This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

@Fighteer: I'm sorry if I misunderstand something, but password padlock with 3-4 columns and 3 elements, with solution in a few yards of it is an actual fact, and not just my opinion, unless you think this is a fair challenge for a game rated M. And about natter I sent you... I thought maybe 'send message' button would let me to input my own message (silly me).

We aren't here to debate the merits of the game, but if you insist, I happen to know Word of God on the matter is that the puzzle locks are designed to keep the Draugr in, not to keep serious explorers out. Plus, even a three-by-three puzzle lock has twenty seven possible combinations and nobody in their right mind is going to sit there trying them one by one while poison darts shoot at them.

You're taking the situation out of context and considering it only on the merits of your little narrow viewpoint. That's not a healthy way to approach editing the wiki.

I believe I have been unfairly banned for posts I made on comments of a review of Confused Matthew. A user named Awesomesauce made a post: "People are actually defending Confused Matthew? That is hilarious." I told him to fuck off. Then a user named Tomwithnonumbers made fun of how I had edited my post and re-posted it, and was very rude and condescending to me. And when I responded appropriately, I was blocked. Why?

I would have been polite to him if he had not mocked my editing and been condescending.

I added an example to the MTG gameplay tropes, and someone kept removing it without good reason, perhaps out of stubborness. Then I am the one getting banned from editing. I fail to see how this is just.

If you are able to check my entire editing history (of the entire site) you'll see that I have been contributing to the site for a fairly long time, and I'm not a troll or wikivandal.

But fine. If a site admin says that I cannot add said example to that particular page, then I'll comply. I still don't understand why, but whatever. I would still like to be able to edit other pages, though.

@Toxin 45: No-one has tried to apply Five Bad Band to them. You also ignored a clearly posted warning not to insert said trope and edit warred over it.

@Munchable: "I told him to fuck off." That was your first mistake. You repeatedly attacked other commenters on the review under the pretence that getting attacked first makes it right for you to do it back.

@Toxin: This is the second time you've been suspended for putting invalid examples in Five Bad Band. You clearly don't get what the tropes are supposed to be about. We're not going to let you loose to keep screwing around with them. It also doesn't help that your grammar continues to be substandard. Do you have any reason why your ban should not be made permanent — if so I'd like to hear it.

@Warp: Readding an example when it's been removed with an edit reason is Edit Warring. It's against the site's rules. The other tropers were following them, and you were not. Simple. Follow the rules and we don't have to suspend you.

I already said I will comply. I will not be adding that example to that page anymore.

I also understand that request this page is not for complaining about site policies, so I won't do that here either.

Warp, let's talk a bit more.

Here is the problem: when a contested example is on the discussion page, you are expected to leave it there until you can reach a consensus with other tropers. Based on what I see there, there was no such thing. You were arguing for its inclusion, Troacctid was arguing against it, and the third person involved was yet undecided. In this case, you cannot readd the contested part, as you're continuing the Edit War if you do.

If you need further input because the discussion has reached a stalemate, you can go to Ask The Tropers or post in the relevant forum thread.

As I commented there, I waited for what I thought was a pretty reasonable amount of time, and since there was only one person opposing the addition of the example for reasons I do not find valid, I came to the conclusion that he was just opposing the addition of the example out of stubbornness. Nobody else seemed to oppose the example, and hence I went and added the example again.

I think that taking automatically the side of the person who removes someone else's examples just because he puts some excuses into the edits, while the person who restores the examples does not, is bound to abuse.

I think this whole fight is seriously overblown. It was one single example among several hundreds in that page, and it was certainly a lot more relevant than many, many other examples in other pages (and, I'm sure, in that very same page). If nothing else, the standards of quality imposed by editors is highly inconsistent, when some good examples are removed for really nitpicky reasons, while blatant nattery is rampant in other places.

I will not add that example to that page anymore, so you can safely restore my editing rights. He can have his victory.

Oh, my gosh why have I been banned? What have I done wrong? All I did is simply editing pages too quickly. Okay, I will stop. Can you please restore my editing privileges?

I promise, that I will not tell people what they can and cannot talk about. I will just participate and I will contribute and I will not be editing until I will get a consensus.

@Warp, you are not getting the message. We don't care about that example; we care that you're following the rules of debate. A contested example needs to be discussed, not added back ad infinitum. The existence of other bad examples does not mean your bad example gets a free ride; it means that someone needs to clean up the article. This is a wiki; it operates by consensus, not by fiat (unless it's admin fiat, but that's a different topic).

That we are having to explain this to you is ample proof that your suspension was warranted. The question now is whether you will play by the rules in the future — not just on this particular article but everywhere.

@Krystoff: We have received multiple complaints that you are poisoning the CM evaluation process by jumping the gun. Not only that but you are attempting to dictate the terms of debate. I'm not sure what your issue is with this, but you seem to have a notion that there's a strict time constraint to the process. Everything must be rushed to completion, regardless of whether it's been sufficiently weighed. Nothing is to be added to the debate until we've resolved all prior issues. You've been told repeatedly that this is unacceptable and yet you persist.

Are you capable of stopping this behavior pattern and playing well with others? If not, then we have no choice but to ban you from the process, and if that means removing your wiki privileges, that's what's going to happen, since we haven't built and have no intention of building namespace-specific bans.

Of course I will follow the rule in the future.

Could you, however, explain to me why it's ok to repeatedly remove an example ad infinitum, but not to restore it. Why am I the one being punished? Why the unilateral policy?

(Maybe it's just me, but repeatedly removing someone's valid example in my opinion constitutes wikivandalism. But apparently that's ok as long as you write an excuse in the edit reason textfield?)

Two other tropers thought it was not a valid example. Looking at it, I do not think it was a valid example. The mods who've been discussing your case (with faces firmly in hand) do not think it was a valid example. Are you getting this? Your posts on the discussion page are nothing more than providing a rationale for your continued adding of that bad example, which others have repeatedly told you was bad.

I really don't think you get it at all. I think this suspension is going to stick for a while. Indefinitely, until you start showing some signs of understanding why we are not doing this just to spite you.

One person's bad behavior does not justify yours, nor should you escalate if someone attacks you. Further, what happened to them or did not happen to them is none of your business.

It means that the person in question is speaking as a mod, as opposed to a normal poster. We don't always remember to turn it on in this thread, however, especially after the initial contact with a person.

Alright, even though you usually don't offer third chances, I would like to ask that my editing privileges be returned. It's got to do with the deleting of the Narm in the YMMV section of The Dark Knight Rises, and the reason I did it was because I found the examples to be underdetailed as to why they counted as Narm (ex. the star-spangled banner scene). That, and I was having a bad day, so I wasn't really thinking clearly at the time. But, I've learned my lesson and if you do decide to return my editing privileges, then I won't do anything like that again. Oh, and I'm sorry if I'm starting to come off as a nuisance to you or anything.
