I like these things, but I hate them.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahIt had to happen eventually, every popular topic has one.
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! ~ GODNo I meant I like visual novels, but I also hate them. The few I've played I like, but also viciously hate. Especially the When They Cry series. Then again I love-hate every form of that franchise so...

There are a few really good ones I've tried as well as some rare emulated playstation ones. I still play one called elan even though it's totally in Japanese.
(You can find elan as well as a ton of other insanely rare ones here; good luck finding translations though.)

Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! ~ GODWe still have this thread it just accidentally dropped at Visual Arts. Wait until it gets back.
But this isn't really gushing, we just talk about whatever.
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! ~ GODI've only played the When They Cry games (still working on getting through them) and the Ace Attorney games really. I've played small amounts of Katawa Shoujo and liked what little of it I did play...though I violently hated it too...
Things I like about When They Cry
- The characters
- The plot I guess
- The music
- The character's relationships
- Reading
- THE ART IS JUST SO BAD
Things I hate about When They Cry
- How fast the plot moves
- How fucking boring the first episodes of both series are, but especially Umineko
- The characters
- Choice lackage
- OH GOD THE READING
- THE ART IS JUST SO BAD
Things I like about Ace Attorney
- HOLY FUCK I GET TO DO SHIT AND HAVE CHOICES
- It's funny
- Good example of how to localize something
- The concept
- Reading
- The dramatic music and SHOUTING
Things I hate about Ace Attorney
- Sometimes having no fucking clue what evidence I am supposed to be presenting
- OH GOD SO MUCH READING
- Being a visual novel
Why has Visual Arts/Graphics been renamed to Visual Arts?
Also, the Visual Novel thread in Manga & Anime should be moved here.
AND WE STILL DON'T HAVE A SUBFORUM FOR TOYS :|
Also Anonym, define high sexual content.
If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.VN thread and several others should probably be moved here or this subforum is going to wither and die. Like the Nasuverse thread.
The problem being that Kara No Kyoukai is NOT a Visual Novel. How does that work then?
My FF.net accountWell, Tsukihime and FSN certainly are. Kagetsu Tohya, Hollow Ataraxia... Maybe Melty Blood. The VN side of things vastly outnumbers the Anime side of things, especially since FSN is the only other one to get an okay anime adaptation. And we don't stick with just the anime there either.
Hmm, point conceded.
My FF.net accountSo, I finished Ever17 a while ago and I think I'm ready to try another VN, any non-eroge, non-dating sim ones I should try?
(It has sex scenes but you can just skip those)
If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.@CDRW: You might like Nitroplus's stuff, like Chaos Head.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.Personally, I hated Chaos Head. Is it okay if the story in question has sex scenes so long as the story isn't about them? For example, you can cut the sex scenes out of Kanon and not interrupt for the flow of the story at all.
So I am really liking Amagami SS and the recomendation thread said I should try one out... any suggestions? Also pm a link if ya could.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Try a what out? A Visual Novel? Amagami isn't in English as far as I know. I'd recommend Ever17, Fate Stay Night, Utawarerumono, Kanon, Clannad... Those are the best I can think of off the top of my head.
It's okay for me.
If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.^^ Add Ef A Fairy Tale Of The Two and Kira Kira to that.
^^^ Are you actually looking for something with a similar plot to Amagami SS, or just any visual novel, based on the fact that you like the alternate girl routes format?
^More like Amagami SS in general. Sorry if I am annoying.
^^^ I will have to check them out in a few days when i get my comp working was asking now because I was bored and on my phone

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!That's quite specific. From the six VNs I played, Kira Kira would be the closest, though even that is more like K-on meets Beck but with your ordinary harem character archetypes as band members. And it somehow ends up being good.
And don't play Kirari's route first. Seriously, Don't.

What did you hate about it?
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.I'd really rather it not have any sex scenes.
Yes, this is it, an ulti-thread that debates everything pertaining to visual novels in general.
Now... post with MUCH JUSTICE!
