Hi again Booky, long time no see.

Signups are indeed open, but one slot is a pending reservation. I'd be willing and eager to see what you have, but after that, I may have to close signups again.

So, Booky... any ideas on who you're going to sign up as, should you decide to rejoin?

I usually pull from comic books or graphic novels since that’s what I know best. And obviously someone like Iron Man wouldn’t work in the setting very well. Any general suggestions?

It's funny that you mention Iron Man, because I play as Master Chief from the Halo games here.

There's no definite rule saying you can't, per se, play as Iron Man, it's just that naturally they'd need to be adapted to the setting.

You could easily make Iron Man like a blacksmith who's actually versed in using magical crystals to create magic armour, for example.

Maybe this is impetuous, but I saw sign-ups were still open, and its been a while since I've written on TV Tropes. ....Might've gone overboard with the world-building (feel free to tell me to tone it down). She'd be going into Team A.

  • Name: Lightning Farron
  • Franchise: Final Fantasy (XIII, in particular)
  • Age: Ancient, but looks (and feels) in her early twenties.
  • Race: Ignorant Godling
  • Appearance: "Even if I stand to lose everything, I'll preserve your memory for the tomorrows yet to be."
  • Alignment: Neutral Good
  • Class: Paladin
  • Personality: Seemingly cold and distant, Lightning does, in fact, care deeply about people and the world around her. She can be blunt and sarcastic, annoyingly stubborn and self-destructive, but she does her best to protect the people she deems worth protecting. She can be trapped in the past, bound by the loss of her friends, family, and kingdom, but she also wants to do better. More than anything, Lightning wishes to atone for her failure, and she can and will blame herself for anything and everything that goes wrong in her vicinity. She is duty-bound and introverted, but she's always down to fight.
  • Skills: She's a master swordswoman and fighter, and her strategic nature allows her to switch up her fighting style mid-battle with ease. She can cook and clean and keep herself alive, and is also skilled with projectile weapons when neccessary, making incredible shots.
  • Powers and Abilities: Lightning has access to a vast amount of elemental magic, able to create and control it, specializing in lighting, but capable of also combining different elements to do more damage. She is also capable of healing most wounds and even, with the right spell, bringing someone back from death (she's essentially a Final Fantasy Black and White Mage). She can move fast enough to look like a pink bolt of lightning, and is strong enough to lift vehicles. More than anything else, Lightning is immortal, incapable of aging and really difficult to kill.
    • Spell List:
      • Ruinga: a powerful attack of pure magic.
      • Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga, Aeroga: summons that particular element and hits within a large range.
      • Flare, Chill, Surge, Tornado: a magical attack of a particular element that gets stronger the closer lightning is to death.
      • Flamesparka, Firestorma, Icesparka, Icestorma: combinations of elements that deal both types of damage.
      • Elementaga: a combination of all four elements
      • Magnet: a spell that pulls enemies closer to her and hits them with magic.
      • Ultima: an incredibly powerful spell the deals pure magic damage to anything in range.
