This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

As a certain Jedi Master once said: "Do, or do not. There is no try."
If you cannot write acceptably, you will not be allowed to edit. That is not negotiable. You may post, in this forum thread, edits you would like to make on the wiki. If you demonstrate consistent improvement, we may remove your suspension.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"What do I do to get unsuspended now?
Oh, I believe in yesterdayUpdate on my status? What's the verdict?
~Segal, your suspension is being released. However, take the last couple of exchanges to heart. You looked for context and didn't find anyway. Take this attitude when making live edits, or else you're just going to end up back here again.
~nirao01, depends. Do you understand why adding commented-out ZCEs is not appropriate behavior?
Nombretomado: Yes. I actually said it two posts ago.

Again, apologies for the lapse in editing judgment. I swear you will never have to worry about that from me ever again. As always thanks for listening.
~nirao01, you're released. Thanks for coming in.
Sorry for the delay in response. We need to ensure that if/when your suspension is released, you know what to do. You must use edit reasons when removing something, or else it spawns an edit war. If you find someone is disputing your edit, you need to talk it out over the discussion page, PM them, or take it to Ask the Tropers to get others' opinions. Understood?
You also need to change your handle, scaredinmate. The hash mark in it causes problems.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Sorry, but can I ask why was I suspended for editing? I'm surprised since I was sure I was following the rules but I guess I did something wrong here?

~Rose Bride: Your suspension is for grammar issues (I checked through the last 10 or 11 pages you worked on and almost every edit you made has at least one glaring problem) and Example Indentation problems.
@Willbry
Oh I see, grammar it's indeed an issue of mine mostly because I'm not a native English speaker; I would like to edit again please and promise to be more careful in the future.

~Deadbeatloser Um..I know the gist of my previous conversation and I remember that before I left I did say that I would be taking some time away and would come back to ask for my editing previleges back. So, linking my previous conversation from two years ago really wasn't neccessary.
~Fighteer I disagree that I "dumped whatever I felt like" in it, but rather I was confused by the definition of Adaptation Decay provided and thought it could refer to the characters as well as the world and since the character I was talking about (Donald Duck) has been started out as a Silly Symphony side character and since then has been portrayed in many different media (different TV shows, different video games, different comics, etc.) and each one with a different personality and even physical portrayal of him; I thought that, at the time, it fit. Now I know that it doesn't.
But maybe the definition of Adaptation Decay could be clearer in the future? Does that trope only refer to the entire world in general?
The definition on the trope page did say "The gradual distortion or even disintegration of a world and its characters during its odyssey from original source material to movie to TV movie then to television series then to video game and finally to licensed derivative work." I thought Donald Duck from Silly Symphony side character to classics Disney animation to then in Kingdom Hearts was an example of that. Sorry if I misunderstood, but I did think it through and looked at the definition before trying to add my example there.
Also, although I'm starting to understand that not everything is a trope, even this site admits that there are non-tropes that are still mentioned and even get their own webpages here. And what constitutes one trope or non-trope worthy of mention is largely a matter of opinion. So while I accept that my example should not have been included in Adaptation Decay, I disagree that it doesn't fit as a trope at all. There are plenty of examples of characters that undergo physical and personality changes as they get used by various media sources, and usually those changes are more negative than positive. And whether those examples are off shoots of Flanderization, or Character Exaggeration, (and yet I noticed that both are themselves categorized as signs of Adaptation Decay here); it's my opinion that those examples I used of that character does qualify as a trope, even if not that particular one.
But anyway...I'm willing to run by "Ask the Tropers" or another resource the next time I feel that I might be confused over an example of a certain trope.

~Rose Bride: Grammar errors are understandable for our ESL tropers, but they create problems for the people who have to clean up afterward, and it can't be allowed to continue. For the next month or so, you'll need to post all your edits in the Get Help with English thread so you can get some pointers. If the folks who help out in there think you've improved sufficiently, check back in here and we can talk about releasing you.
OK, so how do I change my handle?
You can't, not with our current system...you'll have to create a new account.
Okay, so few weeks ago I was banned from YKTTW with no warning, but I was still able to edit regular pages. So I take at least a week and a half off of the sight, and when I come back, I find that I have been banned from virtually EVERYTHING! I'm not sure what specific things I was banned for and odds are after this, I won't ever go near YKTTW ever again. That said, I have been told that this is temporary (or at least it should). When will I be able to get my account privileges back?
~Erebus Elysium: You were banned from the Trope Launch Pad for spamming the system with junk tropes related to associating colours with heroic traits. We subsequently caught an account made from the same IP address not long after you were suspended going through and mass-launching and discarding TLP entries.
"Yup. That tasted purple."~Deadbeatloser: I don't know anything about any other IP Address, but whoever that was it wasn't me. No one else in my house really uses TV Tropes so I don't know what that's about. I'll accept being banned from the Launch Pad, but being banned from everything else is just obnoxiously obtrusive.
Also, I'm responding through the forum because I was also blocked from my own inbox.
Erebus, you received a Trope Launch Pad ban on January 31. About 10 days later, an account was made on the same IP that you last used, which immediately started doing exactly the same thing in TLP. It also began editing the wiki in precisely the same way you do.
Pull the other one, it makes funny noises.
You flagrantly, intentionally broke our rules, then ban evaded rather than face the consequences. You're done.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I would like to edit again. Can you lift the suspension?
Hello. It seems I have been suspended again, and would like to know why. :-)
Goodie. i have to do this again!
"Now, i'll try to have...... at least half-decent grammar. In case decent is enough to keep me from being suspended."
I said a few days ago. I'm trying to be polite. But neglecting one of your many users is unnaceptable.
