Inappropriate Trivia and YMMV flagging (Questionable question marks)

You know those white and blue question mark icons which appear next to some links? The ones which have the hovertext, "This example contains a TRIVIA entry. It should be moved to the TRIVIA tab", or the YMMV variant? I've seen several puzzling applications of these flags in the last few months, and today I found one which is undeniably inappropriate. It's a TRIVIA flag attached to an episode title on Planet of Hats. It's placed at the start of the external link in the following line:

• Did You Get a New Haircut?: Kirk asks Saavik this in "The Search for Spock Part Two", failing to notice she's actually been Other Darrined.

If we move this to TRIVIA, we'd have to move the entire list of tropes on this page to TRIVIA since they all contain an episode title as an external link! But the really weird and annoying thing is there's nothing in the page source, so I can't just edit it out.

Last week or so, I'm sure I found an incontrovertably inappropriate YMMV flag too; it described something which happened within the work, but I was too fatigued to post about it or even keep the page open. I've seen several other flags, especially YMMV, where I could hardly believe they were YMMV or TRIVIA but couldn't come up with a bulletproof argument that they weren't. It's awfully confusing.

Trivia flags are known to not be meant to show up as often as they do, only when they're the main bullet point on a work's main page. I guess they haven't figured out how to fix it yet.

Either way way an [invoked] (with double brackets) tag will make the flag not appear, though that's only to be used with YMMV items if it's actually an in-universe reaction.

Thanks. I'll remember the [invoked] tag for YMMV items. It does work for this link, but putting one next to an episode title feels awfully strange. Shall I post that edit, or leave it as it was for discussion?

I think it's most helpful to put the invoked tag right beside the trivia link. The icon getting misplaced elsewhere in the entry (seems to only happen when external links are involved) is a separate issue. Sometimes I let trivia items slide, but for in-universe/invoked/discussed YMMV items, I always place the tag just before or after the YMMV thing.

Yeah, in this case the link to The Other Darrin is what's triggering the flag and it's getting a) put in the wrong place and b) ideally shouldn't be there at all.

from what i understand when a piped YMMV or trivia link generates the flag, it always shows up next to the first relevant link in the entry. it doesn't show up next to further YMMV or trivia links, or any mainspace links, but it does show up next to the first outbound link if the entry has one, which is probably a prioritization error. i usually put the [invoked] tag at the start or end of an entry to make it look cleaner when editing, but that's just me.

You should only use the invoked tag when it's actually valid, tho. Don't just use it to hide the tags, because in a majority of cases, the trivia or YMMV links should not be there.

right sorry i thought that was implicit based on the earlier posts
