During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

For the record, I'm voting no on Syndrome. I'm voting at all under protest, but the odds of this being repeated seem lower if it doesn't lead to his qualification.
ACW when ya can and have the time, please watch the film and cast a vote.
We don't need to tell anyone to do that.
Admins have asked me to do that before on villains wiki if I could, since i happen to be an admin on there myself. I just really trust the guy and would like to know what he thinks.

This isn't villains wiki. Please do not suggest for some to read/watch something just to cast a vote.
I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.We are not the Villains Wiki.
ACW's actually pretty busy anyway, so he probably won't be able to watch the film anytime soon. Regardless, let's all take some time to cool down and, for those of use who haven't already, maybe check out PhiSat's latest proposals a few pages back.

WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!Ok sorry. Won't happen again.

Syndrome. He's clearly lacking in heinous standard.
This is an in general thing, not just for zcooper, but for literally years, villains wiki had a little kid who's crimes were bullying a girl and killing a puppy for fun as a CM...I take that as a sign that we shouldn't ever bring up villains wiki to make arguments.

We've actually removed him.
I'm aware of that. I put it in past tense.
edited 27th Jun '16 2:41:54 PM by Awesomekid42
And that changes... what exactly? You still had him on there in the first oplace, which shows that, unless it has improved, it's not the best resource.
jjjIt's not a resource this site should take into account. Let's just end it there, since this is unnecessary drama.
Was that towards me? Because I had nothing to do with Tomoo being on there, and from the way it's typed, it looks like it should be said for people who contribute to the villains wiki.
Agreed. Discussing about this is pretty pointless.

For God's sake. This thread, in the past weekend, has avoided talking about two CM candidates in favor of blatantly ignoring long-standing rules about Never Again and talking about quotes. Mods SHOULD BE coming in here to put things back on track, and the blatant pressuring and pushing from the pro-Syndrome camp is absurd.
I am unequivocally voting on Syndrome, in case anyone couldn't guess, bc he's less heinous than the villain from the balloon movie, his willingness to off Mirage is outdone in heinousness by THE HERO OF THE FILM STRANGLING HER ONSCREEN, his big plan is omnicidal robot and not anything going beyond Generic Doomsday Villain, superhero death is repeatedly treated for laughs in the film, he doesn't bring any harm to Kari the babysitter when he could have, and Syndrome is, in general, pathetic, not heinous. There is a huge difference.
Alright, I think it's high time I take a nice, loooooooong break from this site for a while. The atmosphere as of recently is just too toxic and ugly for me to really want to deal with anymore.

@Largo
I'm not defending how two candidates were completely overlooked, but it's not ignoring Syndrome being on the never again list. It's giving a rebuttal to the reasons why he's on the never again list. The same thing happened for Scar.
On the subject about Syndrome's heinousness though, I'm having more and more doubts about the omni-droid on the city bit. When Edna is lecturing Bob about no capes, we see a flashback of a villain being stopped by Thunder Head (who was killed because of his cape). Said villain planned on firing a missile on a city with very clear intentions of destroying it. And that entire bit is played for laughs. So yeah, it seems that endangering cities and civilians isn't anything special for Syndrome.

to Hagen, sure he's not as bad, but is a question of resources and type of villain. As an abusive parent and xenophobe he still goes above and beyond the norm: he repeatedly mutilates his own daughter until the point she irreparably injured purely out of bigotry. That coupled murdering his wife, trying to kill two defenceless refugees out of hatred and being generally awful. Clinches him for me.
Also to Wofstar Sunsoar and Syndrome.
I'm personally looking forward to hearing these other three candidates PhilSat mentioned. Its not that often you hear about so many from one franchise so quickly.

Is comparing Syndrome's actions to one-second flashback gags really fair?
Why so serious? The fact that his attack on the city doesn't have as heinous intentions as the villain from said gag makes me severely doubt that the action stands out in terms of heinousness within the universe.
Just to reiterate my point earlier: I think Wolfstar is a clear yes, but for the other example I need to see the other three proposed.
I'm not even reading that discussion. for Syndrome, if only because people openly disregarded the rules to force a new vote.
for Wolfstar, unsure about Hagen.

@Awesomekid42: That's the point. People have been sitting here "discussing" Syndrome for five fucking pages and forgot about two actual candidates PhiSat proposed, one of whom might be a keeper.