      • Poisonga, Imperilga, Slowga, Cursega, Debravega, Deprotectga, Defaithga, Deshellga, Dispelga: a series of spells that damage all enemies on the field and inflicts a debuff/bad status effect on them all.
      • Disaster: hits one enemy with magic damage and curse, debrave, defaith, deprotect, and deshell.
    • Horse: Wherever Lightning goes her horse, Odin, does too. He, like Lightning, does not age and is difficult to kill. He's also very fast and capable of carrying far more than he appears.
    • Goddess's Inheritor: Lightning carries the last vestiges of Etro's power, an ancient goddess of death and rebirth. This allows her some control over souls, particularly the ability to hear the souls of the death and their prayers, as well as guide them to their final rest. This also, at some point in her future, will enable her to take Etro's place as a goddess.
    • Equipment:Overture, a strong blade that, through ancient magitek, is capable of folding into a smaller form and firing smaller blades at a person. It seemingly requires no ammunition, making where these blade come from a mystery. Her shield is Goddess' Grace, gifted to her by the Goddess Etro. It retracts into the armour she wears, and can only be wielded by Lightning, but will block almost any attack.
  • Background:
    • Once, a long, long time ago, two civilizations once stood upon the land of Mu. They were twin civilizations, created by the same gods and nourished by the same lands. For a time, all was peaceful. The people worshiped an ancient pantheon. Bhunivelze, whom they saw as creator and leader of the gods, father to Pulse, Lindzei, and Etro. Pulse created the kingdom of Gran Pulse, Lindzei, the kingdom of Cocoon.
    • But Bhunivelze fell to sleep, and Pulse and Lindzei both claimed the role of creator. The siblings fought, and Etro was cut down in the crossfire, falling into the Unseen Realm, into Death, from which She beheld the the events of the Living Realm.
    • The War of Transgression lasted many years, a war between the sister kingdoms that caused untold bloodshed and pain. Even Pulse and Lindzei themselves fell, felled each other in a battle that scarred the earth and blackened the sky. The war showed no sign of stopping, until Etro Herself took action.
    • She chose a pair from each kingdom. A mighty warrior, and a seeress. The seeress, gifted the ability to see the future, would lead her kingdom to peace and prosperity once more, while the warrior protected the seeress from all harm. For Gran Pulse, it was Paddra Ballad Caius, protector of Paddra Nsu Yeul.
    • For Cocoon it was Serah Farron, and her older sister, sworn protector, Lightning Farron.
    • The kingdoms flourished once more, under new guidance, neither pair aging, to rule their kingdom for eternity.
    • And then calamity struck. The Goddess Etro was struck down by someone unknown, and with her, the kingdoms' protection. Though both Serah and Yeul worked to protect their homes, and Caius and Lightning worked to protect them, it all came to naught with the deaths of the twin seeresses.
    • Cradling her sister's corpse, all Lighting could do was call upon a protective method of old, encasing herself, and what remained of her sister, in impenetrable crystal. Surrounded by the ruins of her home, and the husks of her people, Lightning slept.
    • Until she didn't. When she awoke, Lightning was alone, her sister taken from her. She now wanders the world, protecting who she can, in order to make up for her failure to protect her sister and kingdom.
  • Additional Notes: A lot of Lightning's abilities might need to be nerfed or only used with GM or player discussion beforehand, and I'm aware of this.

