Note: This thread was proposed by Twiddler.

Pastimes Prove Personality is an older trope with no on-page examples, but plenty of wicks. It is listed on No On-Page Examples without a reason. It was added there in 2019 by crazysamaritan with the edit reason "no clue why this page has no example and 100+ wicks". Past discussion about this on ATT

Should it be removed from No On-Page Examples and its off-page examples crosswicked to its page?

Update: This thread's scope has been expanded to look for other questionable additions to the Administrivia. No On Page Examples index, particularly other pages with questionable restrictions against on-page examples.

Examples have been added to Pastimes Prove Personality. Combed through all the wicks since there weren't all that many and took, for the most part, what had correct usage and context. Elaborated on a couple and added bullets for separate character entries in the couple cases where all the characters were listed as one big example.

Well, I guess that just leaves adding on-page examples to Info Dump and Constructive Criticism, since the courses of action for everything other than those two and Pastimes Prove Personality was just a matter of adjusting the indexing instead of anything related to the examples (since this thread was for cleaning up the NOPE index instead of cleaning up the tropes on it).

Constructive Criticism doesn't have an incredibly large amount of wicks, so it probably wouldn't take long, while Info Dump has over 2,000 wicks. With the latter, I wouldn't worry about the crosswicking being thorough to the point that subpages are required; we can just add a similar amount of on-page examples to the other two and kick the rest to a Projects thread for crosswicking if necessary.

There's 29 works on the PPP page, unsure if CC will reach that number. I think 30-35 would be a good place for ID to start off with, but my brain was a bit broken trying to compile examples for that. PPP was a much more straightforward project to tackle.

Well, now that I think of it, I suppose one thing that would make Constructive Criticism a bit harder than Pastimes Prove Personality is the fact that the former is IUEO and some of the wicks might be out-of-universe (since IUEO restrictions are often overlooked at best and ignored at worst) and thus should be removed instead of being added to the on-page example list.

I wouldn't worry about going through every Constructive Criticism wick to purge out-of-universe examples; I'm just saying that if anyone working on its on-page example list finds any, removing them while crosswicking in-universe examples would be killing two birds with one stone. (I'm not sure if there's a Projects thread for cleaning up out-of-universe wicks for IUEO tropes, but I wouldn't be against there being one if there isn't already one, since the fact that those tropes are already IUEO means TRS isn't needed to kill out-of-universe wicks on sight.)

I updated the to-do list since Pastimes Prove Personality now has on-page examples, leaving the other two.

Triple posting because I crosswicked the Constructive Criticism examples from work pages, so that page is out of the way. That just leaves Info Dump, which has significantly more wicks than the other two, but we don't need to crosswick all of them; I think what was previously mentioned about adding 30-35 examples sounds good.

I'm gradually working on building an on-page example list for Info Dump using a sandbox. I've been trying to go with at least ten examples per medium (going with random pages by using the random number generator I use for wick checks to determine which pages to grab examples from); I figured that would be a decent number to fill out the page, especially since a lot of wicks are inline instead of being for examples.

Trope Repair Shop: No On-Page Examples
24th Mar '23 11:54:32 PM

Crown Description:

The No On Page Examples index has attracted some questionable entries, similarly to what TRS previously fixed with Definition Only Pages and No Straight Examples Please, and it's been proposed that some listings either be moved to other Example Sectionectomy indexes or removed entirely. What should be done with these pages?
