. I had only read the Mystery Knight graphic novel before, but thanks to him I got to read the Tales in their original form.
But to pitch in my feelings about Davos, I like him very much cause honestly? I can only take so much of the scheming, prophecies, and the Westerosi banging on about the evils of oathbreakers and bastards. Davos is a wonderful counterbalance to all of that, and he's very proactive in the sense that while he is unquestionably loyal to Stannis, Davos dedicates his service by giving Stannis what he NEEDS, more than what he WANTS. While Davos might not be as well trained in arms as most of the other knights in the books, he ends up following the vows of Knighthood better and smarter (which is crucial) than the majority of them. It also doesn't hurt that Davos never tries to pretend he's something he isn't as opposed to a lot of other characters who bite off more than they can chew.

Davos is one of my favourite POV for one simple reason. He tends to be with Stannis and Stannis is the best character. Of course there are other reasons I like him, loyal, nice etc.
I also like Melisandre partly since y'know she's allied with Stannis and the argument of the major people she kills falls short to me because ultimately she saves many lives that would be lost otherwise in those battles.
Team Dragonstone all the way.
Tealove is best pony.Pony Fanon IndexI support Stannis almost entirely because of Davos.
It was a difficult delivery, now it's growing up mean and strong. One thing I find interesting from reading the Dunk and Egg stories is how Dunk, like Davos, is peasant-born, and reflects on how peasants tend to support those who are good-looking and charming, and are the best warriors (or at least do a good impersonation of it).
However, Dunk and Davos themselves (and I think Martin too) favor more intellectual types who may not be as charming (or in the case of Stannis, were absent when charisma was being handed out).
One reason I find this interesting is because of how it weighs in the Stannis vs. Renly debate, but also, it's cool how Davos is in some ways a new generation's equivalent of Dunk. So is Brienne, who is possibly Dunk's descendent (interestingly, a Davos chapter mentions that Brienne's father was the only lord who gave him the time of day when he was seeking support for Stannis).
HodorI just cut out the middleman and support Davos.
Doesn't Brienne find Dunk's shield at one point? (I haven't read those books, but I think I read that either on this site or the wiki). Looks like there's quite a deliberate theme of tying those three characters together.

Heh- if a character freaks you out that much- it only indicates how effectively written that character is. Any writer worth his salt will prefer to write memorable characters who are hated by the readers that mediocre ones that are forgotten right away.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Most of the characters that Melisandre has killed were given a way out and they chose to ignore it.
Melisandre hasn't killed that many characters. Three people in ACOK, the hawk in ASOS, and Rattleshirt is her entire body count, as far as named characters go. Unless I'm forgetting something.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."@Gilph
She burns that one dude in the cell with Davos alive to create a fair wind.
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"That one dude was a traitor to the crown IIRC.

He was also the only reasonable person on that damn rock, trying to get an alliance with the Arryns and other politicing that Stannis refused to do.
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"Yes, trying to marry Shireen off to the Lannisters was so smart and not at all the complete opposite of what Team Dragonstone's agenda is.
Tealove is best pony.Pony Fanon IndexWell, it is definitely a good illustration of the moral greyness that Melisandre and Stannis executed the good Florent brother (who was indeed technically a traitor, albeit a well-intentioned one), and left alive the one who is a self-interested asshole.
HodorMoral ambiguity bothers many people. Therefore, it's a questionable approach to real life, but makes for great characters and story-telling.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."
The real reason for Ramsay's sadism, Gregor's violence, Tywin ruthlessness, Cersei's madness, Jaime's cynisism, Ned's foolishness, Cat's recklessness, Renly's ambition, Stannis sour mood, Tyrion moral twists, Walder's wickedness and many others failings is beets. The Children of the Forest, under the guidance of the foul Bloodraven, having poisoning the Westerosi through beets. It's literaly the root of all evil. And only pure good King Tommem is aware of this. His army of warged cats will kill all of Bloodraven's feathered spies and deliver wildfire to that cave were he hides.
