Mind Flayers.

We are so screwed.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

Well at least with Indomitable Will we will not be mind blasted and enslaved. Right...?

Don't worry about Sarge being a Killer Game Master, he's only doing this to make the heroes look more Badass.

I'm also a bit worried that Sarge's description of Mind Flayers may tick Taco off, as that was his PC in the first game.

Yes, but remember that most people don't know the difference between the evil Illithids and the good Mind Flayers. After all, they do look very similar. Hence, many adventurers have mistaken one for the other. My GM's description reflects that. This is what you get in a world with no newspapers, radio or other mass-media: All information except first-hand in-game information is always at least a little suspect, even if it's from the GM!

And no, I'm not turning into the evil GM. I just wanted to bump up the level of challenge a notch. And it's not like you're facing a whol army of Illilids. There's really only a handful of them.

Oh I know you won't throw at us anything that we can't handle, I have just read too many books with Mind Flayers in them.

Ah, Tem. Seeing as the adventure happened 60 years ago, and Edvin's been a Specter for 75, I'm playing Edvin like he knew Tem.

Speaking about past characters, James is the grandson of Andrew Tsif. Too bad he didn't inherit any of his Ki Attacks (though he still won the Superpower Lottery considering the fact that he's a frickin werewolf) Considering Andrew is a hero now, James idolized his grandfather before and after he met him, this is due to the fact that James also wants to be a hero. Andrew Tsif ain't alive anymore, so we won't be seeing him on this adventure.

did you intentionally mirror something that happened to ridiculously complicated elf name?

...Sarge, if you want this Illithid to do something before Zelph kills him in a ludicrously graphic fashion, now would be a good time.

EDIT a couple days later: Too late! Was that brutal enough, BTW? ^_^

Awesome brutal.

If this was the kind of gamer where the GM handed out experience points, you'd be getting bonus style points. evil grin

you did in the original game. Of course, then we got such incidents as Tem, the teleporting Mind Flayer.

I'm starting to realise that writing Aaron in the middle of a fight is not the easiest part of his character. I was also going to have James suggest using illithid meat as rations but I realise that would make him way too wierd for comfort.

Funny, the first Storyteller game characters had levels...

Ok, so a long, long post by me. The bottom half just explains how this ship is organized and such. Skip it if you want. Now someone go search the Illithid bodies and tell us what you find. They have be a magical do-dad and a log book, and whatever assorted stuff you wanna say is there. You get to describe it to us. Go on, do it. We'll wait here. :)

Now let us never speak of it again. cool

yeah, I figured so. I'm also thoroughly enjoying this RP, just because of its heavier emphasis on character and dialogue. Am I the only who views this almost as a deconstruction of High Fantasy?

I'm hoping there's another High Flayer named Tem Highwater who's annoyed about being confused with Tem Deepwater at some point. ^_^

Yeah, I do prefer the emphasis of character interaction over combat. I guess the reason the role-play is becoming a deconstruction is due to the players turning it into one. Aaron was me trying to have a different take on the party healer being non-religious and a Knight in Sour Armor, so I guess his character contributed to the deconstruction.

I just realized that Edvin is basically Sam Vimes if Sam Vimes was in anywhere other than Discworld.

I've always viewed the Storyteller series of games as pure role-playing, in it's purest form, super-concentrated so you only need to use 1/4 as much to get your whites whitest and your brights brightest.. No, wait... I had a point there. What was it?

Oh yeah: Roleplaying!

You know, when I was a teenager, my friends and I used to play what was kind of the in-person verbal version of this game. We called it "Superheroes, and I was the GM. I'd play the part of all the villans, NPC, peopel in need of saving, etc. and my friends would play their characters. I suppose this comprised early training for the many services I provide to you, my faithful gamers. Like Storyteller, the only rules we had were the one's we'd mutually agree to. But for the most part, we'd just make things up as we went along. Needless to say, it was crazy-fun.

Of course, me being as old as I am, this in-person roleplaying period of my life was back in the dark ages, before the advent of the internet. So, we literally had to meet in person to play games, because there was no on-line. I know, I know, it's hard to imagine, but it was real. I chit you not. Actual people, sitting around an actual table, eating actual snack food and drinking actual pop while pretending to be superheroes.

That sounds weird and creepy, doesn't it? Forget I said anything. Nothing to see here. Move along, move along.
