Anakin is a complete mismatch for me. Just trust me on that. Luke's also a pretty bad fit for me. Wedge? Better, but still not good. Han? Maybe his characterizations in the later films, but definitely not his style in his first appearance.

It's been a while since I saw The Great Escape, but I'd say Plumbum fits well as a substitute for Steve McQueen.
