Well, I had wanted to do that, so I made a second assassin and promptly dispatched him.

Is Dwarvish in the Skara-verse like Tolkien's Dwarvish, unknown to outsiders?

Or otherwise unpronounceable by non-Dwarvish throats?

Cause I figured that Deimos might have picked it up on a mission or so....

Dwarvish is a language native to the Dwarves, although it can be learned by non-Dwarves. However, Dwarvish is a completely different language than Common. You could say that Common is as to English as Dwarvish is as to Hungarian: The two languages are totally different, share no common ancestors, and have very few loan words between the two. In fact, Dwarvish does not even use the same alphabet that Common uses. And so, while it is possible for anyone to learn Dwarvish, it's not an easy task unless you were born to it.

Speritheil (known colloquially in Common as "Elvish") is a member of the same family of languages that Dwarvish is, somewhat like how German and Dutch are related. That's not to say that a person who only understands Dwarvish could understand someone speaking Speretheil, but it would be much easier for someone who understands Dwarvish to learn Speritheil than someone who only understands Common. The only remaining commonality between Speritheil and Dwarvish is the common alphabet, which has not changed significantly in thousands of years. The Drow, being an offshoot of the Elven race, speak their own unique dialect of Speritheil. The Aquatic Elves also have their own dialect of Speretheil.

The Lizzardmen, the Centuars, the Gnomes, the Catmen, the Orcs and both of the varieties of Illithids all have their own unique languages that other intelligent creatures can learn to speak (with various levels of difficulty). The Kuo-Toa, on the other hand, speak a language that is completely indecipherable to non-Koa-Toa. This is due to the fact that Kuo-Toa have gills, do not have tongues, and evolved from fish instead of mammals.

Dragons do have their own language, but they normally do not open their mouths to speak, preferring instead to communicate telepathically with each other. In fact, Dragons have the ability to communicate telepathically with any sentient creature, regardless of language; A feat unmatched by any other race.

Merfolk also have their own language and also communicate primarily telepathically. However, unlike Dragons, Merfolk can only communicate telepathically with other Merfolk.

The Pixies, Brownies, Faeries and the other so-called "Fae" creatures, being magical in nature, have an innate ability to speak and understand virtually any language. They do not "learn" other languages, the simply can speak and understand any language they hear, instantly. Also, because the "Fae" creatures have a close relationship with nature, they can communicate with the natural world in ways mundane beings cannot. Pixies, for example, have the innate ability to talk to and understand plant life (especially trees) as if the plant were a person. Similarly, Brownies can communicate with buildings as if the building were alive and aware of it's surroundings. These magical abilities makes having a Fae creature as a companion particularly usefully to spies, diplomats and mages, despite the otherwise-annoying antics these creatures are usually prone to.

It should be noted that being a member of a particular race does not automatically ensure that one will automatically have a facility with the language associated with that race. For example, an Elf that was orphaned at an early age and then raised by humans in a human-dominated society would probably only learn Common from his or her parents, not Speritheil. This applies also to Half-Elves; A Half-Elf may have learned Common, Speretheil, both, or even neither, depending on where they were raised and by whom.

Sarge, the OOC thing had a contradiction towards Aaron.

You said that Aaron uses arcane magic to heal people...yet I clearly established that was because of divine magic. Aaron's divine magic is different from that of druids or clerics, using mana not by gods but from his own beliefs (that being the will to help people and to save lives)

There's actually a reason how Aaron is able to get away with godless divine magic, it's due to a family ritual that connected him to mana in a special young age. This isn't easy for Aaron to get access to the divine magic either, it requires a lot of willpower to succeed.

I was originally intending for Aaron to be a pure arcane mage but a PM at the start of the RP, you said that Aaron gets his healing spell form divine magic...

So yeah...I just wanted to point that out...

Sorry, I must have remembered wrong. I thought we said Aaron used arcane magic but thought he was using divine magic. My mistake. I'll go back and edit that post to reflect how you want it. smile

Hello.

After a period of contemplation, I have decided to withdraw my character from this RP. My deepest apologies, but time constraints are getting pressing. I do hope you won't take it personally. This is still a good RP by the looks of it, and I wish both you, Sarge, and the other players the best of luck for the future.

Goodbye, and may the stars shine upon you. Perhaps we will meet somewhere else. I know I have already have, for some of you.

Either way, only time will tell...

[up]I can't blame you. Time constraints are why I'm no longer in MMFRPG...

Anyways...who's supposed to post next? Because I don't want to be stuck in the waiting trap...

Well, Paul was pointing out that there's an Apothecary shop in town, and Edvin's been there before... so..... Either Aaron or Edvin can chime in any time now.
