Well, that was better than I expected. I was worried it might be a one-hit-kill. I'm glad that wasn't the case. Now to wait for the next chapter and see how the fight ends...

Nanao fucked up

Did Lille basically pull an intelligent take on Kenpachi's "I'll give you a free shot?"

IE Act like he is just gonna let her hit him... and then block at the last minute to see if what she says is true.

The ending was weird.

Seems like it.

It was rather smart actually. You don't often see Villains take caution when they think they are already invincible like that.

Ya gotta admit Lille dosnt have the surprise Perni brought but the guy is genuinely capable & isnt too freaking arrogant.

I admit I feel better that Shunsui might take the lead here as the this chapter shows that even with the sword its still a fucking wooden stick that requires actual skill by its wielder. Skills Nanao fortunately does not have.

She still has to be the one to actually hurt him; Shunsui's just there to assist.

The fact that he has to actually hold her hands is proof to me that without him she would be turned into swiss cheese & that oddly makes me feel better.

Since when are we happy when a female character can only accomplish something with a big strong man helping them?

I mean, when Byakuya showed up just to pep talk Rukia, people flipped their shit, but Shunsui practically holds Nanao's hands, and it's all good?

Not quite getting it.

Its simple.

Byakuya already has tons of awesome moments while Rukia's fight was the first in....forever, really. Seeing Byakuya come in and take over felt like stealing her finest hour to add to his pile of feats..

Shuishi is shown fighting EXTREMELY rarely, and this was his assistants first shot at fighting. Its not stealing her spotlight as much since there was very little to steal from ( absolutely no references to her fighting ability before now) so its more understandable why Shuishi steps in.

also Shuishi is liked tons more than Byakuya because Byakuya is The Rival and we all hate him :P

Because Nanao is fighting way, way outside her tier. Why should she come out looking super awesome? It'd look like she was just handed a victory she didn't deserve.

That's literally it. The only reason shes in this battle is to wield some special god-slayer blade conveniently located in her family & only usable by those with her blood with no need for experience or power or fucking training. Shes a goddamn cheater.

The other thing is that Rukia's one of the main female characters and an established fighter and a lot of people had hoped for a long time to see her get a bankai. She'd had Royal Guard training and Renji had just thrashed his own opponent... Byakuya turned up just long enough to get closure for the earlier fight, but it did step on the toes of an established fighter.

Nanao had never fought, it had been stated her prowess was based on kidou, and she was about to fight an enemy the captain-commander couldn't defeat. Yes, it was the sword that gave her the ability, but given Kubo's history, people were afraid she'd reveal insane god-defeating skills from out of nowhere.

The fact she's struggling because she lacks the swordsmanship to take advantage of the weapon that can defeat Lille is actually one of Kubo's better decisions. She will get to do something awesome, but without making Kyouraku obsolete, and without pulling a Nozomi.

It looks like Lillebird is prancing on page 15 of th MS version.

The Theatre Suicide, Scene 6:

• I guess since the Hakkyouken was passed down generation after generation, there was no need for Nanao to have her own blade...
• Despite having a god-slaying weapon, Nanao didn't have the adequate swordsmanship to smite Lille. Liked that Lille decided to test her might.
• The curtain is slowly coming down on this play...

Depends on your sense of humor really. I admit I think I would chuckle a little if Shunsui & Nanao both died.

The Wafflehausen rez seems to have given these guys a pretty big boost, unless Nimaiya's just that much stronger than Shunsui.

I always took it that compared to every hero in this manga he decided to take no chances & just go straight for the fucking kill the 1st moment he had.

That is his bit. He tried that on Starrk like three times.

Oh shit, I forgot about Squad Zero, and those guys were actually cool characters. Dammit Kubo, when you introduce so many characters at once, you always fall back on the Soul Reapers, and then everyone else gets just-before-death development.

Squad Zero are Soul Reapers too... and besides, there's no way we're done with them.

Ichibei was being all ominous and besides him we only really got a glance at what they could do. They'll be back.

I mean at least it's not the same old half dozen faces. But still, I wish Hitsugaya and Byakuya died...
Hmm... if Bazz-B had killed Hitsugaya and permanently kept his Bankai...

While I want to see more out of the Royal Guard, it does make a lot more sense to put the majority of the focus on the more regular Shinigami characters.

Why would Bazz-B keep the Bankai he didn't have?

Well, it DID make them capable of taking out four of the Royal Guard when previously they were curbstomped by just one of them (with some assistance from another).
