Somebody on Deviant ART actually made their own comic about what caused the war. It's pretty well-drawn but I think it makes Yhwach into too big of a woobie, since in the comic the war started with an oppressed-minority revolution a la 1800s Haiti.

Quincies are scum and should be eradicated.

So we'll be right back where we started before this arc, with only two Quincies (The Ishidas). And that's assuming that Ryuken's death flags are a mere figment of my imagination.

Although I may be temporarily jaded and bitter cos I just came off weekend-long SUFFERING binge (Black Bullet and a couple of Urobutcher anime like Puella Magi).

It was a weird binge. I generally don't like SUFFERING, but my curiosity turned the whole thing into a trainwreck (don't want to watch, don't want to not watch).

What annoys me is that you have a bunch of quinces who could have had interesting backstories (Mask, Cang Du, Giselle, and BG 9 are some off the top of my head), but then Kubo decides to ignore that and portray the Quinces as dog kickingly evil despite the fact that the Soul Reapers tried to kill them all once before.

Would you recommend Black Bullet?

The Soul Reapers killed them because they refuse to stop their potentially universe destroying actions.

For whatever else might have happened in the war, we've never been shown anything that contradicts what the Quincies were doing, would in fact end up destroying everything in existence.

I forgot that. I still find it weird that none of the Vandenreich have really referenced the previous genocide except for Yhwach.

They weren't there during the previous genocide, so they can hardly have any memory of it.

That seems to be exactly the relationship the Shinigami and Arrancar already had prior to this story. Remember, Barragan (who ruled a significant portion of HM) had never seen shinigami before Aizen & co. showed up, and we're told that stronger Hollow and Arrancar are usually too busy fighting each other to be any real threat to Soul Society or Earth. Without a unifying force like Aizen, it's probably super-rare to see Arrancar actually attack anywhere outside of HM. And we know that before Urahara, Shinigami had no means of opening their own portal to invade.

So it's entirely likely that before now, most battles between Shinigami and Arrancar were rare skirmishes which the shinigami usually won. There may have been a war or two over the centuries (because people like Zommari, Nel and Grimmjow acknowledge that there's a bitter feud between the two species), but for the most part, they were probably both working under "Don't start none, won't BE none."

As for the Quincy, I'm curious to see how and if they can exist without Yhwach. From what we can tell, he indirectly controls all Quincy power, so with him gone, there might be a chance for peace. That depends on what his origins are (he seems to be connected to the Soul King) and what plans he has for Uryu as his "successor".

Yeah, I don't see the Soul Reapers an Arrancars ever being on friendly terms than what King Zeal described. By the very nature of what Arrancars are and what Soul Reapers do, any meaningful or long-term peace or understanding is impossible.

As for Quincies, I imagine some of the sternritter and mooks will be alive when all of this is done. Perhaps more willing to just get on with their lives once Yhwach is gone. Of course, that could be a problem seeing as most of them don't seem to have lives apart from the Wandenreich.

I suspect Bazz-B, a couple Femritters, and maybe Askin will survive. And Uryu, of course.

I picked Bazz for one of my survivors mostly because his personality kinda reminds me of Grimmjow.

Askin might live if it turns out he isn't secretly a Death Seeker.

The Femritters, I dunno. Probably Liltotto and Meninas, with Candice as a maybe. Bambietta, only if all zombies are restored by Mayuri (which he doesn't appear willing to do).

I'm actually starting to think there may be a mass resurrection finale for this arc, with all the Sternritter just losing their powers.

Though I usually hate doing this, Naruto works better in this situation. Bringing people back to life was always option in DBZ, in Naruto it was just a one of thing to reverse all the damage to have drama without a real lasting impact. (besides the village being destroyed, and they fixed that fairly quickly)

That'd be more similar to Naruto than Dragon Ball.

I don't think there'll be any super-happy peace between the Reapers, Arrancar, and Quincies, though grudging respect and mutual agreements to stop dicking with each other are likely. Bleach has always had the darkest tone of the Big Three, and an ending that's basically "everyone hugs" would be more Naruto's thing.
