Carrying over from this thread:

There's some (including me) who believe that Just for Fun pages need standards as to what can stay and what can go. It's currently a wastebin namespace where things like trope pages for Shows Within Shows (e.g. Fix-It Felix Jr., Dedede: Comin' at Ya!, Horsin' Around), pages for hypothetical works (such as Uwe Boll's Darkstalkers and Sonic Revolution), old injokes (such as Candle Jack), and other things that should be covered in other parts of the site (such as Examples Searching for a Trope [actually in Main/]). There are some things that can likely stay (like Troper Types), but this thread is to discuss guidelines for the namespace.

If we're going to do this again, my vote is that JFF should have a strictly limited set of guidelines for what goes in there, and it should not be the dumping ground for whatever glop extrudes from people's brains.

My concern is that adding strict guidelines would defeat the point of having it. This wiki is meant to be fun and while our focus on cleanup and quality control might make it easy to forget that, I don't want to see the silly corner of the wiki lose all of its charm and purpose.

Guidelines, sure. We can't just use it as a dumping ground. But lets not forget that this is just for fun.

Okay. So as long as some old running gag such as Candle Jack isn't a pothole magnet used everywhere on the wiki (or is used Egregiously)note , it can stay in JFF. Shows within shows can go in the medium namespace of their parent work, and the hypothetical work pages can maybe be deleted.

Examples Searching for a Trope can go to the cutlist, we already have Trope Finder.

Remember that we also have Sugar Wiki and Darth Wiki for some of this wackiness. It might be nice just to clarify what goes where.

The only hard guidelines I can think of that don't directly run contrary to JFF's purpose are:

  • No hosting straight-up fanfiction through JFF such as fan ideas or fan expansions - cuts have already been issued in the past for this (most notably the various Super Smash Bros. Ultimate idea pages.) Fully unpublished works that aren't satire need to be moved to Darth (e: and if the intent is that they'll never happen, then the Hypothetical Works idea mentioned above might work for that.)
  • As Fighteer mentioned, if you can reasonably stick the page in another namespace on Sugar, Darth, or even main, do it there (after following procedure and site rules, of course.) After all, if the whole point of JFF is stuff that doesn't exactly fit our mission, then anything that belongs in an actual namespace doesn't belong in JFF.

Everything else might need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