Good to see you again after all this time, secret. Signup's looking pretty good, though as you say some checks and balances ought to be put in place for the magic section. Some kind of point system perhaps?

Well, we can iron out those details later. Accepted.

My "interim," "pinch hitter" character while I see whether my groove for Bardock comes back.

  • Name: Dr. Thomas "Tommy" Oliver
  • Franchise: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers / Power Rangers Zeo / Power Rangers Dino Thunder
  • Age: Early 30's
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance:
    • Unmorphed: In his civilian appearance, Tommy is an unassuming man with spiked-up hair and a rather subdued goatee. Typically, he will primarily wear a shirt colored either green, white, red or black. He wears a a silver wristband inlaid with a black gem, a fragment of the meteor that killed the dinosaurs known as a Dino Gem.
    • Green Mighty Morphin Power Ranger: Tommy wears a green suit and dragon-themed helmet, with a gold shield protecting his chest. He also carries an ornate, draconian dagger as his primary weapon.
    • Green Mighty Morphin Power Ranger V2: Similar to the Mighty Morphin' suit, though the helmet now boasts gold accents and a darker shade of green, as well as the addition of a new sword he dual-wields with his dagger.
    • White Mighty Morphin Power Ranger: A white-and-gold suit with a tiger-themed helmet, possessing gold-colored shoulder guards and a curved saber with a talking tiger-head hilt named Saba.
    • Zeo Ranger V - Red: A mostly-red suit accented with gold-colored circuitry and a star-shaped visor.
    • Black Dino Ranger/Brachio Ranger: Tommy dons a black suit with gold diamond-shaped patterns, its helmet shaped like the closing jaws of a dinosaur.
  • Alignment: Lawful Good.
  • Class: Veteran Power Ranger
  • Personality: Subdued and mild-mannered to a fault when going about his daily life, Tommy tries to keep a low profile given his..."extra-curricular" career as a Ranger. When needed, however, the man can display an unexpected level of ferocity and sheer, unbreakable determination. This is a stubborn, good-hearted man who doesn't just jump into danger to help others - he practically dives into it.
  • Skills:
    • Hand-to-hand combat
    • Mech piloting
    • Leadership
    • A doctorate in history, specializing in paleontology
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Invisibility: Tommy's Black Dino Gem grants him the ability to turn his body completely invisible to escape detection.
    • Morphing: Should a fight escalate past the point that regular martial arts won't cut it, Tommy can use one of his several morphers to adopt a Ranger identity, significantly boosting his physical abilities.
  • Equipment:
    • 'Power Morpher: A gold-colored belt buckle inlaid with Tommy's Dragon Power Coin, though Tommy can also switch it out with his White Tiger Power Coin. Tommy can use it to morph by shouting its requisite morphing call, "It's Morphin' Time!" followed by the appropriate animal, either "Dragonzord" or "Tigerzord!"
    • Zeonizier: A pair of wristbands that Tommy can summon at will, containing a shard of the legendary Zeo Crystal. By locking the bands together and shouting "Zeo Ranger V! Red!", Tommy morphs into Zeo Ranger V.
    • Black Dino Morpher: A black wristband summoned from Tommy's Dino Gem, along with a key in his other hand. Simply turning the key in the morpher and yelling "Dino Thunder! Power up!" activates the morpher and transforms him into the Brachio Ranger.
    • Dragon Dagger: The primary weapon of the Green Ranger, it can be used as a melee weapon to slash and stab, as well as played like a flute to fire green bolts of lightning or summon the Dragonzord.
    • Dragon Shield: The gold shield adorning the Green Ranger's suit, Tommy can also grant the shield to any ally to protect them from harm.
    • Dragonzord: A massive beast that takes the form of a metal dragon, playing Tommy's Dragon Dagger as a flute will summon it from a nearby body of water large enough to accomodate the Zord's massive frame. The dragon's tail is tipped with a drill, and its fingers can fire explosive blasts at enemies.
    • Saba: A talking sword wielded by the White Ranger, Saba can provide wisdom as well as fire blasts of energy from his eyes. Oh, and talk to birds.
    • Zeo V Power Sword: A red sword used by Zeo Ranger V, it can fire star-shaped blasts of energy from the hilt.
    • Zeo Laser Pistol: Zeo Ranger V's personal sidearm.
    • Zeo Zord V: A red metallic falcon that Tommy can summon while morphed into Zeo Ranger V.
    • Brachio Staff: The Brachio Ranger's primary weapon, it can summon waves of water, create tornadoes, cause localized earthquakes or launch orbs of flame at targets. As well as just being used to beat the living tar out of people.
    • Brachiozord: Tommy's carrier Zord as the Brachio Ranger, it is massive enough to carry other Zord-sized vehicles and protect them within its body until they need to be deployed.
  • Background: TBA

