Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) are created when individual characters have so many trope examples that they can't reasonably be included on a shared page.
The Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy details the rules that apply to these pages. All Character-Specific Pages must also follow the basic How to Create a Character Page policy, as well as the wiki's more general policies about spoilers and examples.
This cleanup thread handles the following tasks:
- Reviewing and approving new CSP proposals. All new potential CSPs must be reviewed and, if necessary, cleaned up before they're created.
- Agreeing on page names for new CSPs.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a new CSP is created.
- Reviewing existing CSPs if there's a concern that they need cleanup, or if it's believed that the character may no longer qualify for a page.
- Merging existing CSPs into other character pages when necessary.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a CSP is removed/merged.
- Creating, updating and cutting redirects, as necessary, to reflect these splits and merges.
Crowners are not normally required but, where appropriate, can be used to formalise decisions on any of these points.
If a character no longer qualifies for a CSP, it's often more practical to turn the CSP into a redirect than to cut the page entirely. This keeps the page history visible to users, and also helps to steer offsite 'inbound' traffic (search engine results) to the right place. With that in mind, cut requests for CSPs may be declined and referred to this thread if they don't have a clear consensus.
Comments linking back to this thread can be added to CSPs when needed - e.g. to confirm their creation was approved, to warn tropers that a cleanup is in progress, or to note the date and outcome of a more recent review.
We also have some more general threads for character page help -
- Character Page Cleanup: for trope misuse, zero-context examples, spoiler tagging issues etc.
- Are these character tropes?: for queries about whether particular tropes belong on a character page or on the work's page.
This is not a policy discussion thread, it's a cleanup thread — any requests for policy changes need to be raised in Wiki Talk.
Mod update 07 Mar 2024, reflecting new CSP policy, updated again 22 Mar 2024 to mention redirects for removed CSPs
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups.
- The character's folder is cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples and Wall of Text entries and removing any outdated, misused, or non-character tropes.
- A character's folder is at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters (with spaces). Here is a byte counter.note
- The current character page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
Splitting a character into their own page is a major change and needs to be run by the community before it is enacted. Even if you believe a character meets these requirements, they should be run through this thread first. Having other tropers take a look can help spot issues you may not notice or believe to be issues.
Per How to Create a Character Page, character-specific pages should only include tropes that describe the character. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask the Are these Character Tropes? thread.
If you have concerns with a general character page, they have their own separate cleanup thread, as do the self-demonstrating character pages.

Agreed, sounds good!
The SNK game pages as a whole have a massive problem in that apparently someone thought that the OG game page should be the only one with actual info, leaving us with incredibly weird entries that will reference everything from both KOF and OG SNK continuity despite this mix up being a no-no for most franchises, where characters in different continuities have different pages no issue.
I think it's worth bringing them up to the general clean-up thread to get rid of this issue.
I discussed yesterday on the Character Pages cleanup thread that some character sub-pages for Neptunia should be combined into smaller groups, as none of the pages exceed over 250k. Here's the estimated characters for the current pages.
- Main CPUs - 120,571 characters
- Candidates - 42,270 characters
- Other CPUs - 83,396 characters
- Oracles - 15,225 characters
- Makers - 57,951 characters
- Gold Third - 37,781 characters
- Antagonists - 170,885 characters
- Others - 30,130 characters
- Spin-off Characters - 63,681 characters
The CPU pages combined make 246,237. Oracles and Others combined make 45,355. Oracles, Others, and Spin-off Characters combined make 109,036. Makers and Gold Third combined make 95,732. Only Antagonists stays since it was already combined with the equally small Major Antagonists sub-page.
"The name's Uzume Tennouboshi! Yeah, it's pretty badass, I know." - Uzume, Megadimension Neptunia VIIif you think that’s helpful, sounds good
I think they did it that way because there used to be a time when every SNK franchise that isn't KOF was all dead, but yeah, with a lot of new stuff like Samurai Shodown 2019 or City of the Wolves having come up that should be addressed.
The combined count of the CPU pages is close enough to 250k that it might be worth leaving them separate (it's closer to 200k when you leave out the duplicative navigation stuff and commented-out note, but still on the high side). And since this is my first time posting in this thread:
So I didn't participate in the discussion that led to the updated guidance, and I only recently realized that it happened and that this thread exists in its current form, but I recently saw this in the discussion to enact it:

thank you for the helpful insight
[5x] Go for all the merges but the CPUs
Got another easy merge
I understand keeping the pages the way they are, but theoretically, you could alter each trope descriptions as to not border on Wall of Text (I myself has been a victim of this), or because the original entries didn't give out a proper description for the trope or were written in a way that relied on Fan Myopia.
As for the other pages, I propose merging Makers and Gold Third to Characters.Neptunia Makers And Gold Third; while the pages for the spin-off, Oracle, and other main series characters could be merged to Characters.Neptunia Other And Misc Characters.
I don't want to go for a full-on merge first since some of those pages (especially Spin-off Characters and Others) still have low-context examples and empty folders, both currently commented-out. It'll be better if I start with a sandbox first.
"The name's Uzume Tennouboshi! Yeah, it's pretty badass, I know." - Uzume, Megadimension Neptunia VIIBumping
Again, sorry, I have a tendency to bump posts when they don't get a response in the next five or so hours. I may do the sandboxes tomorrow.

"The name's Uzume Tennouboshi! Yeah, it's pretty badass, I know." - Uzume, Megadimension Neptunia VIIYou don't need to bump when it hasn't been a day and your question is still on the last page. People may or may not answer when they check the thread.
If you want to sandbox first, you can just do that.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI feel like John Wick (John Wick) (60,180 bytes) and John Wick - John's Family (7,904 bytes) should be merged into one page John Wick John And Family.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadagreed
~Space KABOOM - thanks for doing the Geese / Terry merges. On SNK, I noticed that the Art of Fighting page is split, when all characters from across the series could comfortably (140k bytes) fit on one main page — should I merge?

- Mega Man (Classic) Villains can absorb Mega Man (Classic) - Dr. Albert W. Wily if someone wants to (about 125k-126k total).
- Though Wily's also in X somewhat, so...shrug.
- Mega Man X - Heroes can absorb Mega Man X: X & Mega Man X: Zero (I think a little under 200k total).
- THAT said, both are also part of Mega Man Zero, so...shrug.
- Mega Man X - Villains can absorb Mega Man X: Sigma, but Mega Man X - Maverick Bosses is becoming too big.
- Mega Man Zero Antagonists is over 184k, while Mega Man Zero: Weil is over 51k, so I think the latter's okay to stay separate.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsYeah, it can be merged without problem when the pages are still so small. I don't know why Characters.Art Of Fighting I exists when its individual video game page is still not created yet.
In regards to Teen Titans (2003):
- Teen Titans (2003): Teen Titans (72,403)
- Teen Titans (2003): Robin (40,982)
- Teen Titans (2003): Starfire (43,733)
- Teen Titans (2003): Beast Boy (43,805)
- Teen Titans (2003): Raven (44,153)
- Teen Titans (2003): Cyborg (42,879)
- Teen Titans (2003): Terra (40,908)
I'm on it - thank you
Edit - ok that's done. We might want to look at The King of Fighters. It's a bit of beast, but looks like there's some easy merges?
Edited by lexii on Apr 20th 2024 at 2:27:39 PM
I'm thinking that maybe we can make two separate pages, one for the boys and one for the girls?
Not sure if this is the right place to bring it up but Administrivia.Character Specific Pages is still indexed at the bottom of each of the pages, even though the list was moved to Administrivia.List Of Character Specific Pages.
So is Character Specific Pages for some reason.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Draftsx6 The King of Fighters: Heroes (66,000 chars) and The King Of Fighters Ash Crimson (46000 chars) are extremely easy merges
The King Of Fighters Rivals and The King Of Fighters Iori Yagami are both easy merges too, with each standing at 45000 characters each.
Edited by Remulus on Apr 20th 2024 at 11:38:59 AM
This can be all merged without exceeding the 250k limit.
