You can solve the item thing by adding extra, optional rooms that require items not found in the dungeon, so you havce to come back later with better equipment. Metroid does this always and it works.

With Metroid, those areas are integrated into the game's world; in areas you'll be passing by normally. However, as Zelda has a focus on discrete dungeons seperate from the overworld, it might not feel organic to routinely force players to revisit already-completed dungeons. Consider the ire Skyward Sword's Skyview Temple revisit recieved compared to similar instances of overworld backtracking found throughout the rest of the series.

Ok, here's an idea. What if the dungeons had like a hub area shortly into them. This area has a save point (assuming this game has save points like SW and ALBW) and maybe you can warp from them (like in ALBW). From this area you can enter several sub-areas of the dungeon, clear all those sub-areas and you fight the boss. But some the sub-areas need the dungeon item from another sub-area and/or from a whole other dungeon to get inside.

So you travel between multiple dungeons in which some parts of dungeons have to be done before other parts, but you're given some choice on when to do them.

[up]That's not a bad idea, actually.

That, along with progressively integrating the dungeons into the overworld (for example, if Twilight Princess had Goron shopkeepers and quest NP Cs move into the Goron Mines after defeating Fyrus) would probably be a good way of integrating non-linearity while preserving the narrative of the game world and minimising player irritation.

A part of my idea actually was that there would be NPC's in the dungeon's hub area. These NPC's and perhaps the surrounding area would have a small story to them that progresses as you clear the areas of the dungeon. One of the NPC's would perhaps be captured by and/or help with fighting the dungeon's boss.

..hm.

have to admit, i wasnt expecting that one guy in hyrule town to freak the fuck out when i talk to him wearing the gerudo mask.

i wonder what they did to make him so scared of them?

Well, among the Sheikah Stones, there's rumors that Gerudos pick up Hylian males for dates/breeding. So... think about that for a moment. Kidnapping tends to do that to you. They are "Thieves" and do kidnap people, as shown before the Spirit Temple, respectively.

...why would they need to kidnap though?

one-night stands via monthly trips to hyrule town for a wild night out is really all that needs to be done in order for the gerudos to keep themselves going...and thats always the way ive taken that shiekah stone to mean that.

i mean, yeah, they have kidnapped people. in the bad future where they're understandably both probably not looked favorably on at that point (being ganondorfs people n all) and low on men available. and iirc, the carpenters were trespassing.

i dont really like demonizing the gerudo in that way when its not really necessary. im not sure they'd even be let into town if they were known to actually kidnap people.

Well, that's the only theories I could think of at the moment, at least, based upon in-game events/given information. Just because it only happened once doesn't mean it would happen again. But one person thinking they'd do that? That happens. Unfortunately, it's possible for a person to hang unto one event and judge harshly for it. It's actually realistic as a point.

I really don't know why(well, neither of us do). It's just left unsaid. Maybe something happened to one of his family members related to a Gerudo for all we know. Maybe the Mask of Truth could unveil his past? OOT only somewhat makes the Gerudos look sympathetic. It doesn't actually attempt to make them look like straight-out heroes at all. Just not really "evil" persay. It didn't help that MM turned them pretty much into the bad guys(one of many sets). Then WW makes Pirates not evil at all, just misunderstood. Just like One Piece. To a degree.

I should note that while yes, the race as a whole doesn't do that, the one this guy met could have tried to kidnap him instead. People do judge based upon a single event. It's not illogical, since we can only go off of what we know. Considering that the Zelda games aren't exactly good at making every race seem equal or act friendly towards each other... racism isn't hard to believe whatsoever. There's been wars in the past among various ones, for instance. I think it's probably a simple case of Unfortunate Implications at work.

They're still thieves. Maybe he was worried that you'd mug him.

Maybe he hooked up with a Gerudo once and got scared you were her coming back (or maybe the kid, since you're short) to say he was a father.

Eh, I don't think he would have had to worry about that. The only case we have for a Hylian male raising a possible Gerudo female is Talon raising Malon, and that's never stated outright.

And doesn't the curse or prophecy about the Gerudo state they'll only give birth to one male every century? Not that a Hylian would know that for sure.

[up] It does. Which is more or less why them going out to look for Hylian males is fairly normal.

We're just speculating why someone is scared of a Gerudo. Who knows.

Fun fact: The Gerudo/desert parts of OOT are the only ones that don't receive any beneficial effects after its resident Sage is summoned and its Temple is cleared. Technically Zora's Domain doesn't get restored immediately either, but it is revealed by Ruto that it will melt over time.

EDIT: It's probably Fridge Brilliance, since the only real solution to improve the Gerudos' situation is to defeat Ganondorf, who happens to be the Final Boss. Can I add this to the Fridge tab of the OOT page, if there is one?

Occasional one-night stands aren't a terribly reliable method of getting pregnant. A kidnapped male has the benefit of being able to keep trying until the job gets done.

So, I forgot to mention that I beat the Shadow temple yesterday.

Man, that place ain't scary at all. Or if it was, it's not anymore.

Punked that whole place like a bitch.

Think I'll do the Big Goron Sword trading sequence....once I actually get the Goron's knife. I seem to have forgotten how to actually do it.

You have to buy the Giant's Knife from a hidden Goron's shop on the second highest level of Goron City. There's a bunch of walls you have to bomb to get to him, and it's 200 rupees. Then you do the long trade sequence for the real sword. Make sure not to use the Giant's Knife until you get the sword or it'll break.

But the Giant's Knife isn't necessary at all to get the Biggoron's Sword.

In fact, the last time I got that knife was in 2000, 13 and a half years ago.

Until you can get the Biggoron's Sword, the Giant's Knife is a fun replacement. Also fun to use against Ganon, even broken. XD

i got the broken knife from the carpenter for giving him his son's saw.

i was sort of hoping for something more useful like...a wallet.

200rupee wallets fill up quickly. im quite tired of opening chests of 80 chests only to get none of it.

OTL i should never have opened all those chests in goron city.
