Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I never entirely got how Tetra Master in IX worked, but I still had fun and enjoyed it.

I can figure it out well enough to win the mandatory tournament, but hell if I could explain how it works. Something about the arrows on the cards and the numbers/letters being in the hexadecimal system, I think.

I've always preferred Triple Triad, although it's been like four years since I've done a playthrough where I did everything card related. Soooo much resetting to get the right rules to spread/be abolished and make sure the Queen of Cards goes to the right place...

Looks more like Batman made armor based on Keyblade Armor there. tongue Looks cool though.

As for the VIII or IX card games, I can see them getting a separate release, especially when they teased the fact that the motorcycle mini-game from VII is being made into its own stand-alone title.

Though I thought Square had already made a stand-alone card game recently...

It does look mostly like Keyblade Armor, but the wings really give the impression of a Bahamut motif. Which just makes it even more awesome and effective at terrifying the superstitious and cowardly criminal element.

That Batman armour is sweet. Very reminiscent of Diabolos from VIII. I'm darkly curious to see if he does more crazy animu stuff to other Batman characters.

For me, its a toss-up between FFVI's ending sequence and the "you're not alone" sequence in FFIX.

Idk if I can choose just one favorite FF moment, but three that I can think of off the top of my head are the opera scene in FFVI, the ending scene of FFIX, and the Kilika sending in FFX.

In Final Fantasy VII, President Shinra was a lot easier to hate than Sephiroth. Destroying an entire sector of a metropolis to dispose of six or so terrorists is horrific. Using a demon-god's power to ...do ...something (probably to turn the planet into a galactic battleship) is too huge and fantastical to get that emotionally invested in.

It's also why Kefka poisoning a castle's water supply felt more evil than his rupturing of the world.

On that note, I'm rather disgusted with how some people treat Cyan. "Okay, sure, you watched your entire people - including your family and beloved king - die horribly before your very eyes. But that happened a year ago, you big baby! Just get over it, already!" They have a very strange idea of human psychology.

"L'Cie? Hehehe... Oh child, perish the thought. I'M MORE THAN THAT!"

Also the racetrack scene.

I also enjoy every scene with Dr. Cid.

""One day, Mr. 36 stopped moving. My friend who knows a lot of things says that this is what "death" was, and that we had to bury him. Mr. 36 is buried under the ground now, but I don't understand why. He's going to come out again one day, right? When he does, I'm going to wash him off in the pond."

Not the most heartwarming of moments, I know, but it kinda stuck with me.

I was going to include "all of Black Mage Village" as one of my favorite FF moments, but I figured it was too broad to count.

I love Vivi and the Black Mages so much. waii

FFIX in general is also a tad too broad to count.

For specific scenes... there's Galuf's utter badassery when facing Exdeath, the ending of Crisis Core, IX and X, 1000 Words fromn X-2...

Man, you're right. Every thing about Vivi and the Black Mages. They just make IX's story. Heck, Vivi may be a better foil for Kuja than Zidane.

Best moments from Final Fantasy games for me:

  • I: Beating the Four Fiends.
  • II: Finding the Emperor in Pandemonium in Hell and his Badass Boast.
  • IV: Cecil becoming a Paladin.
  • V: "Now me fight like men! And women! And women who dress like men!" and so forth.
  • VI: Getting the new Airship in the World of Ruin.
  • VII: Tifa fixing Cloud's mind in the Lifestream.
  • VIII: Going to go with everything to do with Squall.
  • IX: You're Not Alone. Easily my favourite moment of any Final Fantasy game ever.
  • X: The penultimate final boss or fighting Seymour the last time.
  • XII: Gabranth's "Even a stray has pride." scene.
  • XIII: Odin Eidolon battle or any moment where Lightning's honest about herself with Hope. Or Snow saving Hope right after Hope tries to kill him. Despite it's flaws, XIII had a lot of awesome moments.
  • XIII-2: Near the end where Serah tells Caius that she's willing to die to save the future.

I will never forget the scene where Bartz's hometown is engulfed by the Void and he just slams down on the Airship's controls and will not stop for a long, long time. It was an impressively emotional scene, considering the lack of nuance afforded by the spritework.

I sure said that!
