Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard (MB) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.

Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a MB has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's MBs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any MB link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an MB link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved MBs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their MB equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.

Yo, because of the new character rules, Fred Jones and Scorpia are being merged back. I changed the potholes at YMMV and the Sandboxes to Mayor Pain and Nebulous Evil Organisation, and added the Sandboxes to the swap list.

Confused as to how Nebulous Evil Organization works as a good pothole for a character’s name, it feels like tagging someone as The Empire, that’s a group trope.

I noticed an entry for Judge Dredd on DC Universe, but as far as I can tell it's just a licensed title with no connections to the rest of the DCU—it's its own separate continuity from other Judge Dredd stuff, but still an equivalent situation to Marvel publishing G.I. Joe or Star Wars comics.
Would it make sense to move this back to the main page?

An Eldritch Troper
Been wondering the same thing. Also, it would be helpful to merge the Dredd: Furies and DC Comics entries with the other Judge Dredd examples into a tree.
I additionally noticed that Charise Carnes from the same DC subpage is at Post-Crisis, but she appears and belongs in the New 52 continuity. Can this also be fixed?

I have some observations and questions about MagnificentBastard.Kamen Rider and MagnificentBastard.Super Sentai:
- The Magnificent Bastard pages for both of these series use the old format of their franchise's respective Complete Monster pages instead of their current format. So am I allowed to change restructure both of these Magnificent Bastard pages so that they match the Complete Monster pages? Here's the old and current format of the Monster pages:

- The two entries from the Space Squad films listed on the MagnificentBastard.Film O To S aren't included on the Super Sentai page despite the films being crossovers involving the franchise and the fact that crossovers are usually included on a franchise's MB pages. Am I allowed to add the two Space Squad entries to the Super Sentai page? I'll add the entries below Captain Marvellous's writeup since the films released after Gokaiger.

Again, I know basically nothing about this franchise, so someone please let me know if there's a better way to do this.
I'm currently looking at the Super Mario Bros. page, and I'm noticing that Bowser has been recognized as an Magnificent Bastard in several games. Makes sense considering he's the Big Bad of the franchise overall. I'm wondering wondering we should give Bowser his own tree, and have a separate session for the other characters. Didn't Sonic the Hedgehog's page used to have something similar for Dr. Eggman?

Have some cuts from Batman. Original discussion.
- Zombie, Bird, and Trogg are Bane's three accomplices and former fellow inmates of Peña Duro during his first sojourn to Gotham City, and are impressive figures on their own and as a team. Zombie witnesses Bane's birth and cares for his dying mother. Trogg offers to protect a young Bane from a pedophile if he will sneak into tight places before Bane proves his own mettle. The falconer known as Bird initiates an alliance with Bane by sending him messages during his solitary confinement, and first sells him on the idea of going to Gotham City to fight Bird's underworld enemies and Batman. After their escape from prison, Zombie reproduces the Venom formula from memory while Trogg creates the Venom tank. They play crucial roles in causing a mass breakout at Arkham Asylum to wear down Batman, and also provide serious challenges to Batman and Robin with their own unique combat styles. Their loyalty to Bane never wavers, and even after being arrested, they scoff at the notion of betraying him in exchange for leniency.
Zombie is responsible for reproducing Venom for Bane, and Trogg has two or three moments of cleverness with robotics. However, outside of that they’re just slightly more competent than usual minions and tools to Bane’s machinations. That bit about Trogg saving Bane to use him to sneak into places is inaccurate; another guy said that in the same panel he appears in, so it was probably assumed to be him by mistake. The “serious challenge” they pose is, again, just lasting slightly longer than usual before Batman beats them. Overall, the two aren’t quite enough to make it for this trope imo.
Of the three, Bird is the one who stands out the most as a genuinely intelligent partner for Bane, regularly spying on others and serving as his chief advisor. However, he returns in an Azrael miniseries about five years after Knightfall, where Bane unceremoniously betrays him, addicts him to Venom, and leaves him pathetically writhing on the floor as his mind deteriorates into nothing. Way too undignified a death, and I don’t think it’s enough to escape Depending on the Writer when his only other major storyline was Knightfall.

Bane addicts Bird to Venom? That sounds rather cruel for someone (Bane) who IS a CM.

Nah that's kind of tame by post crisis batman standards. Off the top of my head. Clayface runs a sucidie child cult of his fans who he grooms to kill themselves and firefly turns the homeless into living bombs to blow up the city. Plus bane is q Noble Demon anyway.