  • Name: Nia and Pyra
  • Franchise: Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Age: Both appear to be early twenties, with Pyra looking older
  • Race: Gormotti (Nia) / Aegis Blade (Pyra)
  • Appearance: Nia's at 4'8'', Pyra's at 5'2''
  • Alignment: Neutral Good (Pyra) / Chaotic Good (Nia)
  • Class: Driver-Aegis Team
  • Personality: Sarcastic, cynical, temperamental, foul-mouthed, instinctive, and headstrong, Nia is not exactly the friendly sort. However, she does have a sense of compassion and is willing to help out if need be. Nia can act rather childish and does follow her instincts more often than not, but she is rather experienced when it comes to combat and surviving off the land. Pyra is sweet, demure, caring, and level-headed, almost to a fault, but she's by no means a push-over. Pyra is not afraid to fight to protect both the people she wishes to defend and those she cares about. Pyra acts as the more mature of the two and is more likely to strategize than her partner. Deep inside, both of them carry a fear of themselves and trauma from their past, even if neither is aware of the other's issues. Though, Nia covers hers up with snark and Pyra covers hers with kindness.
  • Skills:
    • Swordsmanship (Both): Both of them are capable of using the sword, but chiefly, Nia's the one fighting with Pyra supporting her.
    • Survivalism (Nia): After spending some time all on her lonesome, she had to learn how to live off the land.
    • Hand-To-Hand (Nia): Although she's no master martial artist, she did learn how to put up a scrap in case she cannot get her weapon.
    • First Aid (Nia): Surprisingly enough, Nia is rather knowledgeable about how to fix up injuries.
    • Cooking (Pyra): Pyra is noted to be a talented cook and takes great joy in it.
    • Focusing (Pyra): She has a strong sense of focusing her powers, which is handy to prevent collateral damage. She could also use it to focus on a single task if need be.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Gormotti Physiology (Nia): Gormotti are mostly human asides from the cat-like ears on the top of their heads, giving them hearing like a cat.
    • Bound by Lifeforce (Both): The two can sense each other through the connected life force they share, with the sense being stronger the closer they are. However, said connection has a drawback in that they share injuries in the sense that if one is damaged, the other is as well. In addition, if one perishes, the other goes with them.
    • Magic Thread (Both): Pyra transfers a thread of magic to Nia, bolstering her physical capabilities past a peak human's. She's able to lift objects three times her size, withstand and deal blows that can break through a few feet of stone, run as fast and jump as high as a horse.
    • Aegis Blade (Pyra): They are much stronger than the average Blade in the sense that their powers are on another level. However, due to them sharing their life force with Nia, anything that might injure or maim her will affect them as well.
    • Fire Magic (Pyra): Pyra's fire magic is strong enough to resist water-based attacks and can melt through steel within 5 seconds. Her effective range is generally 30 feet.
  • Equipment:
    • Aegis Sword: A large, metallic sword that is nearly as long as Nia is tall. Mainly, Nia is holding the sword and can utilize special moves called Battle Arts to give her an edge. If Pyra is handed the weapon, she can use it to perform powerful moves, though only in short bursts. If the sword is broken or lost, they can reconstruct the sword after a few seconds.
    • Knives: Three knives are at Nia's hip for any situation that the sword would be overkill for or in case she cannot use the sword. Also helpful for cutting things like cloth, leather, ropes, and more.
  • Background:
    • 500 years ago, there was an island nation of Torna within the Alrestian Archipelago, known as the Golden Country, where a scion named Addam Origo first awakened one of the legendary Blades known as an Aegis. Out from the emerald Core Crystal came a young lady named Mythra, who wielded the power of light with such power, speed, and precision, that almost no other Blade could compare. However, the girl was inexperienced, arrogant, and often careless, so Addam had to temper this attitude to prepare for an inevitable conflict between another like her; a man wielding the power of darkness and destruction named Malos threatened to destroy the world. The two of them gathered a fighting force to combat Malos. A battle of epic proportions ensued, but in the process the islands of Torna and Indol have been utterly annihilated with many lives claimed by both of the Blades' weapons and their constructs. The battle ended with Mythra the victor, but with both her home destroyed and her newly made friends killed in the crossfire, she could not cope with this mass devastation. Thus, she created Pyra both to seal off her power and to create someone to help carry her guilt.
    • Flash forward to around 20 years before present day in the country of Gormott, a young Gormotti girl lived in an estate belonging a wealthy and powerful family. Of her family, she had only her father, her younger sister, and his loyal Blade. Life was good until the sister took on an illness that seemed to be incurable. The father was desperate to save her, willing to sacrifice his power and wealth if it meant saving her. He took a boat to a faraway land with his Blade until the boat was reported to be destroyed out on the sea. Soon after, her sister died, leaving her alone to fend for herself in the wilderness and the streets.
    • Their paths would cross on a cool night where Nia happened upon a sarcophagus that bore the markings of the former country of Torna and within it, the unconscious body of the Aegis. Unfortunately, she was ambushed and murdered by a group of bandits looking for the Aegis themselves. She later finds herself in a dream of the promised land of Elysium with Pyra. Here, they formed a pact with each other: Nia would take her to Elysium and Pyra would protect her. Afterwards, the Aegis gives up half of her life force to revive Nia and they fought off the bandits. Now they wander the world to find this mystical land, depending on each other with their lives, literally.
  • Additional Notes:
    • Nia holds a dark secret that she keeps from everyone, even from her partner. Needless to say, she would never willingly reveal it except towards those she holds absolute trust in.
    • Mythra is currently sealed and will not be released until at a later point.

Well, if signups are still open, I might as well throw my hat into the ring just for the hell of it. Here goes nothing...

Name: Ogrim, A.K.A "Dung Defender"

Franchise: Hollow Knight

Age: At least 35 but possibly much older

Race: Dung Beetle

Appearance: Just look at this man!

