I'm...not really sure what the trope is about, but I will say I find the OP much more parsable as an image.

OP is better in concept due to the combo ranking being visible, but I would prefer a different screenshot. The composition is a bit funky.

It's a cool image, but it only displays the action without the style. Without the rank system, it just looks like a generic Hack and Slash or Beat 'em Up.
This one actually shows the rank.
