I have had latent tendencies since I was about five, at which time I fancied that I had a phantom snout like a wolf or a crocodile—I was odd—but I didn't really start thinking of myself that way until after my boyfriend and I got together about a year and a half ago. But then, I had been working on a story with a cast entirely composed of anthropomorphic animals and imaginary beasts for almost five years at that point...

The beginning for me was Wolf Link. Then everything went "downhill". xD I was completely unaware that something like furries existed way back then, though.

I blame the cartoons I grew up with mostly. Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, and the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon (especially the last one), as well as Lola Bunny from Space Jam. And then Pokemon and Digimon. In fact, I first came across the concept of furry in late 2001 when I was looking for Pokemon fan art. To be honest, I'd be shocked if the animation industry didn't have furries in it.

For me, it started out with Animal Crossing. I had a serious crush on the NPC villager, Blaire. Then I went to Deviantart to look for fan art... hardly any, so I had to start looking for other characters, too. Then I just went "screw it" and started searching "nude furry" and several variations thereof after I stopped denying what I really wanted to see.. Then one of the images' descriptions linked to the same image on Furaffinity, and I haven't been able to get over my adult furry pic addiction since.

...I'm lonely, okay?

I heard someone mention lewd furries and came a-running!

Heh, I actually just saw the thread in the New Posts list and figured I might as well try to get into the groove here. I was wondering what you even talk about here, but hey, this is actually a subject I can contribute to!

I think it really started for me when I started regularly going online and met my first online girlfriend at a Jazz Jackrabbit 2 forum (we lasted a week or two). She was a complete furry, and I liked her fursona and wanted something like that for myself, too, so I... made something like that for myself. And built a whole Mary-Sue RPG universe around it.

I stopped considering myself a furry at some point because while it's not quite true that I got into it because a friend was into it, I think I lack the "spiritual" aspect of being a real furry, and so I slowly stopped associating myself with my fursona besides still carrying the name. I'm still very much interested in furries, though, mostly by virtue of my more general fascination for interesting- and weird-looking humanoid designs. Monster girls, for one thing, or even Pokemon, where even a lot of the animal-like creatures are still subtly anthropomorphized.

I hope that soon enough I'll be able to really get my ass in gear and start working on an innocent webcomic about my not-quite-fursona Pascal, and a much less innocent NSFW Tumblr.

[up]"Spiritual" aspect? I think you're getting furries mixed up with Otherkin.

Eh, there's a reason I put it in quotes. Calling it "spiritual" is a little much. But I've always been pretty wary of calling myself an anything if I'm not in it with all my heart, so-to-speak? I like a lot of furries, and the definition of "furry" in the sense of describinga person can be as loose as "someone who likes furries", but I feel like actually calling myself "a furry" is a commitment I'm not ready to make because it doesn't feel like a sufficiently defining aspect of my being.

... It's a quirk of mine, I guess. My perception might also be colored a little by the fact that the first two furries I met who got me into it were the extreme kind who like to act like animals and refer to their hands as "paws" and whatnot. I know not every furry is like that, but I still feel like it takes a certain kind of mindset that I don't quite have to create a fantastic creature and say "yeah, this is me, I feel comfortable identifying myself as this creature".

For the record, I actually consider that a weakness of mine.

I'm actually pretty estranged from my own fursona as well lately.

Which is kind of awkward considering that his name is my username on half the sites I go to, including here.

I'm a lion because I like lions. I'm a furry because I grew up in the nineties. I use this name all over the place as well, even the Baristas at my Starbucks call me lance. (I used that instead of my given name because it's common and kind of boring)

I've been a furry since middleschool when Digimon came out and a character ended up turning into one. :T

My fursona was an Earth Pony. Until I stopped liking MLPFIM mid-season 3. I've tried dabbling a bit in turning him into another species, but no luck.

Lions have always been... Not totemic, but maybe heraldic for me is the right word?

Not sure how "much of a furry" I am, but I like furry things?

And have a fursona.

I have little connection to the fandom (some parts of which still baffle me), but I have lost any strong aversion to the identification. I like anthropomorphic animal characters. I think they're fun and aesthetically pleasing. So it goes.

The kink thing took longer to cop to, but... I have an almost philosophical reason for liking that sort of thing.

Furries are pretty much the ultimate in character potential for me - it's like taking the diversity of humans with our body types and fashions and hair styles and increasing it a thousandfold. Also, they just appeal to me more than humans do - something about the face I think. I've been trying to figure out the exact science behind it for years.

About the "furry appeal" subject, I once heard a phrase once that was something along the lines of "animals are easier to make humane, as humans rarely are."

Though honestly any living being on this planet has the potential to be a saint or an insufferable cunt.

[up][up] It's hard to explain, but... honestly, filmed pornography makes me self-conscious and uncomfortable, and the business behind it is pretty exploitative. A drawing generally lacks that baggage, even if it is featuring something a bit weird; and if done well, it may also have an interesting artistic quality that makes it worth looking at non-pruriently.

Also, finding erotic art that appeals to my tastes in general is difficult, but picking from media more often than not created by and for kinky queer people makes things a bit less tedious, even if most of it is horribly bland, kind of gross or both.

I've always been a furry, I think

I've always been more drawn to anthropomorphic animals in fiction than humans
