Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Nope. The gameplay is just really boring and the story is dumb.

I remember the gameplay being just average, but haven't played the game since I was like 13.

The story would still be dumb, but the only reason to get angry with it is because of its connection to VII.

The gameplay is really, really plodding and bad, to be honest. The story's what kills the game stone dead, but it still would be really poor if it were its own thing.

I sure said that!

There are some good ideas in the story (Omega WEAPON is a logical continuation of the WEAPON concept), and having a game focus on Vincent isn't a terrible idea, but the game is just so melodramatic and over the top that it's impossible to take seriously.

Especially the stuff surrounding Lucretia and Shalua.

The music is probably the only redeeming aspects of the game

Story wise... Deep Ground is pretty much just there to be the villains since you only really learn anything about them in the cut Multiplayer stuff and a given next to no development outside of basic stuff.. Fun Fact the Tsviet Vincent interacts with the most... Azul... Vincent doesn't say one thing to him.

Vincent is basically written as the most stoic uninterested moopy version of a JRPG anti hero... "I guess i got to save the world now... Joy" I mean yeah the Tsviets are kinda like a silly colorful version of MGS enemies... so if Vincent had Snake's Deadpan snark at the absurdity you could atleast enjoy that... Nope Vincent doesn't even play it straight... He literally comes off as an actor sleepwalking through the movie just for the paycheck... That's how uninterested Vincent is in the story and by extension you should be in it and himself too.

If you thought Lucretia was just a poor woman whom Vincent was smitten with but was used for SCIENCE! There is a reason the phrase "I'm so sorry" is repeated constantly Its the game begging your forgiveness for having to put up with it.

Aerith's father Gast is non factor -even though The whole grow an ancient was His and Hojo's collective idea but this is the compilation's attempt to simplify things... They go through the trouble to give Vincent a younger look but don't give Hojo one... what.

Vincent as a Turk especially with the BC hints about him being a fairly high ranked one is completely unexplored... used only to do the tutorial training.

If the game is suppose to be about Vincent's sins and past... It does a poor job about being Vincent's sins and past.

The plot twist of who the real villain is especially stupid since well For a game that wanted to get away from Seph related villainy... and instead dealing with Shinra's black secrets... They went to far back to the well to justify the main villains existence... and then They just get rid of him in an out of nowhere fashion.

Dirge is the absolute definition of a game that needed another solid year, at the very least, to salvage. Like, it's not even that glitchy from what I remember of that one YT playthrough I watched years ago. But everything needed a good amount of thinking through to make it good. Hell, two extra years would be a more appropriate amount of time.

Joyless.

Yeah, that's a fitting descriptive. I'd be OK with this being completely ignored. It's the DMC 2 of the entire franchise. Like, you can find at least a few fans of more unpopular F Fs, like Mystic Quest or XIII, but the people who like Dirge are so few and far between so as to be pretty much extinct.

Man, if we had an FF MG Cross over...

I think if the game had more horror theme to it... it could have worked

Like Vincent would have Dream sequences about his various missions as a Turk but the dreams slowly distort into nightmare and his various beast forms are the bosses signifying him slowly losing control to Chaos as Omega's birth draws near.

The game introduces Vincent's father... to justify why Lucretia would spurn Vincent's affections.

You'd think such a character would be introduced to See Vincent in a light we never saw but the two don't interact ...at all

Personal experience time!tongue

My bro got a copy of Type 0 for the One. Astonishingly enough, the demo code of Final Fantasy XV still worked despite his copied being pre-owned. I assume the previous owner either got Type 0 as a gift and just didn't want it, or they really disliked Type 0 and didn't bother looking into the demo for XV. Or they just didn't care about XV in the first place. tongue

Anyways, regarding 0. From what I saw, it seems to fluctuate between looking great, looking but-not-enough-to-be-on-a-next-gen-system great, and looking like a slightly bloom-enhanced PSP title. For the most part, it looks good, but the portions where the quality drops is kind of noticeable.

Speaking as a back-seat gamer, the game itself seems interesting enough that I may play it, but I haven't really sat down to watch him play through a significant portion. My only complaint is that the opening (both upon disc-insert and when you start the game) felt like it went on a wee bit too long before you get into the game portion. The plot looks like it'll be an interesting one, however. It was interesting to here the word "L'Cie" in this game; I had nearly forgotten that this was original titled after XIII.

Combat seems speedy enough (reminds me a bit of Crisis Core), but leveling thirteen characters sounds like it'd make grinding a slog, especially since the game points out that shelved characters don't gain EXP but recommends that every character is equally leveled. That said, having a bunch of different characters around sounds like fun to me, since I love to change play styles often if a game allows me to.

Oh, and the voices feel largely hit-or-miss. There's been a couple of instances that feel really phoned it.

He hasn't started the XV demo yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the game's coming along since I kind of stopped paying attention to it lately.

The dub of the game is interesting because it was done way back when XV was still Versus and they decided to start the dub of both games at the same time because they thought Versus would be out the next year or so. The dub sat unused for years because they didn't think it would be a hit overseas and because the PSP was on its way out. This is also why XV has mostly used japanese voices in the trailers since they're redoing the dub but with the same actors(thus why the demo got updated when Noctis's english VA came back to the studio so he doesn't sound quite like, as we said, Batman)for what's left of the old stuff from Versus that they didn't throw out and all the new XV stuff from after Nomura left for KH 3 and VIIR. Now that they're getting closer to release(we should get the date at Gamescom in a week)most of the new trailers should be in english.

I will admit, I have a huge block with Tactics, almost as big as I have a block with VIII. Had I played it when it was released, I would probably have thoroughly enjoyed it, but now that I have played XII, TA & TA2, I just can't bring myself to play a game in an Ivalice full of Humes. That would be like Star Wars without aliens and droids.

Everyone keeps saying it is an excellent game, but every time I think of it, I think of "no mogs, no vieras, no bangaas, no seeq, no nu mou...".

FFExplorers is coming 2016!(Trailer) So I have 2 3DS games in 2016 I want to try out and they're both by SE.

Edit: 3 actually since we're probably getting the FF 1 remake for 3DS as a pre order bonus like Japan did.

I tend to enjoy universes a lot, so having to explore a duller, less complex version of these universes after getting their full extent during a previous experience does not excite me at all. That is my main Mass Effect-related fear for Andromeda, although I guess the writers will come around that (I hope so at least).
