From? Nowhere. Well, it's derived from Megurine Luka... I'm a little hazy on how she got turned into an octopus thing, though.

Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.I see. It just sparked some interest.
Read all of my fanfics!I think it was something to do with deciding a character item and it came down to a contest between tuna and takoyaki. Tuna won but the octopus Luka was created by someone.
So... back to the correct topic?
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls. What was that again? Koizumi's reaction to the harem reveal and Kyon's reaction to the other harem reveal?
Read all of my fanfics!I think we've exhausted that topic.
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.Indeed. Any suggestions?
Read all of my fanfics! How many cousins has Kyon got, again?
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.Agreed on the "Best use of Mathematician's Answer" ever.
Cousins, let's see... there's Shion and Satoshi's two kids(Azusa and Yoko, IIRC), but I don't think those two really count...
Rena has one(Yurie, right?)... Rika has two(Matsuri and Shutaro)... Mion has two(The Sonozaki twins, boy-girl pair. Can't think of their names off the top of my head. EDIT: Are they Makoto and Naoto? Or did I mix one of their names up with the Houjou twins?)... Satoko has one(Can't remember this name either >_>).
So, 6-8, depending on how you look at it, I think?
Koizumi's reaction would be priceless. He cracked me the hell up with his fanboy squeeing this chapter XD
Sorry to repeat a question, but I'm curious. Anyone know what's talked about in this?

I assume "a lot" isn't a right answer?
Read all of my fanfics! If you include Shion and Satoshi's children (they'd be second cousins, I think) then wouldn't that be 8-10?
Hmm... at the upper end, that's one more than the number of cousins I have, I think. Oh, wait, that's only counting my mother's side. I have no idea how many there are on my father's...
I think that's what Durandall is referring to, though the plural is rather confusing.

Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.^No, I think it is six kids if not counting the Houjou twins. Matsuri, Shutaro, Yurie, Makoto, Naota, and Satoko's daughter(that's it, I'm looking her name up in the series EDIT: Found it, Aiko. I should remember that, that's my first dog's name)
Adding the Houjou twins, Azusa and Yoko, makes it 8.
And that's exactly what's confusing me about that statement, which is why I'm trying to think if there's something else. That incident fits the best, though, since Haruhi was visibly displeased that day, and it was that night that she made the super-Closed Space that almost remade the world.

I'm pretty sure they're referred to as a "gaggle" at one point. Good enough for me. :)
Wasn't it unseasonably hot the day before or something?
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.^Yeah, that's why Haruhi changed into the bunny girl outfit. Well, supposedly :P
Methinks Tsuruya had craftily preempted Kyon's "delayed mental breakdown" with the kissing session.
On another note, anyone knows which early chapters (besides the prologue) were updated?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Hmm... is there a way to compare two separate pieces of text for differences? I have the original versions of the first thirty-two or so chapters saved, so I could check.
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.Reading it again, it looks like she was just speaking hypothetically about getting frustrated at being ignored in increasingly skimpy outfits and deciding to destroy the world, but Kyon remembered the bunny girl costume anyway. Maybe. That's what it looks like to me, anyway.
@Daze: there is a built-in UNIX command to do that, but I don't know about windows. Hell, I'll probably be bored today. I have saved versions, too. I can just write a program to do the comparisons.
@Pax: Hmm, that explanation does make sense, although it seems Haruhi remembers the same moment afterward, too, as she blushes as Kyon connects that phrase to one of his memories.
OH! I GOT IT! IT IS THAT DAY! She changes twice that day, once into her gym uniform, because of the heat, and then in the club, she changes into the bunny girl outfit.

I'm sure that was there to start with. Considering Kyon's latest lie... Brick Joke?
Also of interest in that prologue is the mention of this. It seems Kyon knows how to use more than one sword. Secondary use for the Slider's weaponry?

Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.Gah, what in the world happened between Keiichi and Kyon's mother that had them so at odds? And what does it have to do with Kyon?
This can't be for something as simple as, say, "OMG Keiichi, why did you give up the family name when you got married to Rika?" Depending on how much his teenage antics and unconventionality carried on into adult years, it might be something as simple as "OMG Keiichi, you're such a hooligan, be a responsible adult once in awhile," or at least it might be if this was real life with exceptionally bad communication leading to mishandling everything and grudges popping up. But in this story? That isn't nearly dramatic enough or tied into the plot enough.
So, looking at things more specific... Kyon's parents suspect Keiichi of Yakuza involvement already. That would probably be enough to cause a period of estrangement followed by perpetual uneasiness and disapproval.
Except... back in chapter 18, the end of the first Hinamizawa visit:
"No," she said, shaking her head. "That's.... Not this year. Not for Kyon."
Rika pursed her lips at that, frowning. It wasn't that frequently that his birthday and the actual date of Watanagashi coincided.... Still, that was a whole different issue.
"Oh, you think?" Mion asked, somewhat caustically. "There's about a zero percent chance of Kyon being allowed to come up when his birthday falls on Watanagashi...."
It's not just Keiichi that Kyon's mother has a problem with. Kyon himself is a bone of contention between them. For some reason, Kyon needs to be in Hinamizawa for his birthday, and his mother doesn't want him there. I get the feeling Kyon's mother disapproves of Hinamizawa and its rural religion in general, not just her brother... I keep thinking there's something about being in the family of the priestess that means Kyon has some sort of mystic legacy or obligation that he's expected to fulfill.
Or, it could have to do with the Hinamizawa syndrome. Was that actually eradicated? We don't know. It's plausible that whatever government agency is still paying attention (for health/research reasons?) might want to get occasional samples from people related to the village. Except they wouldn't have to wait for the festival Watanagashi for that. Besides, right now, Hinamizawa syndrome has nothing to do with the story of K:BDH unless Durandall decides to graft on another book to the outline.
Now that I think about it, though, Keiichi and Kyon's mother's initial estrangement might be a separate issue, and their quietly fighting over Kyon is just fallout that arose later. If that's the case, Keiichi possibly being yakuza and marrying a priestess and Hinamizawa being so... "backwards," Kyon's mother might see it as, could be enough to estrange them for awhile. Kyon's mother could just be trying to limit Kyon's exposure to the place—especially that absurdly superstitious festival, as she would see it.
Sigh. One part text, two parts conjecture, three parts throwing in whatever I want to see. Curse you, Durandall, for making the Hinamizawa stuff so interesting but not at all central to the story. :P
Anyone else have guesses about Keiichi, Kyon's mother, and Kyon's Watanagashi attendance?

My Fanfic, My Fanart@Rainy Daze: That would seem likely, all things considered... Also, considering that the sword style was created by Miyamoto Musashi, plus who is stated to be a descendant of the fabled swordsman...
Also... I just realized that I may of caused a Missed Moment of Awesome for Durandall's story... I actually read the entry for said swordsman, and discovered that he had fought a swordsman in his final duel... who went by the name of Sasaki Kirijo... Hmmm...

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...Or maybe Kyon's mother has had some bad experiences with Watanagashi. Wait... endlessly repeating June, her having to be alive then, dying a lot... some stuff seems to have filtered through subconsciously. And if she was alive then, she'd still be young...
Oh dear.
Kyon has no blood link to Rika and Hanyuu, though. Unless he does, which would be even more confusing and might explain the estrangement.
I thought Kyon was a descendant of... someone else. Not him. What's the name, again? Taira no Tadamichi? Or is it the other way around?
Fought who?
Oh... I see. That's rather interesting.

Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.Actually, I thought of the sword style as interesting because it is tied to Tsuruya's family... Not to mention that the swordsman himself was considered a Warrior Poet among other things...
Um... *

Daze, this is really off topic but I've wanted to ask it for a while. What is your avatar from?
