Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

After doing a reread, yeah, [tdown] to Whitehead.

Now, for my next proposal.

What is the work?

Willcraft animations is the YouTuber responsible for the creation of the Monster School series, which is enormously popular and has spawned its own genre.

The work we are looking at here is Minecraft Endventures, which focuses on the adventures of Colin and his battle pig, Porkey, as Endermen invade the Overworld. They encounter Red, a human scientist, and Shadow, a ninja. They get caught up in the war between the human rebels and the Endermaster. It starts out decent and got much better as time went on, but hasn't been updated in a while.

Our candidate? An Enderman, Captain Wrecker.

Who is he and what has he done?

Captain Wrecker is a soldier in the Endmaster's army, and is a very competent one at that, unlike Endreai, the overall commander at the start. Introduced in episode 6 leading a group of four Endermen, they chase down and devour a human, with Wrecker remarking it was their third human tonight. Appearantly, the Endmaster set the difficulty to hard.

When Colin and Red accidentally reveal their presence, Wrecker and his crew chase them down, with Wrecker demonstrating great strength by busting down the wall they are hiding behind, his strength being why he is called Wrecker, and ordering his men to feast on Colin, Red and Porkey. They are only saved thanks to the intervention of Shadow, who, thanks to a potion made by the Endermaster, can turn into an Enderman.

His next villainous act comes when Colin and co, now with the skeleton Click-Clack and the zombie, Nobraynes, hijack the Enderman's ship to reach the human city in the middle of the ocean. Suspecting something is up, in contrast to Endreai, Wrecker snuck on board, and as Red is sleeping, he tries to kill him and came very close, singing a twisted lullaby as he did so. Red is only saved by the intervention of Click-Clack and Shadow.

After Endreai screws up and is "fired", Wrecker is made the new general, and manages to make his way to the human city, leading the Endermen in an all out attack upon it, using TNT which ends up destroying the city and the deaths of many humans. To counter the humans use of water, he has them use blocks from the fortress, and beats an Enderman under his command who questioned the order for clarification. Wrecker is a complete sadist I might add. During the battle, he takes flint and steel off a human to ignite the TNT, and then burns him alive. As the humans try to flee the island, Wrecker begins picking some of them off, throwing blocks as they try to swim away.

Wrecker encounters the human leader, whose wife and child he had killed beforehand. Needing a weapon, he demands an Enderman give him an Endblade, as he lost his own. When he refuses, he takes it off him and decapitated him. After defeating the human leader, whom he enjoyed taunting, Wrecker reveals his twisted ideology before killing him, believing that killing others increases his own value as a living being and makes him stronger. Basically, he believes that everyone he kills and everyone they killed, and so on and so forth, will serve him in the afterlife. He takes glee in telling the human leader how he enjoys the idea of using his dead family as slaves, abusing them while the human leader must adore and praise him the whole time.

Heinousness?

Compared to the other antagonists?

Well, the Endermaster is an interesting example. He just wants to go home, but he was twisted and corrupted by Herobrine to be evil, so he interprets going home as conquering it. His moral agency is in question, and he does love his adopted daughter, the Enderdragon, even though he is strict with her. Captain, well, General Wrecker has genuine loyalty to him as well, but let's be honest, that doesn't say much and isn't enough of a redeeming quality for him.

Endreai was an idiot and comedic. He was entertaining. But doesn't hold a candle to Wrecker's sadism.

In a series that started out dark yet still light-hearted, Wrecker is a Knight of Cerebus who makes the whole series much darker with his presence and actions.

The eating humans seems to be an Enderman thing, though.

Migating Factors?

No Freudian excuse with this guy. He's a Blood Knight Social Darwinist who is content to simply kill others while serving the Endmaster.

Conclusion

Well, given none of the other antagonists can really match this guy's sheer sadism, [tup] from me. A real keeper this guy.

Anyone want a link to Endventures to see for yourself?

[up] How's the fanfic btw. Is it a good one or is it just a pointless grimdark fanfic?

"and he does love his adopted daughter."

How genuine is this? Because if he truly does care for her, then I gotta [tdown] Captain Wrecker.

And gotta switch to [tdown] for Whitehead.

I'll [tup] Ayria though.

Annual Hela tally again! 26 [tup], 12 [tdown], 4 abstain.

[up][up]It's very good. Though, it is set to get darker as things go on, but not dark for the sake of being dark overall.

[up]Shoot, should fix the wording. Wrecker doesn't have a daughter, the Endermaster does! I better fix that.

Wrecker doesn't feel love for anything other than killing.

Hi so I just wanted to ask about Pat Bateman and his status. Isn't it made clear in the novel that he cannot bring himself to rape, seduce, or kill her as well?

It's...not really morality. He just finds her interesting as she's the only person who isn't shallow.

Is Minecraft really a work that can have a CM?

[up][up]It's a Minecraft fan work, I should add. However, it is much darker than the source material, and Wrecker is a Knight of Cerebus, as mentioned.

I believe it’s possible for Minecraft to have a CM. I mean there is a story mode based in the world of Minecraft.

Though if the Minecraft fanwork recieves a CM before the actual game I wonder if it’s possible for a South Park fanwork to receive a CM even if the actual show cannot?

I'll give Wrecker a [tup] but I can't see a South Park fanfic having one, lest it basically rewrite the universe with its own story, a la There Will be Brawl. Mine Craft doesn't have a Complete Monster but it sounds like the story mode is conducive to having one while South Park canon absolutely is not.

[tup] Wrecker. And there is no way South Park will ever have a genuine CM, either in canon or fan works. The heinous standard is just way too jacked up.

Yes to Ayria, Wrecker, and Jack (Though I really, REALLY think this is a work that feels incredibly tasteless. Pretty much the only nosleep story that I like with a candidate proposed here was the stalker from Penpal).

And I've been mainly staying off this thread so I don't get spoiled by any inevitable spoiler bombs being dropped for Ultra Sun and Moon's baddies (And let's face it, it WILL happen), so pardon me if it's been acknowledged. But I think it's funny that Hela, who I personally consider to be on the blander side of the Complete Monster scale (She's basically to me what Ronan is to like, 85% of this thread's users) is sparking way more debate than a villain as complex as Ego ever did.

"Fun" fact: despite his atrocities, Ayria was buried will full honors as a Green Lantern and made a cameo among the various Lantern stiffs that rose during Blackest Night.

The Guardians of the Universe are dicks as usual.
