So uh quick question, is this a sci-fi game? Fantasy? Both?
It is a sandbox platformer, think of Mario Odyssey, A Hat in Time and Banjo-Kazooie.
Didn't exactly answer my question, I asked what genre it was story-wise. The impression I'm getting is a Science Fantasy.
Yes, mainly. It could go off the rails of this theme with the varying worlds though.
Having a work be all over the place thematically like that can be a big risk. What elements tie all these different themes together? What’s the story?
They should have sent a poet. These worlds are actually simply divided into various parts of the Earth (par Test World), and it was relatively normal until the Music Notes escaped from their digital prison and used their reality warping powers, shaping the areas around the individual notes to their liking. This resulted in the globe to look like a dance floor of colours with varying degrees.
I'd like to discuss two different worlds that Elektro would go through in his first sandbox platforming game. I will provide a description of each of the worlds and their associated tropes as their portfolios.
Elektro's Home - Elektro's home is a MegaCity, with hints of GraffitiTown, if you are at his place, there are distant skyscrapers, registering it partially SkyscraperCity. Most of the buildings are tricked out with cool neon lights. This world acts as the game's hub world.
Haunted House - The game's Big Boo's Haunt with a twist or two. It primarily features a mechanic in which that the darkness would slowly consume your HP if you stay in it long enough. You can survive this by staying in the bright lights provided by the moon and the lights in the house (chandeliers, lightbulbs, e.c.t). Its basement has a dash of Blackout Basement and Flash Black Galaxy. The main boss fight is a grandfather clock, in which the arena gets progressively smaller and smaller as the only surviving light bulb dims throughout the fight. To make things a bit worse, if the clock strikes an hour, Elektro would immediately die, so it is a time based battle.
As for the story, this house was owned by someone's grandmother, who recently died and had inherited everything that she had owned, including said house. After the grey note arrived, the sky got locked in a permanent night, and he lost an arm due to finding out about its darkness the hard way. When Elektro arrived, he warned him about it.
Tell me what you think please!
