Because we've said several times on this thread that it's not really an example?

How is it not an example? Ken is the antagonist and a sizable portion of viewers sympathize with and root for him over Barbie.

Just imagine something here.

The film paints him as in the right and we are meant to agree with him that is how. The film goes out of its way to point out that he is right and has the Barbies realize this. Rooting for the Empire only really works if we are meant to disagree with the villain.

Its the same reason that Ken is no longer listed under Unintentionally Sympathetic because the film points out that he is in the right.

Also trying to enforce patriarchy and make the Barbies stepford wives is gross, which the film also calls him out on.

Yeah. So it's not really an example.

To be fair, I wouldn't say that the stuff he did being "gross" is in and of itself a reason to not have a draco entry. Obviously he doesn't count anyway, but the villain doing bad stuff is, like... the point.

@Bullman Even if Ken is depicted as a villain who has a point, the film portrays Ken as wrong in taking over Barbieland and expects us to disagree with his takeover of Barbieland and side with Barbie in her attempt to topple the Kens' patriarchy, yet people still root for Ken to win over Barbie and for the Kens to stay in power in Barbieland. Effectively, the film portrays his acts as wrong, yet some viewers still rooted for him, which is the trope.

I still don't think it counts sorry. The movie lends him to much sympathy and treats him as in the right. Even saying it portrays him as in the wrong in the last act is not completely true. it portrays him as a misguided kid more than a legit evil villain. So, personally I think it should stay cut. That however is up to the thread to decide. I am good with what they decide either way.

Is Ken actually portrayed as a villain, though? Or just someone in the wrong? Just because the movie expected people to side against him, that doesn't mean they expected him to be seen as evil. Rooting for the Empire seems to require that the villain is, well, objectively a villain as far as the story is concerned and not just someone who the hero needs to take down. From all of this, Ken seems more like an antagonist than a villain. There is a difference.

An Anti-Villain is still a villain. The Kens are the antagonists of the movie and are positioned as the one we're supposed to root against in the climax. That's more than enough for them to count.

[up][up] Exactly Ken never fully becomes a villain but rather becomes a misguided antagonist who sees things like a child would.

[up] Again he never fully becomes a villain but is rather treated like a kid lashing out and at the end another victim of the patriarchy. At least that is how I read the movie.

If you want to nitpick it, we could just merge the example for it into the Do Not Do This Cool Thing entry.

[up] I would be okay with that. Though it would need to be rewritten before merging.
