And then the villain will destroy the mountains.

Cause guess what, when you say screw the world, all the stuff on it that you like usually gets destroyed.

Xenoblade X will take care of my mountain climbing needs. Right now I'm mostly hoping that Xenoblade inspired Aonuma to create a truly memorable open world filled with plenty of things to do. Because from what we've seen, it's going to be tough to beat Xenoblade X.

I will be mountaineering in XCX while I wait for Zelda U.

i love xenoblade but most of the sidequests in that game were unmemorable MMO fetch-a-thons. i would hope that the side content in zelda u was a little more meaningful.

One of the things I am most excited for about both Xenoblade and Zelda U is that the Wide-Open Sandbox world could offer loads and loads of meaninful side content, as well as some completely meaningless stuff (like my mountaineering expeditions.)

I feel like the only two Zelda games that really offer much in the way of sidequests are Majora's Mask and Wind Waker.

Eh, the only way the villain would be destroying mountains is if you're on some kind of time limit. Which could defeat the purpose of a wide open sandbox. It's better if it's a soft limit, where instead of losing the entire game if you cross it, the villain just starts targeting certain areas. Or following you. Fallout 1 started with a hard limit, and people bitched enough to get it turned soft instead. Now if you cross the limit, some towns got attacked and destroyed. In Skyrim there's a bit of this too. In the beginning, if you're not quick enough with following the escape quest, Alduin the dragon starts directly hunting you instead of wondering just who he's here to kill.

Take Your Time is going to be in effect, almost certainly. Ganon's no stranger to chilling out on his fancy throne while waiting for Link to get done messing with cuccos and pots.

I sure said that!

It would be great if it avoided that, though. Things speed up in the endgame, but a story that, at several points, incentivizes fuckabouts, and just taking in the world would be good.

Heck, apparently Morrowind did that pretty damn well.

The start of Deus Ex: Human Revolution averted Take Your Time brilliantly but the trick will be trying to find a way to warn the player when they're being serious about you needing to hurry. I suppose they could just not tell the player they need to hurry unless they actually do and let them discover the consequences for themselves.

Eh, a game in which they're trying to create a vast, beautiful open world to freely explore would be undermined if you were actively punished for taking your time.

I don't know what the thread's common opinion on Skyward Sword is, but at least they justified the lack of urgency for the final boss fights by all that time travel hijinks.

Morrowind supported taking your time. When you meet your boss for that game, his first orders are to join some guilds and dick around until you're ready for the main quest then come back and see him.

It'd be cool if Zelder Scrolls works like that and you're told at several points to go exploring for power ups and come back when you're ready. You could get your fill of the wide world and then come back to do great deeds.

Yeah. Zelda U will definitely have Take Your Time and be better for it. I really don't know why they would give us a time limit, unless they really want to go for Gameplay and Story Integration. Otherwise it would just drag the game down.

Speaking of Take Your Time, I'm a bit surprised by how negative places like Zelda Universe have been about the state of Zelda U right now. I mean, it's understandable that people are upset about the delay, but right now everyone just seems to be saying that either the Wii U is now done forever, that the game itself is either a) being given the Twilight Princess treatment or b)being given the Duke Nukem Forever treatment, because Zelda games have never been delayed before. Come on people, Zelda U will be a Wii U exclusive coming out sometime next year, or 2017 at the latest.

I do believe that Zelda Universe is negative about every Zelda game at any given point in time. I seem to recall it being them who said that no one likes puzzles in Zelda.

This is why I don't look up release dates. That way, if they get delayed, I won't have known anything about it and won't be let down.

I haven't been around ZU for very long, and if this continues I might not join up. The three fansites I visit all have their problems: Zelda Dungeon can get a little dormant, especially during the stretches between releases, Zelda Informer can get pretty out there, and ZU, as I said before, can be quite negative.

I just bought the HD Wind Waker thing for my Wii U.

Now it is pretty as fuck but is there any way to tone the brightness or bloom or gamma or whatever that thing is down? Just a little?

Oh really when?

i believe that would be on your TV.

i had a similar problem on skyward sword when i moved from my big lounge TV to the smaller one in my room. everything looks off. it was too bright, lacking in detail that i definitely recalled was there. required a lot of tinkering with the tv to get it to resemble what i remembered.