Alignment: Lawful Good

Class: Fighter

Personality: Ogrim is a jolly, friendly individual who always assumes the best of everyone he meets and takes great pleasure in fighting as long as no-one's in lethal peril, always up a friendly spar. He attempts to make friends with anyone and everyone he can, although this can be quite difficult due to the pungent stench of dung that constantly surrounds him. He hates seeing anyone in distress, and will do everything in his power to aid anyone in need, even if it comes at considerable detriment to himself. However, hidden beneath his happy, chuckling exterior is considerable amounts of sadness, grief and trauma, as he's seen a lot of folks he had quite strong bonds with perish, and is still struggling to come to terms with it. All in all though, he always puts others above himself, and will only stop to mourn when there's no-one else for him to help out, fight, wrestle and/or have a friendly conversation with.

Skills:

  • Hand-to-Hand: Ogrim does not usually fight with a weapon, instead striking his foe with his powerful claw-hands.
  • Throwing: Ogrim is capable of throwing any fairly light-weight object he can fit in his his claw-hands with considerable strength and accuracy.
  • Survivalism: Ogrim can survive in some pretty inhospitable environments without too much trouble.

Powers and Abilities:

  • Immunity to Disease: Due to some strange quirk of his physiology, Ogrim is almost completely immune to all sorts of otherwise quite deadly diseases, and can interact with substances that spread disease with little to no harmful effects to himself.
  • Abnormal Durability: Ogrim is much more durable than the average person, capable of surviving attacks that would otherwise be lethal and still being capable of getting back up to keep fighting. However, his durability does have limits, and a strong enough hit or enough normal hits can still put him in critical condition.

Equipment:

  • Shell Armor: Ogrim wears pretty durable armor at practically all times, and while it's certainly seen better days, now very rusted and dirty, it can still protect him from some pretty strong hits and is part of what contributes to his exceptional durability.
  • Defender's Crest: Ogrim possesses a small enchanted pin that he can attach to his chest called the Defender's Crest, which, when equipped, intensifies the already quite pungent smell of dung that surrounds him to the point where it is capable of knocking some foes unconscious if they are exposed to it long enough.

Background: Some time ago, Ogrim was one of five legendary knights who protected a far off kingdom known as Hallownest. This kingdom was quite prosperous, ruled by a legendary being known as the Pale King who was revered as a god. Along with his fellow knights Isma, Dryya, Ze'mer and Hegemol, Ogrim protected the kingdom and its god-king from any threats, and peace and prosperity reigned. Due to the stench which surrounded him at all times, some nicknamed Ogrim the "Dung Defender", but he found the title quite charming and has since taken to calling himself that, as he believes it fits him. However, one day, everything changed. A devastating plague called The Infection struck the kingdom, killing anyone exposed to it and re-animating them as a hostile husk of their former self that only knew the desire to spread the plague. Despite their best efforts, all of Ogrim's allies eventually fell to those corrupted by The Infection, and out of desperation, Ogrim left the kingdom for lands beyond, hoping to find a cure that could restore peace to Hallownest...

I've also made a species profile for Beetles.

Name: Beetles

Territories: Beetles are an extremely common species in a distant, far off kingdom known as Hallownest, inhabiting many places in that land, but extremely rare elsewhere.

Biology: There are many different sub-species of beetles, and depending on the species their size can be anywhere from half the height of an average human to somewhere around 6 feet. Most species possess at least 1 prominent horn atop their head, 2 on average. The weaker ones are a bit less strong and durable than a human but the stronger ones are considerably more powerful, able to easily surpass a human in a contest of strength.

Culture: Due to their large amounts of diversity, beetles possess many different cultures depending on their species, but some factors persist across many of these cultures. They are very religious, believing that they should be completely subservient to certain powerful entities known as "Higher Beings" who they believe are a species which the Pale King of Hallownest belongs to, and tend to value loyalty very highly.

Short History: It is documented by all known sub-species of beetles that they were originally feral, wild, monstrous animals, before being given the gift of sapience by the Pale King of Hallownest, and have since been eternally loyal to him.

Name: Shrine Maiden or Miko

Appearance: Here is Miko, a golden-haired fox-eared woman wearing a kimono with a giant bell over her chest and two huge golden tails. She also wears a monocle.

