A third son to a Lord Paramount is still a third son. They're likely to marry into vassal Houses, so a Manderly or a Mormont would be more likely.
Asha was 8 at most when Quellon died and Balon would be unlikely to agree to it. The Greyjoys are a Great House, equal to the Starks in rank.
Hoster came close. He tried marrying Edmure off to Arianne and had Lysa and Catelyn marry into House Arryn and Stark respectively.

Are there any images for Lum and Lester, the Lannister guardsmen?
Student Researcher, Student of Human Computer Interaction, Like any books with or without prophecies!Equal to the Starks in rank, but not in power.
Agreed. Rank and power are not necessarily the same thing.
Westeros doesn't really have ranks of nobility like European countries. There's no Dukes, Earls, or Barons, just "Lord" and "Knight". And I guess "Lord Paramount, which I suppose would be the equivalent of a Duke. And they don't seem to have courtesy titles either.
What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.Lester and Lum have no pics
I had to google them just to make sure they were the ones I was thinking of
Why'd you ask about them, Minch?

"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."Kind of funny that Lester is known as "Red Lester". Wonder if the pun is deliberate.
I never said they were as strong as the North. Just that they'd be unlikely to accept a marriage to a third son. The IB look down on the mainlanders too.
Balon's dad didn't which is why I was suggesting it could be possible at that point.
Also Asha wasn't an heir or anything. She was 5th in line to the Seastone Chair after Balon, Theon, Rodrik and Maron which even further back than Benjen.
The Greyjoys aren't equal to the Starks in rank.
The Starks = Wardens of the North and Lord Paramount
Greyjoys = Lord of the Iron Islands

"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."Asha was 7 or 8 when he died. And even then, it's a third son. I can see him agreeing to a first son though.
All of the LP's of are equal rank. The Starks aren't above the Greyjoys, the Lannisters aren't above the Starks etc.

I think the title of Warden is above the one of Lord, if only on paper. Hence, why the Martells & the Tyrells are feuding over the title of Warden of the South.

It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane. It's an added honor, but as far as social status comes it doesn't raise them above the other Lord Paramounts. And even at times of war, sometimes it's meaningless. In the war of the ninepenny kings, the threat was coming from the Free Cities so on paper, Jon Arryn should have been in charge. Him or his father. However, the Westerosi army was being led by Ormund Baratheon, the Kings Hand. Likewise, Tywin should have been in charge during the Greyjoy Rebellion, but Stannis and Robert were in command.
King's decree beats Warden status. Warden is more of main/first line of authority against a threat from that direction. Wildlings, IB, Dorne, Essos.
(•_•)⌐■-■ ( ಠ_ಠ)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)Too bad the Greyjoys aren't Lord Paramounts.
Putting the Starks above the Greyjoys.
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."The Starks aren't Lords Paramount either. The Starks and Greyjoys are Great Houses, but the only confirmed Lords Paramount are the Baratheons, Tullys, and Tyrells. Being the head of a Great House and being Lord Paramount are two different things.

It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.Nonetheless Lord Quellon could gain a lot from betrothing Asha to Benjen.
It doesn't just have to be about how close they are to inheriting.
A third son of Rickard Stark's might be a good deal better than whatever other option was possible and more profitable.
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."I'm not sure what you were trying to link to, but that one took me to a photo of a fairly attractive man with a winning smile and a hairy chest. A pleasant surprise compared to what it could've been, but I'm not sure how it proves the Starks are Lord Paramounts.

O_O
I'm legitimately creeped out right now. Both by that pic & by trying to process how it mixed up with this link.
Please tell me it links to the GOT wiki...

Thank god that didn't happen.
OK, this is freaking me out.
What does this link say ? http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Lord_Paramount
It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane. It's a link to the lord paramount article on the wiki.
x6 I don't know what to say. A third son isn't a good option. They stand to inherit nothing. Waymar Royce took the black as a third son for that reason. I know the Royces aren't as powerful as the Starks, but it still says something. I can't think of a third son that got to marry the only daughter of an LP.

Third son to a Lord Paramount.
I don't think Asha was out of the question if Rickard were to do this while Lord Quellon was still around.
I mean remember at the time she had three brothers and the Greyjoys aren't even Lord Paramounts putting them below the Starks in terms of political power in addition to economical and military power.
Yeah Arianne would probably be reaching. I only said her because she was in going to inherit Dorne and it pleases me to think Rickard was scheming to install his sons as Lord Paramounts of 3 different Kingdoms.
