Dude, they were perfect. Balanced, well-paced, flowing, beautiful, elegant, moving... amazing!

I chuckled when someone said the English voice actor for Ruel sounds like a cross between Grover and Yoda.

Seems like an adequate translation.

Huh, this is in Netflix now. Gotta check it out at some point

(Note: Considering lack of english subtitles, and all nordic countries languages being available, not sure if its in every netflix or if whoever put it up there didn't think someone might want to read stuff in english translation in kids shows <_<)

...Dear lord how much Finnish translators give no damn. I can imagine some 50s old French learned guy sitting on office absent mindedly translating stuff and being like "Dang kid shows, this is what I'm doing with my life" for paycheck

I mean, this translation is pretty inconsistent. In this episode they are referring Evangline's bow as the other kind of bow(you know, the piece of cloth)... Thats just...*face palm* Its not that hard to figure out even from context, but it shows someone just read the script without checking clips if they didn't figure out context from clip itself, someone edited script to so everything shows up at time they should, but nobody pointed out the wrong word...

...Wait, how the hell did they even translate bow as bow anyway? This is French show, and they do refer Tristepin as Tristepin instead of Sadly Grove so its not like they translated it from English Dub. Did they translate french to english and then to finnish or does French word for bow also mean the other kind of bow?

They most definitely took the script for English subtitles and translated it to Finnish without looking at the show itself. "Arc" is entirely univocal in French and cannot possibly be confused with the hair thing, which is called a "bandeau", "ruband" or "noeud".

Okay, this time they did refer him as Sadlygrove(well, that translated to Finnish literally) ._. Its like they switched scripts at some point unless my memory sucks and they never actually referred him as Tristepin. Could be possible, in the show they refer to him by his last name/nickname anyway, so I could have probably checked from wiki what his name was and that stuck to my memory.

But yeah, seriously, in context even without visuals they are clearly referring to weapons(well, I suppose without context someone might be confused at why a doll is weapon, but still) so why did they think it was a ribbon...

Either way, not that big a deal, but I'm just generally annoyed by how bad our translations can be... I mean, yeah, some things are tough to translate into this language, but not things like this -_-;

They should leave the translations to fans who care, and let us pay the show's creators directly without distributor middlemen.

Kids shows' have it probably the worst, but translators missing meanings of phrases does happen with others shows too :P Like, in Finnish something was translated as "Who is that man?" which doesn't make any sense, but I guess it was translated from "Whos the man?!" since character was clearly yelling something celebratory. That type of things happens rather often in Finnish subtitles...

Well, it's hilarious if understandable.

Welp, I've gone and spent too much money on this series. On the plus side, I finally found inspiration to get off my ass and learn French, so it balances out, I guess. I'm hoping that by the time Season Three comes out (if it ever comes out), I'll be able to understand it without English subtitles.

I know, right? I started French in Middle School because I had to, but I never actually planned on using it. I guess there's a lesson here, huh?

I betcha most of the Westerners who speak any Japanese at all do so because them motherf-ers got the best cartoons on the god-a-ed planet.

Amen. Although, since there's such a market for anime, it's easy enough for me to wait for the official subs/dubs. Maybe someday, though, I'll get another burst of motivation :)

I stumbled across this recently and recognised it from an episode I saw on holiday in Italy three years ago. It was the Black Crow which is fairly self-explanatory but I didn't have much of an idea what was going on with the dialogue except the bit where they start questioning his choice of name and suggesting alternatives. I wish I'd found out about the Kickstarter before it ended so I could have chipped in but regardless it's one of my new favourite things - the animation is stunning. I just wish my French were better so I could get more out of the original.

Well, I think it's on Netflix, but I don't have Netflix. I also can't remember if Netflix has subs or dubs.

Of course, there are torrents of english subs out there, but That Would Be Wrong (you could just do what I did, and buy the DV Ds and watch the subs online, but that's pretty expensive.) Or, you can start taking French lessons. I haven't started any classes yet, but there's a website, Duolingo, that's free. It's also kind of fun.

It's on Netflix, yes, and available in sub or dub format, though I don't think Subs worked all the time on my end.

just watched the specials. Holy hell, they were awesome!

