i remember on my No Kill Run where isaw the komato duck under their own missile and i was like "FUCK THEY'RE INTELLIGENT"

and then i did it again and i was like "oh"

or even better

reflect a missile back at a komato, have them duck under it, only for the berserker behind them to reflect it back at me and wind up slamming the original shooter in the ass

It took me a while to find out how to hit enemies without them ducking on Extreme. I pretty much just gave up on reflecting entirely though.

Dunno if this warrants a discussion, but last Friday Iji got a shout-out from a moderately popular gaming Youtube channel.

Anyone got a copy of that Iji medley from Indie Brawl? There used to be a link to it on Medinoc's website, but then it disappeared.

IIRC I 403'd the whole directory due to bandwidth issues. I'll see if I can re-open access to it for the end of the month.

If I got things right, I restored access to the music file.

This is probably not very interesting, but a few months ago I e-mailed Hyper Duck Soundworks on the possibility of releasing the Iji Soundtrack on Spotify and other places (since it's the only soundtrack of theirs not available). Here's their reply:

We may do that one day - honestly the quality of our mixes on it aren't great, so I'd probably want to fix that one day before considering something like that. We've got it on our to-do list though, and 2018 is the 10 year anniversary of a few things, so we'll see what happens!

I don't know about you, but I'm reserving a small amount of hype.

Also, I'm planning on uploading the full version of Further to my Youtube. I'll probably update this post when it's up. EDIT: here it is:

Bumping because Iji 1.7 is in development.

It will run better on modern operating systems, have new non-lethal weapons, and two new endings, among other things.

Oh what good timing. I recently played through this game. It'll be nice to see the differences with the old version fresh in my mind.

Hoping the update fixes the slowdown on the Tor fight, since that was my main issue with the performance.

And now I'm wishing that I had waited to start Alphastruck until the game had already been updated with all this new stuff, because it'd have been really useful for it.

Ah well, I'm hype anyway.

Mmm, nonlethal weapons. Finally an alternative to running away as fast as possible.

Wonder how that's going to fit into the lore, though. Both the Tasen and the Komato seem pretty dead-set on the murder-death-kill route.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

Huzzah! I was actually just thinking about this game the other day. 2017 has me hyped for so many games and I'm glad that Iji is now one of them.

Maybe it could be some cracked version?

It's implied that neither Tasen nor Komato actually created the nanotechnology. It's just someone else's technology that they stole and adapted, and their weapons "development" is really just finding things that were already built in.

So all it would take would be a couple logbooks where someone talks about the nonviolent weapons with disdain, or notes how they stumbled upon a nonlethal weapon and threw it away for being "useless", or how the researchers who found such-and-such weapon need to stop wasting time and make a real weapon.

Alternatively, a stun weapon would work just fine if you follow it up with a melee attack or a rocket to the face. Basic troopers on both sides are capable of dodging normal rockets after all.

How the fuck did it only take me until now to realize Daniel Remar named Iji's brother after himself?

He didn't. It's just a name he liked, that coincidentally happened to be the same as his own.

The "I just think it's a cool name" excuse kind of falls flat when it's your own name.

I know it's hard to believe, but Dan wasn't named after me. :p Chris Geehan is the only one who's ever called me Dan. Here's how his name is pronounced in Swedish: https://youtu.be/S5IFrCyjoRc

As for the passive weapons, yes, they're only mentioned in logbooks detailing their exact function. The rest of the game ignores their existence, partly because no enemies use them. You press Enter to switch your Nanogun to Passive mode, which switches the eight basic weapons into Passive versions. They should hopefully make pacifist runs more interesting, eventhough you're still required to just jump past stuff - you can't permanently take someone out nonlethally. The Attack stat improves the Passive weapons in various ways, and certain ones are useful in killer runs as well. You also can't combine weapons or perform Retribution in Passive mode. Due to all of this, the Resonance Reflector will once again award Iji kills when used since it's an Active weapon. Some people may have a problem with that. :( Maybe that should be an option?

I actually wanted to ask around in this topic about my plans for the Passive weapons, since some of you are very knowledgable about the game and probably have some opinions on how to improve it, but at the same time I didn't want to reveal too much about 1.7 until I knew it was nearing completion - just in case drawing the new cutscene pictures would take longer than I thought. :/ The Passive weapons don't make that big of a difference, but at least it's a little better now. I hope.

Making this update has made me pretty nervous though. I dunno what people will think of the new endings, or the other little changes. I've been careful to make the triggers for the new endings obvious. Currently the only addition which comes with an option for turning it off is red blood, which wasn't in the game previously, and is only seen briefly when Iji dies or a few pixels on the human bodies in Sector 1. At any rate, version 1.6 will remain permanently available alongside 1.7.
