I wiped in CT before it was cool.

I......actually can say the same, surprisingly. ST wasn't yet out when I first joined the game and hit 50.

The Ninja quests are a lot of fun. The DPS quests/tutorials are a lot better designed than any of the healer ones.

I wonder if anything will come of Karasu training up imperial ninjas.

From what I hear, the Ninja ones are more instructional than the other DPS ones; they have the benefit of having been written later. All the other job quests except the Arcanist-based ones were around since before 2.0.

Hell, remember when trying to join CT or ST had withdraw spam when people were fishing for in progress runs?

I can't say I've ever had frequent trouble in the Crystal Tower raids. I have had a couple of Wo Ds fall apart early on, and almost every time I've run Labyrinth of the Ancients since the weekly started, half the alliance doesn't pay attention to mechanics on the first boss, in particular not controlling where the skeletons die, which can still easily result in a wipe even though most people are way above the level requirement now.

I can't remember ever having a bad run in Syrcus Tower. I'm pretty sure it's the easiest of the three, in terms of mechanics, at least.

I've seen wipes at all levels of CT at all points during its lifespan, but the group either has to be overall extremely bad or a group of people have to be actively trolling. (The quality of groups tends to be highest right after reset and go down on weekends.) Two good alliances can carry a bad one but one cannot carry two (using full groups iwith my FC as a benchmark of good - we're not all super-serious players but we know our roles and try to play them as well as possible).

I remember a Syrcus Tower run with FC peeps that had one whole alliance actively trolling, and they sat out the entirety of the Xande fight (which has DPS checks in the form of the meteors and mechanics check in the form of the circles that need to be covered or people take extra damage). We stepped up our game and one-shot it in spite of them.

[up][up]I was in a raid that couldn't get it together for Scylla. Like Angra Manyu in Wo D, ST seems to frontload its one somewhat troublesome encounters.

[up][up]I rarely see wipes at Angria Mainyu...I'm not sure I ever have. I want to say Cloud of Darkness has more, with the combo of multiple possible near-wipe mechanics and hard hits in general, and it's somewhat challenging even to people who know what they're doing. Cerberus can also be problematic, or at least very frustrating if the DPS is extremely bad or people don't agree on who's doing what. (Never go full DPS in.)

Just want to state for the record that my FC is awesome. They essentially let me borrow the static for the evening to get through my relic quest and teach me Garuda and Titan HM.

Most of the wipes I have seen in Wo D have been at Angra Mainyu or Cloud of Darkness. I don't think I ever seen a wipe in ST at anything other than Scylla.

And yeah, I once tried to do one of the raids, I can't remember which one, on a Monday, and it was an absolute shambles.

What do you all make of Urianger meeting with Elidibus? He a traitor, too, or do any of you think he might legitimately be trying to negotiate something?

I think there's manipulation involved

I don't know what he's up to, but I'd like to think he's not simply betraying you. There's been enough of that going on already. Even from a purely storytelling point of view, after the betrayal of almost all of the Crystal Braves and Tataru's looking sideways at us, is another betrayal really the most interesting thing that can happen?

Cganale Since: Dec, 2010

Urianger is helped a lot by the fact that his tone when speaking to Elidibus was very much "what the fuck do you want?" rather than mustachio-twirling evil.

I would dearly love to hear Gideon Emery say that.

perhaps he's being manipulated to do something for the ascians since they could say, "help us and you get Moenbryda back"

[up] While they might say that, I kinda doubt they could even if they wanted to keep their word. IIRC, using up the entirety of one's aether the way Moenbryda did during her Heroic Sacrifice makes one Deader than Dead, after all (though admittedly, it has been a while since I watched that scene.

Hence manipulation! Remember, he's still pretty torn up over her death and it's a perfect time for the Ascians to fuck with him. As smart as Urianger is, not even he is immune to succumbing to his emotions for someone he was fond of. All the ascians have to do make up a bunch of stuff that sounds believable. But let's say Moenbyrda wasn't a part of the deal. They could say anything to get him to cooperate via blackmailing.

Elidibus is also the odd duck of the Ascians, seeming to have precisely zero interest in the shit that the others are doing. I'm not sure what that really implies, but just putting it out there.

Anyone got any tips for Odin's trial? I plan to run it a few times with some FC mates to get his set for glamor.

[up][up] He's basically the diplomat of the Ascians. So it's extremely likely that he and Urianger were meeting on neutral terms. Beyond that it's hard to speculate.

[up]Besides the mechanics (which are pretty straightforward), have someone who can run Mantra during the Ao E bleeds, especially if you get a double. The fight can be rough on the healer's mana and it helps a lot. Bard should run Foe Req for adds and have it up when Odin's at 16% for Shin-Zanetzuken at %15 - mana and TP songs should be used as sparingly as possible. And don't pop the LB (pref. melee LB) before Shin-Zanetzuken.

Ugh. Having a couple of "What idiot thought that would be a good idea" moments lately:

  • Beat the Odin FATE, bought the armor... which is A. worse than what I was wearing and B. can't be used for glamour since it's one piece that covers four slots. The coolest looking armor in the game can't be glamoured.
  • Speaking of FATE stuff, who thought gating Crystal Tower behind fates was a good idea?
