Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

It's so streamlined that you could call it another hallway.

You gotta start somewhere.

I prefer Sazh to Hope as a synergist, since Haste is both good for offence and recovery, while Hope is fairly singleminded about applying defensive buffs despite that there's a timer. I guess it's good for bosses, but not for grinding.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

Everyone but Vanille learns haste so that really isn't a big issue.

Fang though learns the -ra spells which are 30 sec buffs but 2x more powerful, great for the short fights you need big buffs for.

Welp, finally starting a playthrough of FF 3. Is this the game where playing all the pianos gets you something? The fuckers booed me for not at all bad performance for the first one. And maybe watching the dancers? (Also I really like this sprite style.)

I think you're thinking of Final Fantasy V.

Well, I got to watch a dancer and play a piano, so I think I'm gonna try and do it in this one anyway just to see if something happens. Not like I've got something better to do if I've got the time to play a game.

To clarify- Yes, in Final Fantasy V, you can play pianos. You learn some of the Bard Songs from it. A few can be lost forever after certain points, so scour every town as soon as you get to it for pianos!

I sure said that!

"A few can be lost forever after certain points" seems to describe most things in Final Fantasy V, actually.

First I finish the Barrier Tower and learn I forgot to pick up the Blood Sword. Then, I finish Exdeath's Castle and learn I missed Carbuncle. Stuff like that can be really annoying.

Blood sword has a glorious 25% hit rate and has a magic damage calculation. Nothing of value was lost.

It does. Though I didn't really trust using the Blood Sword regularly since it hurts you and heals the enemy when used against undead. And undead are fairly common in V.

In FF 3 the only piano worth playing is the one in the pub where everyone starts dancing. Or was that only on the PSP version?

Re Final Fantasy 13 and parties:

Unless the game becomes way more challenging, I plan on switching my party often to keep things at least a bit more varied. I would probably use Lightning, Sazh and Vanille as my main three, though. Since I don't plan on tackling the super-hard sidequests, I don't really care about super-optimization or post-endgame potential and I can choose the characters I like. :P

Speaking of FFV I have to finish that game, I never got a chance to finish the game and although I had to 'cheat' on some points but I need to finish the game.

So apologies if I start a fight with this but is there anywhere, that you're aware of on the web, where there's some sort of compilation of every Word of God statement on the FFVII love triangle? I ask because I near constantly see people on both sides of the debate claiming the reference books etc. side with them, but obviously they're biased so just out of sheer curiosity I was wondering if there's any site that just presents everything matter-of-factly.

Clearly, the answer is that Tifa and Aerith got together after Cloud decided to spend all his time with Barret.

I think it was something like the 20th Anniversary guidebook said Cloud "Confirmed his feelings for Tifa under the Highwind." Which generally means that they did exactly what was implied in the game but their relationship status otherwise still seems to be "Its complicated."

I'm not a hardcore shipper or anything (though I admit to tending to gravitate toward Aerith), but I'm someone who's absolutely fascinated by fandom culture and therefore wonder whether something like this exists.

Thinking of starting up a new run on V.

May even go for some kind of Self-Imposed Challenge this time. Something similar to the Four-Job Fiesta, maybe?