Alignment: Lawful Good

Class: Berserker

Personality: Miko is is older Werebeast that is intelligent and confident enough to unite the warring Werebeast tribes of the Eastern Isles. She is good at getting a feeling for a situation and acting accordingly. But what most might not know from the outside is that she is the introverted type that finds this activity takes real effort when its not among her close friends and prefers solitude to rest and gather herself. When she develops bonds and friendship with others, she is a loyal and dependable friend that will do whatever is necessary to help.

Skills:

  • Connections - While Miko is exiled, she still has those loyal to her and an information network she can rely on though Atlantis is sparsely populated with those she knows.

  • Magic Device Use - The more recent magical tool surge in the Eastern Union was thanks to Miko's push for a higher standard of life for her people. As part of that, Miko also developed a level of knowledge and skill in the activation and use of magical devices despite not in command of magic herself. She could activate blood destruction to emulate a magic pulse though this comes with consequences.

  • Martial Arts - Early life was hard for Miko as it was for all of her kin at the time warring with each other and necessitated an extensive training regime in various marital arts styles. Though capable in swords, spears, guns, bows, and others, she prefers unarmed combat especially as few weapons could withstand her strength at her full power.

  • Multi-tasking - Having had a voice asking questions since she was young, Miko is skilled at thinking about multiple tasks at once, one of which is usually a goddess whispering questions into her mind.

Powers and Abilities:

  • No True Name - Though she will not go into details as to how or why, Miko does not have a True Name and had sacrificed it to establish the Werebeasts as a united country. The consequences of not having a True Name is something only the most knowledgeable wizards would know but it is a pitiable thing. She is incapable of referring to herself by any name, and instead refers to herself by one of her titles, which is Shrine Maiden or Miko.

  • Werebeast - As a member of the Werebeasts that descend from animals (as opposed to those from Demons), Miko is blessed with great strength and agility that surpasses the average humanoid. She also has extremely keen senses and can hear the heartbeat of those in the same room which helps her reading other people and if they are lying like a polygraph, though this is less useful than it sounds. Due to having a high concentration of spirits within her even though Werebeasts don't have magical pathways needed to give control of magic, she can also sense active magic auras and the activation of spells in her proximity.
    • Werebeasts are made of different stuff, making Miko far heavier than she appears and too dense to swim without Blood Destruction.

  • Blood Destruction - A rare bloodline trait that doesn't always show even from those descended from others with it. Miko is capable of pushing her circulatory system to its absolute limits, activating her latent magic and giving her a massive boost in strength and agility. However, this state comes with a huge toll as she starts to bleed profusely from her entire body. The longer she keeps it activated the more blood loss so the more fatigue she feels after, risking death if she holds it for more than a few minutes.

  • Vessel of Doubt - Miko hosts a goddess within her, Houlou the Goddess of Doubt. She is in constant contact with the goddess through her mind, and Houlou can read her mind and senses even when she is not awake. The goddess, full of questions, may wake Miko if something unusual is happening around Miko that her keen senses can detect, but more to ask questions about it than out of concern for Miko herself. To speak through Miko directly, Houlou can take over with a whole bunch of magical fireworks as a god manifesting in the physical world does.

Equipment:

  • Nothing of note, carries standard supplies as a traveler.

Background: From a young age, Miko has been fighting for supremacy in the warring tribes of the Werebeasts like everyone else on the Eastern Isles. But she had gotten fed up with parting with dear friends and the tragedy and loss, and saw the possibility of a brighter future. She pushed, sacrificed her true name, made the right connections and alliances, and with the help and example of Toto Bunny established peace among the tribes and making herself leader. Nobody could have imagined that not only did the Werebeasts make peace, but they also allied with their demonic counterparts.

Not merely satisfied with peace, Miko maneuvered and sought for a better standard of life for all. However, her work was cut short some years ago, with the destruction of Toto Bunny. With one of her political allies destroyed, her enemies pounced and blamed her, managing to get her exiled from the country she helped to established.

During the years of chaos when she was a child, Miko had come across unknown goddess, Houlou the Goddess of Doubt in her vessel at the time that was a giant Inkpot. The two chatted repeatedly day to day until eventually she established herself as Houlou's physical vessel in the world and to answer all of her questions including most importantly the question 'Do I Exist?' Now exiled from her homeland, Miko had struck out into the world to find something that might show the goddess the answers she seeks. Her feelings towards Houlou could be best described as having developed into the maternal, seeing Houlou as more like an immature child than anything and wishing to help her develop into a full person.

