Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Going back to the Terribleness of Do C...

Something occurs to me.

Deepground has to have pretty much have wiped out 90% of the human population on the planet if they were gonna trick the planet into thinking it had suffered a Catastrophic extinction event to the point Chaos is trying to rest control from Vincent and Omega comes forth.

I mean Edge, Kalm and Junon-lost episode- are left ghost towns due to the cullings, Nibelheim despite being out in the middle of bug **** nowhere is under Deepground occupation. Wutai is mentioned having been raided as well with alot of people missing or dead. I think the only places not mentioned getting hit directly are costa del sol and Icicle... but if Deepground is at nibelheim I'm pretty sure they hit the other places on the map.

Do C is so ridiculously bad at trying to be dark and moody... something actaully dark and depressing happened and it flew completely over my head.

Keep in mind, something like 99% of the game takes place at night. Especially with the raids going on, people are probably hiding in their homes.

I never really understood what Deepground got from the Omega thing anyway. Weiss, sure I guess. He'll stick his consciousness into Omega or something and leave the planet to crumble away. (Wait, wouldn't he just die when Omega placed the lifestream into a new planet? Omega wouldn't be needed after that point). But the rest of Deepground...they'd just die with the rest of the planet. Sure, the part of the lifestream that composes them would travel to the new world, but FFVII never really hinted at a direct reincarnation type thing, so what's the point?

Not Three Laws compliant.

Artwork and to say I have it. I have an internet buddy that know Japanese.

[up][up]

The ultimate problem with not including the Online story which explains Deepground's motivations

Even if Deepground gains freedom... Most of them are complete nutjobs that can't rejoin society due to the hellish upbringing or due to the experiments. IE A Killer in a Cage and is still a Killer outside the cage. Gaining Freedom doesn't magically make that go away. Rosso is ironically the most aware of this between her asking Shelke what its like to be above ground and see the sky... and barely containing her impulse to attack Shelke out of habit. and there is no malice in the scene... Rosso is simply acting on the instincts and instructions that have been beaten into her.

However their devotion to Weiss is so absolute all of them dying just to revive Weiss and make him a Cosmic god would be worth it to them. They revere Weiss that much. Deepgrounds kinda got the WW 2 Imperial Japan thing going.

To them Weiss IS Deepground... and what better service then to die for Deepground to be immortal?

I think Rossi pretty much outright says "what Weiss desires, we desire". It's as simple as that.

Ironically the online mode has better writing than the actual game...and Argento is the only character not acting ridiculous.

Wait, there's a gold trophy for your party falling in battle? Is that the entire party through the PHS or is that just the three you have in the party at the time I wonder. Hilarious that it's a Gold Trophy.

I know it's one of the easiest games in the main series, but it's not that easy.

The remake needs to bring in an additional bonus boss battle. I suggest the Sapphire Weapon killed at Junon. Just say it has the ability to regrow heads and you gotta go kill it later as a optional super-boss. That'd rock so hard. I have always wanted to fight that thing normally but felt I got cheated from its death.

Nah just fight it headless, along the beach.

But you know the remake is going to have Genesis as an optional boss just cause it's required to pander to the fangirls.

Months ago, I said that they should have a scene where Cid punches out Genesis. That would be a good way to pander to fans.

Also, I tried out Record Keeper a bit more. I have discovered that the only way to have fun is to disable the Roaming Warriors.

Huh? But Roaminf Warriors are a good way to get the extra edge needed in tougher fights. Why disable them?

At the point I'm at (around level 15, 40 stamina, and most recently acquired Ranger), I can't have fun with them on. That's all I meant to say.

True in the beginning. They start getting useful when you tackle Elite dungeons.

Although support RW remain useful all along without breaking he curve in the early stages. Try to stack them early on, you will need them later - Boon, Lunatic High, Stoneskin II, Sentinel's Grimoire, Hymn of the Fayth, Planetary Protector...

VII progress- Forgot how stupid Hojo always was, considering his grand designs for both Nanaki and Aerith.

Got Flower Girl in party now, and there she'll stay so I can enjoy a character with Limit Breaks that aren't "Hit real hard".

I sure said that!

Hojo might be one of the reasons I experienced some Hype Backlash towards VII - I still love that game, but not as much as when I played it as a teen: he is so randomly evil it tends to fall flat compared to more interesting villains.

Trying to breed Aerith and Red is just...I mean, even when it kinda-sorta-moreorlessa happens in Fullmetal Alchemist, there is some explanation as to why a man would be crazy enough to try it (it's not justified in any way, but it doesn't come out of nowhere). Mad Scientists tend to have a real goal in mind, aside from "always doing the most evil thing possible". Hojo doesn't, he just kicks the dog - probably literally in Red's case - and that's it.

Add to that Sephiroth's motivations which are rather generic, and I would say that VII might be the main series episode with the weakest villains overall when it comes to storytelling.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. I's villain is super generic, and III's doesn't get the fleshing out it seriously needs. IX's shoots for sympathy at the end but kind of falls short due to previous actions.

And Tactics Advance's villain failed to convince a lot of people of its villainy, due to the writing.

I have only played from VI onwards (and haven't touched VIII), and I can't really blame early games for having rather generic characters, since they were pioneers of their genre. IX's Kuja is a flawed prototype that rebels against its creator - he does it in an absolutely wrong way (and is quite the sociopath), but there is a reason for his actions. As for TA it isn't part of the main series (I -> XIII) so I wouldn't blame it (plus the Big Bad in TA 2 is far more generic than Mewt - that might be the one weakness of the game).

From VI to XIV, Hojo/Sephiroth probably are the weakest villains, storytelling-wise. Even Seymour is less randomly evil, even if Blue-and-Orange Morality kicks hard. They aren't the less charismatic though, just the ones whose motives are just...there.

TA 2's main villain is generic as hell, but the game also has the Duelhorn and Frimelda side stories, so it's all good.

It can be said that TA 2 had more quality storytelling in it by far than TA. And many other games.