So did I. The OV As surprisingly depressing, especially when Yugo pulls a Nox, and puts the whole world in danger just to save his friend. On the other hand, I think it's better to stop Ogrest now, rather than wait for him to drown everything. If it's a choice between possible death from space-Dofus now, or guaranteed death by drowning later, you go with the space-Dofus. Of course, that never occurred to Yugo; he (selfishly) acted to save his friend.

I really don't care for the first episode, though. First, they have the time skip, and all the info-dumping that comes with it. Second, it has Count Harebourg, and I really don't like that guy. The count's personality is creepy and weird, but it's like the writers want us to sympathize with him , like Nox. Harebourg's fallen in love with Amalia, but he's never even met her, so the romance just feels awkward. He's willing to throw the whole world under the bus to save his kingdom of Frigost, and his people love him, but his plan to save them all... I understand his plan, I just don't see how it was ever supposed to work. It's gibberish: Harebourg has two Eliatrope Dofus, which he says he'll trade in exchange for Amalia's hand in marriage, and he also requests that the Brotherhood escorts her. When they get there, he gives them a tour of Frigost; the underground forest, the great hall, the secret boiler room where he's reconstructed Nox's equipment. Once they get there, the count talks about how he's been spying on all them- including Amalia- and explains that he's going to use the Eliatrope Dofus to turn both Frigost and the Sadida kingdom into flying islands, while Ogrest's Chaos drowns the rest of the world. But what he doesn't mention is that his magical boiler is powered by trees, and Harebourg is going to use the Sadida kingdom as fuel- or some of it anyway, because I don't think he'd actually need to burn the whole kingdom. And of course, he takes the Brotherhood prisoner and heads off for the wedding, because he really is in love with the woman he just spoke to today. And to top it off, he can't use the Eliatrope Dofus. They just don't work for non-Eliatropes. And Harebourg knows this, and he's still trying to beat up Yugo and shack up with his love interest. So, good luck with that flying island plan, Count. I'm sure Yugo would love to help you.

So, on one hand Count Harebourg is this creepy-weird White-Haired Pretty Boy who's trying to force Amalia into marrying him, but the writers are trying to play up the mysterious romantic Noble Demon angle (his subjects love him! He wants to save his people!). On the other hand, his nefarious plan isn't necessarily evil, but it's petty as all hell, and it's just not going to work. Nox was a decaying lunatic whose ultimate goal was very human, and almost noble. Count Harebourg's just his opposite.

He's been a huge idiot about it all.

Plus, he could have been content with the deal as originally stated, and marry her. It would have been a partial victory. Getting Yugo's collaboration later would be a bonus, and I'm sure he'd have the time to get over it.

Also, I can't help but laugh out loud every time he's addressed as "Compte Harebough!" It just cracks me up!

Eh, kinda. There wasn't much in season one, but Amalia and Yugo did hang out together and actually do stuff that wasn't related to the plot. Season two had a lot more hugging, and now the manga has a few scenes like this one, so, yeah... it gets dialed up. I think it works from season one to season two to the manga, but the info dump from the timeskip makes it feel awkward. Adamaï didn't help. "By the way bro, those teenage hormones you've been wrestling with for the past... five years, maybe?- make it totally obvious you have a thing for Amalia. Sucks that she's getting married tomorrow, huh?"

Since I'm already whining, I'll add that I don't think heavy media crossovers are a good idea. Ush Galesh shows up in the second OVA. It's not so bad if you know who Ush is, but he's got Remington Smisse working for him. This is important, because in Remington's spin off, it's Ush who turns Grany into a Bow-Meow. The reason Remington's been gathering Shushus in Season Two is so he'll have enough power to finally kill Ush. But now, he's desperate enough to make a deal with the guy who not only cursed his brother, but is also holding the rest of his gang hostage. If you chase down all the tie-ins, this is a pretty big deal. But it feels kind of unfair to people who only follow the show, because they're missing information that's not in the show at all. It's one thing if you have to watch the show to follow the plot, but if you have to watch the show and buy the comics and maybe play the MMO- that's a pain in the ass.

While true that saving his life was his priority, Yugo did bring up the argument that Ogrest was already destroying the world to Adamai. He also tried to get Tristepin to bail out of the fight when he arrived to the island.
