Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form
to send a message to "The Staff".

Was my old account reset? If that's the case, I'd like to know how I go about changing the email address on file for my current account. I appear to be able to add an email, which I did a moment ago, but not change the main one on file. The one I originally used for this account is the one I want to use for my old account.

Hmm, I am still having trouble logging in under my old handle, I guess its fine, I could just continue with this new one.

Hmm, therein lies the problem. I just tried creating a new account with the handle of "Diabman", and it said "This handle is already in use. Please choose another." So I know something is wrong; no password I get works. Should I go to the bugs thread instead, perhaps?
I'd link a gif to show that it isn't recognized, but I can't do that here, apparently.

It means that I delete the account from the database. You then need to Get Known on that name again.

So, I asked if there was another way of me proving who I am and I didn't get an answer, is there anything I can do? I have also moved house recently, not sure if that explains the address change, I don't know how the internet works too well.

There is no way that I can use to verify that you are the same person. Maybe one of the admins can, though; I think they are very busy at the moment.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. I don't have any other emails I can attach to my account. There's the one that should've been on my original Scabex615 account, which is prophetparadox615@gmail.com, and my professional email account that I used to make this one. If a different account was made using the first email, which is what I'm being told when I try to remake Scabex615, then I don't remember making it. If it's possible I'd like it to be deleted so I can use my old account name again.
You need to find a new email address if you can't use an older ones when recreating the Scabex account. Or ask an admin to reset such an older one.

Okay, that's...really bizarre. I don't mean to continue to pester about this issue, and it's not a huge deal, but now I'm more curious to what actually happened. I still can't log in nor confirm that account, and I know I'm not insane. If it's not in the system, it's not in the system, but this is weird.
Also, there's this since I looked at the markups and know how to properly link images.

I can just make another account if this can't be recovered, but I figure this is worth at least figuring out the reason why it happened since it's so odd.

Yeah, you need to ask an admin for assistance. The moderator tools don't reveal any account by that name.

so i had to make a new account just to post here (all the methods provided by the whole "help me" thing for getting back passwords, etc., was completely circular). i want to get my old account back in use (mainly for consistency) so i of course need to reset my password. any help on this?
(for a bit of context, my new account is named identically to my last one except for the _ in the middle)

i understand the IP address overlap thing, but i'd still like to get my old account back. who do i talk to to request a password reset being sent to my regular email account? (like i said before, the process was entirely circular, at least it was for me—it said something to the effect of having to be sent to my email address, which i had to enter but it doesn't recognize anymore. the site doesn't recognize ANY of my old log-in information)
