That was the reason Yugo didn't grow? Always took Eliatropes not aging as fast at face value since he wasn't that big in Qilby's flashback either.

[up]I don't think that's the case because IIRC, Chibi grew at a normal rate between the show and the OVAs.

This song needs more love.

Forgot the exact trope, but it's like Steven. Basically you age normally to a point, then stagnant after a while.

And in Steven Universe that's basically done for the same reason. Keep him like a kid, because he's in a kids show where they want to relate to kids.

But they don't have that reason for Yugo. Or any particular reason to make Eliatropes age that way. They're not working for a network anymore, the show is basically going direct-to-DVD and Netlfix now. And pretty much the reason they weren't renewed and moved to netlfix was because the network thought they were getting too mature for kids. So they should just be able to age him up. But they seem to want to make him a perpetual child just for the sake of it.

Which is problematic, because at the same time they write him pining for adult Amalia, while lamenting that he can't age so he can be with her, and that's kind of squicky.

He grows up mentally over the series though.

Well, here's the thing. In-story, they said that Yugo is growing very slowly, and that's why he still looks like a child. This was probably made in order to justify what the channels were imposing at the time, but they added some drama because of his relation to Amalia. All is well.

But now that they aren't linked to the channel anymore, they can't just... undo this? This is a in-story rule now, and somewhat coherent with the very long life Eliatropes seems to live. If he suddenly grew at the same rate as everyone else, why was the rule brought up in the first place?

Plus, if the very few pictures I've seen from season 3 are true, he does grow up a bit. It's not like a growth spurt that puts him at the same age as everyone else, but his body has different proportions. There is definitively some teenaging going on here. We'll have to see what it looks like in motion.

They did the time skip and had him stop aging in the OVA's, and by then they had already stopped making episodes for a network.

Guys, the Dofus movie.

Guys, the Cringe Comedy is strong with this one.

Guys, the Refuge in Audacity is pretty fucking intense. The characters are not chaste, and neither is the camera!

I mean, wool underpants?!

It's a shame Dofus isn't on Netflix. Any easy legitiamte way to watch it?

I doubt it, the movie is new so it probably won't be dubbed for a good long while. I'm not even sure if the tv show is dubbed. And the only legal way to watch it would probably be on the channel it comes from and that won't be subbed I don't think.

I actually don't want dubs or subs. I want to watch it in French.

Well if you can watch it raw there's France 3, dunno if it has the episodes on there but you can check. The movie probably won't be on there though.

Sadly, I live in the US, so I can't watch France 3. Guess I'll just have to see if anybody bothered to pirate it.

Region locking is so frustrating. It's hard to find any French TV at all that's available. (The most notable show I've found so far is Plus belle la vie, which is available on tv5.ca, and even that is probably just an accident.)

I'd love to get into more foreign cartoons, but it's so hard to find a good place to watch them. Anime being the one exception which is one reason I stick with it. But I'd love to get into more French shows because there to be some really good ones.

Livestreaming isn't reliable either, tried it with a couple episodes of Miraculous Ladybug and had no luck at all.

Yeah, the Dofus movie is good.

I really like how well they handled Julith. Even if tbh, the Characterization as a whole is a success.

Just watched the first episode of Dofus Treasures of Kerubim.

Seeing young!Joris is certainly odd.

Edit: Just watched episode 2. I discovered that someone put up every episode on Youtube, which will make it much easier to watch. It's especially nice since the videos have optional subtitles, so I can watch them first without subtitles and then with.

I just watched the Dofus movie (Dofus Book I: Julith). What to say, what to say.

Trivia first: chronologically it takes place after Treasures of Kerubim but (long) before the season I of Wakfu. Joris is still a kiddo here, living with his Papycha. It is about the return of eponymous character Julith, a Brakmarian who was responsible for a cataclysmic event that led to the death of her lover Jahash, and was thought to be dead - as per usual in these series, she is looking for a Dofus, which is somehow linked to Joris and Kerubim. The main cast also includes Lilotte, Joris' best friend, who I assume is a young Ouginak girl, Khan Karkass, Iop and gobbowl player extraordinaire, and Bakara (yes, that's Eve's real name in Mass Effect 3, I think it is a coincidence more than a homage though), a Huppermage (the class that was most recently introduced in the game - the 17th) and Jahash's little sister.

As for how it is, well, it was better than I expected. I found Treasures to be a bit childish for my tastes, and while the same type of...how to say it...dumb humor is still featured here, the story is much more on par with Wakfu's more serious moments - there even was an homage to the season 2's finale in the graphic style during the climax of the movie. The new characters are nothing spectacular, but after starting with a story that looked so predictable it would embrace every single cliché in the book, they cleverly made it derail, which allowed for surprising character development. And without getting too much into the details, the way they pictured Julith was reminiscent of Nox (who I still consider to be one of the greatest animated villains - ever), which is nice because three-dimensional villains are hard to come by in recent animated movies.

So...it's good. If you enjoyed Wakfu, you should watch it. Especially since the sequel is not guaranteed - due to a limited distribution, the film was not a huge commercial success (critically, it got positive reviews on average).

Wonder if it will ever show up on Netflix. Though the fact that Treasures of Kerubim didn't make it doesn't bode well.

The Dofus movie was hilarious. An excellent interplay of dumb and smart. And yeah, the beginning was super-cliché, up until the moment Judith arrived at Paypcha's.

Then shit got real.

Mmh, I'd say it was pretty cliché after that too. When Bakara went ballistic, however, was the moment where I thought "What." since I did not expect that at all.
