unfortunately Most of the big ones were kind of useless. A charizard is a pretty big target.
Ghosts and psychics were probably used to defend high profile locations i.e. you have the general who knows classified information constantly guarded by pyschics and ghosts.
Small rodent types would make great recon. Just throw a camera on their back.
however for the most part in a gun fight, you can't get a pokemon close enough to attack. Though I imagine a flamethrower down a corridor would pretty much clear it out. And they apparently have much more fuel than an actual flamethrower.
Though I find this project pointless. As it's pretty much rule of cool to hell with realism. Unless you want to work outside of cannon and use realism. Then you would have pokemon with very very small attacks. A short burst of flame, water, ect.
so yea. have fun with that.
p.s.
If you going to name this...thing
name it the wardex
because that's just awesome.

Read the main thread. It's not just rule of cool.
Proud member of the IAA What's the point of being grown up if you can't act childish?Pokemon Ranger 2 makes reference to the idea of Pokemon being used as soldiers in a war, so this isn't completely unfounded.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! You could use Psychics and Ghosts to do recon too.
Another Pokémon thread! Soon we'll need our own subforum :]
It Just Bugs MeLt. Surge was in some war, and he's from America.
So is Isshu separate from America? :\
The Protomen enhanced my life. While were on the subject of Gym Leaders, I guess Sabrina could have been raised as a human experiment or something.
GOH! JII! RAH!^^ I'd assume Isshu and Orre are both regions in America.
Consider the leaders of Cipher. They don't look fully human anymore, and could have part of a human augmentation project during one of the wars.
Proud member of the IAA What's the point of being grown up if you can't act childish?Neither does Geetis, either.
Watch SymphogearI wonder if the 'mons fielded by military forces are specifically raised for the military? I can't imagine that letting some recruit take some 'mon that he raised from an egg and brought up to never fight to the finish would fare well on a (non-sporting) battlefield...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...I imagine they're intelligent enough to be conditioned for warfare regardless of what a Pokémon had been used for in the past. Much like a human has to undergo weeks of physical and mental conditioning to be prepared to take another's life, so too must any Pokémon charged chosen to serve alongside its trainer. However....
On a similar note, would a Pokémon that had once served in the military be able to participate in non-lethal combat afterward? It's already hard enough for humans to turn off that survival mindset after leaving a war situation, and it would probably be harder for creatures still driven largely by instinct
^^ Well, I guess the fact that prehistoric Pokemon according to our fanon have no sense of restraint, a problem in sport battling, would probably be less of an issue for military trainers.

Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.^^ If Lt. Surge is anything to go by, then probably. Though I would imagine that doing so safely would require thorough mental deprogramming, and that there's probably quite a stigma attached to using a 'mon that can potentially relapse back into its mental state during military service...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...Shell-Shocked Veteran and The Fettered? Possible Superpowered Evil Side?
Proud member of the IAA What's the point of being grown up if you can't act childish?Should I go and fish up those Pokemon war stories on SA's Pokemon Platinum LP?
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!Certainly, though I figure that we'll be doing something somewhat different.
Proud member of the IAA What's the point of being grown up if you can't act childish?^ Yeah, those horror stories were just a little too heavy on shoehorning in mons into combat applications (don't give the job of bombing runs to something that unlike a plane, needs to eat, sleep, and be healthy)...
Let's play a game about Pokémon...Also Surge's war flashback from the Nuzlocke Comics...
The Protomen enhanced my life.We could use those stories as a basis.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Indeed, I see a mix of machines, human infantry, and 'mons.
Humanoid Psychics and Fighting types I can see wearing full uniforms, since they're not that far off from being people themselves.
Proud member of the IAA What's the point of being grown up if you can't act childish?^ Eh, it would probably get in their way too much to really be useful (but it'd definitely look cool :3)...
Let's play a game about Pokémon...I can see Lucario's Aura coming into play, that and Psychics' Teleport, Future Sight, stuff like that...
The enemy must use Dark Pokemon as Psychic buffers.
The Protomen enhanced my life. The Mystery Dungeon ascots are a holdover from human militaries
For instance, I can see the Machoke taking on a role similar to the Ogryns in 40K(More emphasis on CQC and heavy weapons than meatshields though); big tan uniforms with Heer-esque helmets.

Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
This is connected with the The Pokédex Extended Fanon Edition Project.
The topic is how Pokémon have influenced history and been used in warfare within the world being created, going as far back as the Middle Ages, if so wished.
Part of this includes what possible efforts were made to counter the powerful creatures, conceivably dealing with how Orre became the wasteland that it is now.
