Hoo boy, I've been following liveblogs and streams of Dai Gyakuten Saiban the past few days and...wow. It's a really, really unique game in the series in a very good way. And not just in its setting either.

I really hope this gets a localization soon because wow.

Oh, huh, it's out now in Japan?

I'll have to make sure to avoid spoilers.

[up] Don't worry.

Pl VS AA managed to avoid spoilers for years. As great as the spin off games are there's never anyone that wants to post spoilers for some reason.

Right. PW v PL gives me hope of the Great Ace Attorney game being localized. That one took years till it was even announced as well.

Hopefully the power of Sherlock Holmes will help the game get localized.

So can we put in the DGS characters in the character pages? We did put in PLvsAA and AA 5 characters before a localization happened, after all.

Hmm...maybe we should also merge Gyakuten Kenji 2's character page with the Investigations page?

I'd personally keep the two separate just because of the lack-of-translation issue, personally, but I don't really curate the Ace Attorney pages.

So I played the first game a couple years ago and loved it a lot. However, looking back, there's an order of events I' not quite sure on.

When von Karam was shot by lil' Miles, didn't he kill Gregory Edgeworth right then and there? Like, I always felt kinda bad for Manfred at that moment. He didn't set out to murder Miles' dad, he just did it because he himself had just been shot and he was obviously confused due to pain and anger.

Manfred von Karma has been a prosecutor for 40 years and got everyone he prosecuted declared guilty. Him shooting Gregory might've been the first time he used a weapon fatally, but it likely was not the first time he caused someone to be killed unfairly.

Not to mention what he did to Jeff Master.

He was in pain, yes, but when the doors opened and he saw the man who had slighted him and a gun on the ground, his desire for revenge overpowered any pain or confusion he may have been suffering from.

And besides killing him, he also took in his son, sculpted him into the exact thing his father hated, then would have had him executed believing himself to have murdered his own father just to rub it in further and erase every last speck of Gregory Edgeworth from the world.

A special interview with Takumi.

Huh, Ace Attorney would have been a Game Boy Color game. I wonder how that would have worked?

Hello, thread. I'm just a guy who suddenly got a renewed interest in the series since replaying Justice for All a few weeks back.

While I've played Trials and Tribulations, I just stopped in the middle of Recipe for Turnabout. After my flame got rekindled, I finished T&T proper a few days ago. An awesome way to finish the trilogy.

Currently at Turnabout Corner(Apollo Justice, case 2).

I wonder why Larry wasn't in JFA. I know the first game ended (until Rise from the Ashes came about) with Larry revealing he was the one who stole the money and cementing himself as a terrible jerk for all future games, but it's still odd that he's not around to find out that Edgeworth "chose death". He does consider himself Edgeworth's friend, after all.

Larry's foolish tomfoolery wasn't needed for that game. Franziska whipping him into the ground would've been a lot worse. ...And Franziska would've used his existence as ammo to berate Wright even more. I think.tongue

Speaking of Wright, he sure looks good with a tam. Also, since he's not an attorney in AJ, the "Kick Me!" sign is off him! A thousand apologies when I get to the trial, Apollo.

It's gonna be funny seeing him put it back on in DD.[lol]

His office may have changed, but Charley's still around. As are those legal books that stand in a formidable row. But they mock him no more. Because he doesn't care.

I like that one of Apollo's nicknames is that parrot.tongue

They should have left it possible to examine any scene.

Or at least the ones with running gags.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

[up]Are you talking about DD? Because you can examine any scene...in the Quiz DLC. Which we didn't get. sad

So I just finished Case 2 in Dual Destinies and there's one thing that's bothering me.

Phoenix keeps telling Apollo that the best thing he can do is keep believing in his client, no matter what. Um, Phoenix? Does the name Matt Engarde ring any bells?

i think thats statement is case specific. phoenix has a good look over each of apollo's clients, and lets not forget apollo is still technically a rookie. best to keep it simple unless given reason not to.

[up][up], [up] Right. Point taken.

Still, I found it a little strange that that case wouldn't come up at all. Seemed a bit like an "elephant in the room" moment.

Then again, I guess they didn't want to include spoilers in case there were people playing the game before JFA.

Yeah, games tend to not spoil previous games. Even the one time Farewell, My Turnabout was referenced in T&T it was pretty much 'that Nickel Samurai case where Maya was kidnapped', and only talked about it in reference to Adrian (without spoiling much).

Shelly de Killer shows up during the first case of AAI 2 and they mention nothing of the original case featuring said character aside from the fact that Edgeworth was involved in it.

The only spoiler that is consistently referenced is that Manfred von Karma is evil. And if you can't figure that out considering how he looks, I don't know what to tell you.

So I just finished Dual Destinies. [MINOR UNMARKED SPOILERS AHEAD]

All I have to say is: holy fuck. My feelings toward Cases 1-4 were generally mixed to positive, but Case 5 gets a huge thumbs up from me. I don't think there has ever been a case in the series as disturbing, as tragic or as beautiful.

One moment in particular that hit me right in the feels was when Phoenix returned to the agency alone (Apollo took a leave of absence, Trucy was investigating the museum, and Athena was in jail). The game really did a great job of letting that powerful feeling of loneliness creep in before Phoenix finds the letter from Maya, who we hadn't seen or heard from since Trials & Tribulations.

And then Pearl shows up at your door, and all I wanted to do was reach through my 3DS and give her a hug. "Pearlie!" I almost said out loud. "Look how much you've grown!"

I love to learn, I love to yearn, and most of all... I love to make money.
