That choice of Gender Flip...not really a shock.
I am surprised by it though. Who's idea do you think it was?
One Strip! One Strip!Well, the Latin American Dub trailer recieve a mixed bag reaction to the Latin American fans of the franchise due to it's radical changes from the Manga/Anime.
The New Voice of Pegasus Seiya in the dub recieved a Tough Act to Follow / Can't Un-Hear It reaction.

I'm thinking this might also receive mixed reception even from ones not familiar with the source material.
How different is this looking from the source material?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."No more different than this:
...how did they even get the rights to use that song anyway?
One Strip! One Strip! Most of the overreaction is due to the voice of Seiya being voiced by different Voice Actor since the previous voice actor Jesús Barrero passed away and definetly the Latin Dub are not the original latin dub in the anime reprising their roles.

Technically passable but character-less CG, gender-flip for the sake of representation... Yeah, this is aimed at the cartoon audience, not otaku
Oh God the 90’s truly was an experiance.
That’s my main issue. The characters look rather bland & sterile.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Somehow, I don't think we're going to see the Phoenix Knight force a guy to envision his internal organs exploding from his body in this version.
Also, don't female knights wear masks?

It's so weird to see Saint Seiya dubbed in english after all this time.
Damnit, I was expecting a thread for that all female cast Saint Seiya show that's coming out this month. Apparently that one is a Prime exclusive though I could have sworn Wikipedia listed it as a Netflix show at some point.
I haven't been able to get into Saint Seiya but hopefully this'll be a good intro to the franchise when it drops.
EDIT: Apparently the show dropping this month is on Crunchyroll actually. Don't know why some places list it as a Prime exclusive.

Is that actually a thing?
...cause it sounds like an all female Saint Seiya show would just be Pre Cure.
One Strip! One Strip!Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho is a thing, yes. The anime should be out pretty soon, but looks like ass (...also the male cast kinda takes over after a bit)
I would have liked one of the members to be a girl... just not Shun.
Turning Shun into a girl completely misses the point of Shun. Literally anyone but him would have been a better choice. He puts Starbuck there, you know who could have been better to fit with that comparison? Ikki. Now, THAT would have been something.
He's already being roasted for being homophobic and enforcing Toxic Masculinity..
Considering its Shun that got changed, that doesn't surprise me.
Watch SymphogearIt looks only marginally better than that CG movie a few years ago.
And yeah, turning the effeminate guy into an actual girl is… questionable when you think about it. Like, god forbid we have a male character who's not a big ball of testosterone…
Honestly with this series’ art-style & how the characters generally look, I believe you can switch half the cast into women & nothing would probably change.
I swear when I saw the Gold Saints I thought half of them were women.
Yeeesh that is bad because you expect recent CG to look better than past CG.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Wonder how would it be if Shiryu was the one genderflipped? Losing the shirt at the drop of a hat would be so different then.
Wake me up at your own risk. One of the things about Shun is in making him female they've just recreated a particularly stereotypical version of The Chick, unless they've also gone and updated the character for the times. For instance, this Shun is now guilty of the Never a Self-Made Woman trope. Granted, while some people may not have realized the difference, being male actually made him more unique since you don't often see male characters with that set of traits. It's good that they're trying to get another Action Girl in there, but any of the others would've been a better candidate.
I agree that I would've liked it to be Shiryu. I think his traits would be more interesting to see on a female character, and if it's about the design, he has the long hair for it.

They could also have outright created a new female character, buuut that hasn't always been a good idea *cough*Ninjaturtles*cough*…
...Yeah. I can see where they stumbled here.
They didn't want to demote Marin or Shaina, but I admit, once I get past my knee-jerk and outdated dislike of effeminate pretty boys, making Shun an actual girl is kinda a disservice to him.
Now, this new girl Shun could be a great character (you can create something good out of a bad idea, just as you can do something really poor with a bad idea; it's all about execution), but it was probably still a bad idea. They might have been better off just doing a new group...but that was already covered with Saint Seiya Omega.
Hmmm....
One Strip! One Strip! The thing that sucks too is that for all the flak he gets Shun was actually one of the stronger Saints. During the Sanctuary arc he was really the only one who flat out won against his Gold Saint opponent.
Right. I did hear that Shun is one of the most powerful, and it's only the fact that he's deliberately a pacifist that holds him back.
...I honestly think they made a mistake here.
One Strip! One Strip!Ironic that he tried to spin this as a feminist move because the team needed a girl, but chose the character who most broke gender roles to change. I can't decide what would be worse: change their personality and basically throw out all of what made Shun Shun, or keep it the same and have Shaun now fill every The Chick stereotype.

The legion of new anime on Netflix continues with a remake of the classic manga Saint Seiya, complete with a surprise Gender Flip!
I’m not hating what I see so far. What say the rest of you?
