Yeah, the fact that Blackwall and Solas lie about their identities brings up some pretty unpleasant implications regarding the Inquisitor's consent, making those very dysfunctional.
I think Anders' relationship is a pretty well written abusive relationship. You can't use the fact that fanboys on the internet don't realize it's abusive to criticize it, I mean, have you seen fanboys? They wouldn't recognize it even if he tried to emotionally blackmail you into committing mass mur- oh wait.

Its funny that Solas is the only one willing to actually tell the Inquisitor to their face until he chickens out. Blackwall just leaves out of nowhere... RIGHT after sex too...
I dunno, Viconia got pretty intense at times, but at least a couple of her endings show her changing her ways, at least.
Now, a Solas romance where you drink from the Well? Now that's fucked up.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets. To be fair Solas immediately breaks up with the Inquisitor. And if he gets Mythal's geas thing at all he doesn't get until after he leaves.
The whole blatant lying thing is uh... uncomfortable however.
Wait... is THAT why people accuse Blackwall of raping the Inquisitor?

Its TECHNICALLY rape; its sex under false pretences of one of the partner's identities. Its not one I'm willing to raise hell over though. Its entirely up to the Inquisitor on how to deal with it so I'm content.
x4 Blackwall does almost tell the Inquisitor everything to their face before chickening out. He and Solas are quite a pair.

Gone to Faerie, no forwarding address. (AO3)My Femquisitor romanced Blackwall and I thought it was a pity you couldn't sentence him to death yourself. I guess not freeing him from prison would get him executed but I wanted to do it myself, that would've been a nice tragic spin to my Inquisitors character development.

I think I've finally weened myself off Bioware romances.
I wish there was a Mass Effect-style interrupt where, when Blackwall walks up the Inquisitor's dias, you can shove him off. Boy, you are already in hot water, don't disrespect.
I understand why some people say Blackwall's love scene was rape, but honestly I'd just call it fucked up. He didn't lie about himself specifically to bang her. The fuck-and-duck was really shitty though.
Lol, the Solas romance gets way more fucked up if she drank from the well. If Solas takes Flmythal's essence, does that mean...? Though it would be a funny reversal if Lavellan used the connection to track him down. "Muahaha, thought you could just kiss and run? Not today dear hahren!"
@ Cozzer — Agreed. Lots of people still say Christine should've stayed with the Phantom and left Raoul. (even ALW...)
And oh God I may have to bust out Photoshop for that image of Fenris addicted to 7-11. "When the voice in your head says you're better off dead, don't open a vein! Just kill the arcane!"

Freeing Blackwell just to kill him yourself sounds like waste of resources and sounds waste of making Orlesians mad :P
Making Orlesians mad is never a waste

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.I like the way you think.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I've actually had a friendly flame war with such people in real life. I blame Romanticism and its notion that feelings should be measured by how much they're intense and not by how much they're healthy.
Another reason why it doesn't surprise me that people on the Internet justify Anders is that the very first thing I thought when I saw just how self-righteous he had become between DA:Awakening and DA2 was "It's almost like he spent the timeskip on Tumblr".

Indeed. Seriously your Dragon Age 2 party feels like it was a microcosm of tumbler,or at least what most people think of Tumbler. You have the two Social Justice warriors who should be allied, but do to various issues hate each other more than they hate the actual people in power. The sluty chic, the guy who just wants to post his stories (that always feature espies of his friends), the cute girl who is into some really weird shit, the one religious guy who for some reason is on the site, and you have Hawke being the beleaguered mod trying to hold the thing tougher, not sure what role Bethany or Carver would play.
Edit: Oh and I also forgot about Aveline.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Bethany/Carver are the little sibling that insisted on getting an account and now Hawke's scrambling to keep them out of the nastier parts of the site.
Carver joining the Templars is just a metaphor for him going punk and falling in with the hipsters.
Also ha. Mods on Tumblr. Please.

Varric and Aveline are cool people, though. (And thus the game doesn't let you romance them)
Sebastian is blandess incarnate, but I love his Aesop Amnesia if you spare Anders.
"I want revenge, Revered Mother."
"You need to stop wanting revenge, Sebastian."
"Ok, I don't want revenge anymore."
...
*Hawke lets Anders go*
"I WILL DESTROY THIS WHOLE CITY TO GET REVENGE."

Man, half the reason I spare Anders is because I love seeing Sebastian lose his shit over it.
Nah, Anders just caused friggin fantasy 9/11 and is proud of it, he doesn't get spared. Also, the people of Kirkwall need a fucking break.
I'd like to spare Anders and have the option to kick Sebastian's ass when he goes in REVENGE mode, though. Seriously, I paid real money for your blandness and you repay me by becoming another jackass who causes trouble for the city I'm trying to protect?
I'm all for sacking Kirkwall, so long as the people are evacuated beforehand. That city is pretty much the Hellmouth.
Depending on how you treat Anders, he can be very remorseful—it's implied Vengeance forced it. Of course that doesn't excuse anything, but it's funny as shit when Anders is sitting there ready to die, Sebastian demanding his head, and Hawke giving zero fucks except getting this show under control. Goodness I love Seb's hissy fit.
@ Pyrogenic Sorry, I don't have a tumbler, was just going off of what everyone else said about the sight.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Yeah, Kirkwall just needs to go. Burn it to the ground and salt the earth beneath it.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.If you've been friends with Anders, Justice never becomes Vengence (or at least not in conversation but I'd argue he is anyway) and Anders fully believes that blowing up the Chantry was ritious.
If you rivaled him, He is completely a slave to Vengence and remorceful of what he did and all but begs you to kill him to end it.
Both Blackwall and Solas's romances in Inquisition are pretty unhealthy at points.
As is Morrigan's, kind of.
But if you want really unhealthy, go back to Baldur's Gate II and romance Viconia. That is some... stuff.
