I think it's safe to assume Catwoman, though. And that's awesome as long as Angelina Jolie doesn't go anywhere near her.
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextAwww man the Riddler would've been awesome. He was my favourite part of Arkham Asylum. Oh well, I guess Arkham Asylum 2 will have to provide me with more awesome Riddler antics.
I honestly don't know what villain he can pull out now that could top the Joker or even come close to the Joker. The Riddler could've been slightly twisted to come up with a villain to really screw with Batman's mind, what other rogues are there?
Can Nolan pull off the Scarecrow again? I mean, he didn't have much screen time in both movies. I want to see him as the main villain. But given that his gimmick is no longer effective against Batman...
Hugo Strange would be awesome, but unlikely.
"I want to create an omelet that expresses the meaninglessness of existence, and instead they taste like cheese."I've always hoped for Mr.Freeze...
You forgot the nightmare gas from Crane and the microwave thingy that was supposed to burst the pipes.
As for Scarcrow returning, unlikely. The cameo (or whatever you call it) at the beginning of TDK is probably the last we'll see of him, at least directly. If nothing else, I don't see Nolan being that keen on the whole Cardboard Prison thing, especially since he doesn't need it to keep making more sequels since TDKR is to be the last Batsy film he makes.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpBefore he jossed the Riddler, he jossed Mr. Freeze.
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft Next^Damn :(
I know, duh. It's just my hopeless dream.
Nolan can do good female villains. See Natalie in Memento. I thunk the problem as the Nostalgia Critic pointed out is that Nolan puts female sympathetic characters into the Girls Need Role Models ghetto.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Argh, the Riddler and Mr. Freeze are probably my two favourite bat-villains. A lot of people have been throwing around the idea that it'll be Black Mask, but, while I grant you that I've never actually read or seen anything with him in, from what I do know, he doesn't seem like a very...super villain. I mean, his gimmick is that he has a mask fused to his face. Two-Face already provides us with more than enough facial trauma, do were really need more?
...when am I going to get my serious cinematic Riddler?
The man was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Nobel Peace Prize. He was the best at both killing and not killing - StrangerIt was one of the first things he completely jossed as a kind of stab at B&R.
That could also mean that Bane and Ivy are extremely unlikely too (Ivy I was pretty sure of not appearing, but Bane had potential I guess)
I still feel a bit peeved at the lack of Riddler. Guess we gotta wait for the trailers before we see any villains.
I'm just baffled as to what the plot will be. I'm sure if Nolan wants a character included, they'll work no matter who they are, but what is this movie actually going to be about? If I asked you a year and a half before Batman Begins came out what happens in it, you would have said, "We see the origin story, and he saves Gotham." If I asked for The Dark Knight, you would say something along the lines of, "Batman and the Joker have a cat and mouse game, and Batman stops his arch-nemesis just in time to save Gotham." Those both leave out a ton of information, but they give you the gist, and they're exactly what you would want them to be.
But now? "Batman's a wanted fugitive, but he keeps fighting crime. And there's some other people involved...somehow. And he stops them from doing whatever they were doing, proves he's a force for good, and saves the day." Would it really be that straight-forward? I mean, how does the ante get upped from last time? Dammit Nolan, how are you going to make this the greatest trilogy ever?!
Hey... Penguin?
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft Next^ He Jossed him too way back around The Dark Knight.
OK, he already Jossed a bunch of the greatest ones in Bats' Rogue Gallery. So what are you going to do now, Nolan? I want the Riddler, damn it!
@Aceof Knaves: Batman is a wanted fugitive, this is about his redemption and return as the Hero of Gotham?
I dunno how Nolan can make this work when he's constantly jossing all of the biggest names in Batman's Rogues gallery. I dunno anything about the b list other than the profiles in arkham asylum but those profiles didn't seem that interesting other than Hush and Black Mask.
I've got my money on Hush.

I'm hoping for Black Mask. Him being in the villain makes the most sense to me, what with all the problems the mob has as of TDK's ending. Nolan could have Black Mask try and reform the mob with him as its head.

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.Oh my god, the next villain's gonna be D.A.V.E!!!
Tobias Drake: You got it wrong. I said most fans thought Riddler was next, even though nothing really hinted in that way except Mr. Reese. BECAUSE he was the most "mundane" villain, not DESPITE that.
I agree that Nolan doesn't seem to have the knack for female villains. That not a comment against his talent, it's just that everyone have a limitation. And Natalie was more a mysterious entity/force of nature than a real character.

I'm a little aprehensive about a female villian. Not because the gotham girls aren't 34 flavours of kickass, but more because Nolan just doesn't seem to write women all that well. I mean they're not demeaning screamers or anything but they are always kind of bland. If Nolan brings in any of the gotham sirens he had better give them some hutzspa