Name: Houlou

Age: Nearly as old as the material plane.

Race: Deity

Appearance: None at the moment. But were she to manifest it would likely be a young lady in old traditional werebeast dancer attire, and/or as an inkpot.

Alignment True Neutral

Class: Deity

Personality: Houlou is a bundle of questions, doubting anything and everything including the intentions and motives of others and even existence itself. This doubt makes it hard for her to commit to doing anything as she doubts if it will work or not. Her bond with Miko causes her to go to Miko when she cannot figure something out, which is all the time. However, as a Goddess nearly as old as the material plane, she is not particularly concerned with protecting the physical well-being of fragile creatures including Miko, seeing their mortality as an inevitability.

Skills:

  • None

Powers and Abilities

  • Deity - As a goddess that embodies a concept, Houlou's power relies on belief in her being and belief in her concept. As doubt is such a pervasive state in thinking beings, she contains immense power should she ever exercise it.

Equipment

  • Inkpot - If Houlou is not using Miko as a vessel, she uses a giant fancy looking Inkpot.

Background: Houlou, the Goddess of Doubt, is the oldest thinking thing native to the material plane. Born into an empty world, she spent ages alone with questions but no answers to what the world really is. She created a golem race called Ex-Machina, but all they could do was give her the empty observations she could already make and did nothing to soothe her loneliness. To see more for herself, she restricted her divine body into a physical vessel, an inkpot, and had Ex-Machina move her about. When intelligent beings did start to appear, a couple bad interactions caused her to hide from them for the most part. Frustrated with how that had turned out, she also told the Ex-Machina to go away, which they did. Other gods and goddesses ignored her as she rarely interfered with the designs of others and as the Material plane is her native domain unlike most gods, Houlou would be difficult to fight there.

Eventually one day, a young werebeast came across her physical vessel just as Houlou was contemplating ceasing to exist, if she could figure out that she existed in the first place. She answered all of Houlou's questions and promised to answer every question she ever came up with, so Houlou attached herself to the girl. She did indeed, answer every question Houlou could ask and continues to do so, though her answers have not yet settled the ultimate question of existence yet though Houlou hopes it might eventually.

Name: Werebeasts

Territories: Eastern Isles

Biology: Werebeasts are a variety of humanoids with animal features, usually ears, tails, and claws. They are typically far stronger, more agile, and have keener sense than other humanoids, but have no affinity at all for magic use though the spirits to use magic are found in abundance inside them. A rare few have the bloodline trait Blood Destruction and can tap into incredible potentials at extreme cost.

Culture: Werebeasts have recently civilized 60 years ago, rapidly turning their warrior traditions into sports, creature comforts, and the latest in magical tool technology. However, they are distrusting of most other races and even more so since the destruction of Toto Bunny, keeping their magical tools mostly a secret from the world.

Short History: Werebeasts in the Eastern Isles have a long history of civil wars among eachother. Their threat however, was always contained to the islands as they do poorly at sea and traditionally were too busy with in-fighting to develop a strong navy. Recently however, they have civilized and do limited trading with other nearby countries.

Name: Ex-Machina

Territories: None

Biology: Ex-Machina are golems made of unknown metals that imitate a humanoid appearance but are tougher than the strongest magical metals known to date. They have powerful magical manipulation and use the magical spirits in the environment as a power source. They are not known to have souls, and act only in accordance to the orders etched into them by their creator. Their observational powers and collective knowledge has allowed them to copy, re-create, and refine magical spells to fulfill their goal.

Culture: Ex-Machina have a hive-mind collective and each individual is a just a piece given specific functions in a hierarchical structure of command. They do not interact with the world unless threatened, and respond with deadly, overwhelming force.

Short History: Ex-Machina were created and tasked with observation of the world to then report to their creator what they found. As their last order from their creator was to leave her alone, this only left with them going around the world to look at it and compile information. They are currently stationary, observing a particular ecosystem, but any culture that has had contact with them knows better than to interfere with whatever they are doing, and to answer any questions they might present. Due to the extreme time since their creator told them to go away, or possibly to prevent defective Ex-Machina from looking for her, the Ex-Machina do not remember who their creator is.
