Speculative fiction!
USA collapses and North Korea begins unstoppable world conquest.
How they managed to overcome a logistical sheer cliff in conquering South Korea is probably an ass pull (or a handwave at worst).
Definately an 'alternate universe timeline' plot then, maybe where the NK not only manages to beat the South during the Korean war, and also overthrow China or something afterwards. Only way I can imagine that happening.
Well, I remember seeing arguments that North Koreans were used as bad guys in Crysis because the developers wanted to create the effect of using Chinese bad guys without actually using them. Maybe this is the same deal.
That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something AwfulThis isn't an alternate timeline, this is about a near-future North Korea conquering South Korea, then using South Korea's resources to conquer the world.
Well, north Korea is currently the "strongest" nation that outright hates us (Not like people thinking of us as [[Eagleland]] flavor 2, but real hatred). Because an invasion by Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afganistan, or any other middle eastern country (our other enemies) is even more implausible (Considering how Israel beat them all in six days). And China doesn't really hate the US all too much (they're probably happy we keep borrowing money from them) and the Soviet Union has already collapsed. So, North Korea it is, so let's roll with it. Frankly, as a member of a family that was actually harmed by Communism (parents grew up in China), I really can't wait to at least try out this game.
I'm not even sure North Korea would count. From what I've heard, their millitary is a bunch of 70's soviet crap that would get slaughtered instantly by American airpower.
Popes for the Pope's throne!Has this entered any alternate history tropes yet? I also think it is supposed to bring up old U.S. fears like the Yellow Peril. And does anyone think that Japan is becoming the new Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey in this scenario where it surrenders pretty quickly (or maybe the trailer just shortened it so it won't take too long)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5yyWZ2Z6Ps&feature=channel?
I wouldn't underestimate North Korea just yet. They may be led by a megalomaniacal dictator who likes to present himself as North Korea's version of Superman, but look at the state Germany was in after the first World War. No one could have expected it to gradually climb back up the poverty ladder and be responsible for another World War that could have threatened the existence of nearby European countries like France and Britain (and of course America, after it got it's but off the chair when they realized shit just got serious). I mean, who knows, after the war with the middle east, the U.S. might take another no interference policy while nearby Asian countries ignore North Korea, who may eventually gain enough power until they strike when they least expect it.
Well, if there were complete monsters in the series, here's how it would be like.: The Korean People's Army is an army of metaphorical Complete Monsters (since in real life, they are. Metaphorical means that the complete monster is part of a group that's compared to pure evil in real life, such as the Nazis, the KKK, etc.). To elaborate, one of the first scenes in the game involves two KPA soldiers killing a woman and man with their child being forced to watch it. And it's heavily implied that they killed the child too.
- Still haven't hate them yet, wait till they find the resistance hideout, Oasis, and kill every man, woman, and child.
- If it's still not enough, the KPA gun down everyone and burn the entire town of Montrose after your actions against them.
- Not to mention the landfill of corpses they had
I also would pretty much change Homefront's Nightmare Fuel from normal to High Octane Nightmare Fuel, ditto with Call of Duty, and give it a laconic (Red Dawn: The Video Game or From Bad To Worse: The Video Game)

Ok, why are you even bothering to Necro this thread? It's been dead for almost a year now!
^ 2 years...
Still, any news on the 2nd game?
Give me cute or give me...something?Korea doesn't have the force projection to effectively field an occupying force in the United States! I call shenanigans on the premise of this game.
Well, ithe story goes that they were originally Chinese and not Korean, but it was decided that was racist. *eyeroll*
AKA, it's still racist but the Koreans are the new Russians so it's all mitigated.

This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet. No, the actual reason was because they were hoping to sell some copies in China or SE Asia. Trying to villianize them in any way would cause the government to immediately ban the game.
I know, but it won't stop me from nitpicking.
Of course, money. *smacks head*
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.Latest on the sequel is here:

Bit of thread necromancy... but some video of the sequel is out, looking actually pretty good. Bets on how long til Fox news say its a terrorism trainer?
Looks like they're taking a farcry approach to reclaiming territory and progression. Could be interesting, with a more urban environment. Infiltration being interesting and key as well.
The story seems to be unrelated to the previous game. Apparently this version of North Korea somehow managed to become a tech giant over the years, surpassing the U.S, South Korea, Japan, China, etc in designs ranging from smartphones, computers, and even military tech. That allowed them to gradually sabotage our military and infrastructure by creating built-in digital backdoors, which they one day take advantage of and shut down the U.S. overnight. Afterwards, the invasion of the states goes by with little effort since almost all of our weapons had " Made in Best Korea" on them.
...Yeah, it's not a very plausible plotline. At all.

true, but I think it's supposed to be "China" but die to obvious various political reasons, they went with a "Politically correct" version. It's no more implausible than half the COD-BLOPS PMC invades the USA or Terrorists convince Russia to occupy New York.
I mean, it's unlikely Japan could've conquered half the USA along with Germany and occupied it wholesale, but then The Man in The High Castle does that.
Either way, as a game it looks to be rather interesting and I think moving it away from the original could be a good thing.
What's interesting is the lack of Pv P multiplayer. They've wizened up to the fact that they probably won't ever be able to win over the Co D crowd and are instead making the multiplayer co-op only. Looks pretty fun too, since the co-op maps are designed to encourage different approaches and replays, while at the same time requiring some coordination similar to the online heists from GTA V.
It also brings the mind of "you're part of a resistance cell" into Gameplay and Story Integration.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.So, bit of alt history to explain why NK is so much more capable. CLEARLY a China expy still. But at least they've put some thought into the premise. And some interesting parallels on the whole lend lease thing!

In short, the US collapses and North Korea suddenly begins to steamroll the world.
Now I do like stories about a speculative future war, but seriously North Korea?
I'm sure a war with Turkey is even more plausible than what the plot of this game. But then again I shouldn't complain too much about things I haven't played.
