Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Hey, does the Mirage you choose to fight at the end of the first dungeon affect what you get afterwards?
Heart of StoneYou get thier Kid form... which you can level to a full adult
Basically who you pick is your "starter" pokemon
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole! Not me totally went shiva :p
" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."I picked Ramuh because he would have been the easiest of the three to beat; he's weak to the element of practically everything in that dungeon.
Give the God Eater game thread some love!I picked Shiva because I had fire spells.
i. hear. a. sound. From what I understand is you'll still want to catch the SUI GENERIS versions of the characters and not just catch there younger forms and grow them from there
apparently these represent the in story versions of the characters and have a nice stat boost if you max their board out.
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole! So can Final Fantasy VII be considered the progenitor of influential video games that fall victim to It's Popular, Now It Sucks!? Such as Five Nights at Freddy's and Undertale?
...why?
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I don't think so? I mean Final Fantasy VII is still one of the most influential games of all time regardless of any hatedom that has accumulated. Undertale and FNAF are big but I'm not sure if they will stand the test of time in the same way yet.
i'll admit its overrated but it definatly doesn't suck
" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."Only FFII and FFIII have sucked.
VII more of a case of hype backlash
II was considered to drastic a change in fomula while III may have been a return to roots... was a Ball buster in difficulty
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!was 3 always hard or was it just the ds version cause my god i nearly quit a ff game over that one
" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."Nah.
All three fall under Hype Backlash for me. I wouldn't care about FNAF if it hadn't been crammed down my throat during my final year of high school, by the internet at large and by my friends - and now, even today, I have a strong dislike of the game/s. Undertale is a game I'm interested in and I enjoy the fanart and such, but for a solid 2 months the fanbase was rabid and unstoppable. Good luck being a gaming youtube channel or streamer without having people force Undertale and FNAF on you during their glory days. It was less "It's Popular, So It Sucks!" - which was still a factor to some - and more " RAWRRR XDDDD PLAY THIS GAEM IT'S LITRALLY THE BEST. INSTALLMENT. EVER OF ITS GENRE XDDDD" for months on end.
Final Fantasy 7 was just like that, for a period of years. It's one of Game FA Qs' top five, whenever there's a best game ever poll FF 7 is up there with the usual suspects like Super Mario World, Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and such. It's not that it's popular so much as it's built up to mythic levels of quality by one-track-minded superfans who trash other perfectly fine games unironically, because their game is the best game ever to them and they'll be damned if they won't try to ruin every other game to uphold the status quo. Lately I've been feeling a bit more chill about FF 7, because IMO the fanbase has chilled out mostly - it's at least not as present as it used to be - but for the longest time the hype around it was impenetrable and I resented it for being an overrated fandom Sacred Cow. I still feel that way about FF 6.
Those critiques are tied to the game's popularity, so maybe it does qualify as It's Popular, Now It Sucks!. But my root issues with those games, barring Undertale most of the time, isn't the popularity of them so much as the way that they're pushed onto everyone else by their undying superfans. Their popularity is a part of that, sure, but give me something good and popular that doesn't have hyperbolic, samey fans that act like a cult and I can at least ignore it as "not my thing" with good blessing. Best case scenario, I'll enjoy it perfectly fine as A Cool Thing.
Basic summation, FF 7 is less It's Popular, Now It Sucks! and more Hype Backlash thanks to its incredibly stubborn fanbase, at least as far as I see it.

Come sail your ships around me, and burn your bridges down.3 was actually harder on the NES. The DS version had to restrict the amount of enemies on the screen, rebalanced the classes and added a bunch of changes to make it easier.
That nightmare was the easier version?!?
" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."I can't compare them personally since I never played the NES version, but apparently every enemy in the game had its stats buffed in the DS remake to make up for less enemies being able to be on screen at once. They also buffed enemies that only ever appear alone and bosses.
The main reason people complain about FFIII being difficult is because of no save points in dungeons, something held over from the NES version.
Personally, I didn't think FFIII DS was that difficult, so long you make a balanced team and don't run from battles. I get saying that the systems are shallow compared to later games like FFV, but I didn't find it unbalanced, except for Garuda.
'Balanced team' lol, there were literally only 4 classes in the game that were usable and 2 of them are just upgrades of the other 2.
Garuda was a jerk.
Vanilla III wasn't to different in terms of difficulty though. Still pound for pound the hardest mainline FF though.
I think VII, IX, and IV are the 3 games in the series which tend to get the most Hype Backlash.
Also I stand by the belief at none of the mainline F Fs are difficult outside of certain bosses and minigames

GOH! JII! RAH!Well I mean, it's obviously an unbalanced team if you do something stupid like make a team of four Warriors. I said a balanced team, not a team that will take you end-game without issue.
Mobius and Brave Exius are fun but good lord are they not for those who have that need to grind
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!
He does, he gets a remix of his main theme. I'm pretty sure I posted that.
GOH! JII! RAH!
