When it's using names like "the clock tower" or "the colosseum"?
I have a message from another time...To be fair, the cheese is just a side-effect of the ham, in the case of Castlevania. Yeah it's supposed to suggest grandeur and rich atmosphere, but it's also supposed to be at least taken half-seriously.
To be fair, if you're a Castlevania fan, just mentioning the clock tower will cause you to break into a cold sweat.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatApparently, this is still being worked on, and here's a very recent video:
Alucard: "Uh... did a boss fight just happen? I was still waiting for the music to cue."
Well, finally managed to do it. I beat Richter Belmont. Symphony of the Night clear at 80.whatever percent.
1. Not wearing the glasses. 2. Wearing the glasses and killing him. 3. Wearing the glasses and doing it properly.
The outcome I had was either 1 or 2, since I don't recall if I had the glasses or not. I don't think I had them, so I probably killed him without the glasses.

Symphony of the Night isn't clear until you've got it beaten at 200.6%
this place needs me hereNot sure I'm hardcore enough to go that far, honestly.
If the game just ended, yes, it's just 1.
I highly recommend that you go get the glasses and fight him again because you are literally missing out on half of the game.
At the very least, you should try doing as wehrmacht says. It is very much worth it.
this place needs me hereActually, 200.6% is just exploring all the rooms.
(Including a few difficult-toget squares that you need form of wolf to get, in the inverted watery caverns.)
Yeah, you should definitely use the glasses. You're really only halfway through the game. There's a whole other identical but completely different castle to explore.

All three other endings get, culminating with the Golden Ending at 195.whatever percent.
Maybe I'll do one of the DS games next....

Go for Portrait, its great fun
Portrait of Ruin it is, then.
I recommend Harmony of Dissonance (GBA), Aria of Sorrow (GBA), and Order of Ecclesia (DS).
Harmony is good for the sense of atmosphere, especially a feeling of being stuck in a maze (narratively and gameplay-wise). Aria tells an interesting story, which its sequel Dawn of Sorrow tries to do but fails (despite having better gameplay), and Order of Ecclesia takes its story as seriously as its gameplay (though it takes some buildup time).
Circle has great music and huge areas but the controls are a bit stiff. Dawn has nice gameplay but sometimes feels a bit gimmicky. Portrait also feels kinda gimmicky (and grindy if you're a completionist), and feels like it should have been expanded further, though I think it has slightly better music than Dawn.

So i just bought mirror of fate HD.
i'll admit that despite it not being all that great as a game, i actually really liked lords of shadow. i feel mercurysteam's attempt at storytelling went a lot better than i expected (not great, necessarily, but i liked the plot and characters enough, especially gabriel), the music was excellent, and the art direction was fantastic. granted, part of this is probably because i am a huge sucker for dark fantasy (with the souls series and nier being some of my favorite games ever), but whatever. and this is coming from someone who loves symphony of the night, ecclesia, super castlevania iv, rondo of blood, aria of sorrow, etc. i'm not sure that taking the reboot in the direction they did was for the best, but i enjoy it for what it is as a guilty pleasure.
i already know most of the key twists since i was originally not planning on playing it, but i recently went to go listen to lords of shadow's 2 ost and i kind of want to finish the rest of this subfranchise. seriously, it's not michiru yamane but damn this soundtrack is powerful.

Wii U Virtual Console is very good this month. We had Dracula X (SNES) last week and now we have Circle and Dissonance!
Oh cool Circle AND Vampire's Kiss. Blegh on Dissonance tho.
Hey have they got good ol' Rondo on there yet?
FTFY
Dissonance has a lovely chiptune soundtrack (despite what everyone wants you to believe), but it's entire presentation is just bleh, to me. And the Belmont/ Alucard fusion dance that is Juste makes no sense to me.
As for Dracula X... Ugh. It could have been a lot better, i think. Even with the memory constraints.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Can anyone who does speedrunning comment on what relevance the Master Ring has in Portrait of Ruin speedrunning?
I'm watching this speedrun and I noticed the person buying two Master Rings then immediately selling them back.
Question:
Boss doors?
or just silence upon entry?
. . . . I'm starting to think I kinda prefer silence.

Either way both of them are signs that you need to be prepared.
As for the Master Rings tihng, no damn idea but the US Portrait of Ruin is pretty bugged so...
This is Castlevania we're talking about. How can it NOT be so cheesy as to make you shit pepperjack?
